What will they think of next? It used to be that the faucets for your sink came in two basic styles — hot and cold, with knobs on top to turn them on or off. But ever since the amaz-ingly convenient mixer tap was invented (in 1880, by a Canadian, Thomas Campbell), sinks have never been quite the same. Nowa-days, there are all kinds of newfangled doodads for pouring water into a pot, washing your hands, and brushing your teeth.
If you’re looking to upgrade your kitchen or bathroom, these are some of the faucet finds available.
Single handleAfter the revolu-
tionary single-spout mixer faucet came the single-handle version. Unlike its predecessor, this innovation was met with mixed feelings (pun intended) by sink users — which is just about everyone in the USA.
It can be complicated to move the handle to just the right position and folks sometimes end up getting either frozen or scalded, leading us to the next item on this list …

Why is it impor-tant to have a Florida-friendly
garden? What are some garden changes we might make in order to have our garden be Florida-friendly? As I ponder these questions, I hear the voice in the back of my mind say, “Why would anyone want to be unfriendly to Florida’s lands?” No one has that goal. So let’s look at Florida-friendly garden-ing and its principles. What might make our yard unfriendly?
At the 2015 Master Gardener Tour of Florida-Friendly Landscapes on Saturday, Sept. 19, we can see gardening principles at work. Water is the focus of this tour includ-ing water conservation, water quality issues, and irrigation techniques. The way we use water in our garden has a direct effect upon our springs and drinking water. So as we tube down the Ichetucknee, we need to remember that the quality and amount of water there is connected to when and how much we use our gar-den’s irrigation system.
This tour day starts with the opportunity for registrants to talk with people from a number of organizations about native plants, pollinators, composting, conserva-tion and invasive plants. We can consider how native plants help the landscape; we may want to know how to bring pollinators to our yards; we have the time to
ask why composting is important; we can learn how conservation efforts in the county help our groundwater; or we may think about the problems caused by an invasive plant on our property. Each garden change we perform as a result of our conversations with these experts creates a friendlierlandscape.
Next on the agenda is our speaker, Dr. Claire Lewis, Statewide Florida Yards & Neighborhoods Coordinator, and part of the Florida-Friendly Landscaping Program at UF. She can provide us the research on water usage differences in FFL and other yards, supply-ing pointers for friendly water use. The last part of the day highlights four Florida-Friendly Land-scapes in the Duck Pond area of Gainesville. In these yards, we’ll have time to talk with master gardeners about the details of Florida-friendly gardening. Questions can be asked and reasons will be given for the best management practices of a Florida-friendly garden.

not very helpful. You have a fretwork clock. It was likely made during the late-19th to early-20th century. They typically depicted cathedrals or similar structures. Most were made by hobbyists using a jigsaw to cut the
pieces and then fitted with a manufactured clock movement. In the clock collecting category they are considered novelty clocks and low on the totempole of collector interest. Potential dollar value is below $500.

color when I sorely missed my New England roots. However, this tree was an unfriendly one, invasive, despite my denial. Wendy Wilber, now Statewide Master Gardener Pro-gram Coordinator, and other master gardeners slowly made me realize what that tree was doing to my yard, the wetlands
behind my home, and my neighbors’ landscapes. They provided research to convince me my tree wasn’t friendly to the lands around it. This was not an easy lesson quickly learned. Three years ago, a good friend removed that tree, the most difficult change in my garden, as well as the most beneficial one. My yard and the surround-ing lands are healthier without this tree. What
changes can we all make to be a positive, friendly force on Florida’s lands?

like filling pots — though you still have to solve the problem of getting the whole kit and caboodle to your stove, washing veggies, or bathing an adorable little rescue dog (yes, I do clean my sink out very well afterward).

It’s easy come, easy go for singer Marc Anthony
LOS ANGELES — Marc Anthony has appar-ently changed his tune in Tarzana.
Seven months after buying a New England-inspired Traditional there for $4.125 million, the Grammy-winning artist has listed it for sale at slightly more than he paid — $4.35 million.
The white two-story home Anthony just listed
was built last year and spans 6,590 square feet. Living and dining rooms, two family rooms, a den/offi ce and a study are among the interior spaces. Double ranges, two center islands and granite coun-tertops highlight a lavish kitchen.
A private terrace sits off the master suite, which includes a walk-in closet with glass storage and a claw-foot tub set under a crystal chandelier. There are fi ve bedrooms and 6.5 bathrooms.
Outdoors, grounds of more than half an acre
contain a swimming pool and spa, an expanse of grass and a built-in barbe-cue and bar.
Elsewhere is a motor court and an oversized four-car garage.

When I begin decorat-ing my house for fall, coming up with an inven-tive display for my front door is at the top of my list. Front doors are the place where you wave hello to all the people who pass by your home every day and where you give your guests a glimpse of what's waiting for them inside. If you're itching to get going on your door now, here are the three steps we follow when we design fall doors:
1. Start with an interesting base
Your door display needs an interesting base that will set the theme for the door display and serve as an anchor for the other elements. I have used all sorts of things as the base
for my door displays, from a simple wreath to an oil painting.
For an inspiration door, we started with a wood chopping block as our base. I'm in love with blocks and we've been using them in lots of inventive ways all over the store. My favor-ites so far: chargers on fall tables and trays under fall displays.
Using artwork as a base of a fall door display is lots of fun. A mirror, simple and understated with fall-themed detailing, is a perfect pick. Plus, it's thin enough to fit between the exterior door and a storm door. If you use artwork on your door, make sure it's well secured and made of materials that won't be ruined by rain.
We use mirrors a lot on front doors because they are usually inexpensive,
lightweight and do a bril-liant job of brightening the display.
2. Festoon withfall foliage
We love to use faux foliage on our front door displays. In the fall, nature gives us the most amaz-ing decorating tools, from brilliantly colored leaves to strands of berries to gourds. If you have the real deal, like grasses, vines, nuts or small branches, by all means, use them. We just opt for the fakes because they won't get too crunchy or mushy, and you can easily fluff them into the shape you want.
On one happy door, the foliage and gourds are the main event. The wire basket that serves as the base for the display just melts into the background giving the spotlight to the
arrangement of berries, vines, leaves and gourds. We used a variety of greenery, mixing together different colors and tex-tures and shapes that all share the same fall palette, to keep the display interest-ing but harmonious.
3. Weave in a ribbonWhen I picked out the
front door of my lake cottage, I wanted lots of windows to bring in light since the door is on the north side of our house. But I also wanted a porch over-hang to protect my door from the north wind.
Since I don't have a doorknocker to secure my front door treatments to, I put a little nail at the top of my door to serve as a hanger. Since my entry is covered and protected from the wind, I can just loop a pretty seasonal ribbon or cord around the nail and the display stays put.
Fall ribbons are one of my favorite tricks for adding a splash of the season to
a display in seconds. A quail pattern is one of my favorites right now. The quiet color palette makes it a great pick for any display, whether you're weaving ribbons into foliage on your mantel or topping a lantern with a bow. The round mirror, with its warm gold
luster, is a lovely base for a bouquet of fall flowers bound up in this plucky ribbon.
