Mbekweni Primaryclasses in poor stateTANDY-LEE MARI-NUS
The dilapidatedand poor state ofclassroomshas leftMbekweni Prima-ry school down inthe dumps.
The walls of one ofthe classrooms hascrumbled and hadfallen into that of anadjacent one andholes covered withstones are found onthe floor boards. As a result of this,
the school wasforced to relocate learners to other class-rooms, which are already overcrowded.TheGr 6 class alone consists of three class-es, with a whopping total of 57 learners alltogether.During a recent visit to the school,Paarl
Post was informed of a shortage of deskframes and chairs. Desks are occupied bythree learners at a time with extremelyminimal space to work in.Chairs from other classrooms are used
for learners to sit onaswell as old car seats, brief cases and upright water containers.“We made a request for desks to the De-
partment of Education last year, but still, nothing has come of it,” said Patrick Max-am, an educator at the school. In a school which facilitates 1 180
learners, the poor state of facilities has
caused a ripple effect, with learners refus-ing to attend school, ultimately resultingin a poor attendance rate.“Before the feeding scheme, we had a
high attendance rate. Now attendance isdown,” said Patrick.Patrick also said that this disrupts
learners as regards to the progress of theirwork. He also states that the principal,Michael Njenxa, has contacted the Depart-mentofEducationregardingthecollapsingof the classrooms.According toMillicentMerton,Director-
ate of Communication at theWesternCapeEducation Department, “The affectedclassrooms at Mbekweni Primary Schoolwill be replaced with new units. Tables, chairs and desks are also being deliveredto the school this week.”

SSttaarr SSiiggnnssStar Signs22 December to21 JanuaryCAPRICORN
Your amorous feelings and passions are strong andcompelling at this time, and you tend to be very
demanding of a lover's energy and affection. Tensions mayerupt in close relationships because one of you feels thatyou have been giving more and not receiving enough inreturn, or one of you is more amorous than the other.
21 January To20 FebruaryAQUARIUS
Emotional well-being and contentment characterizethis time period. You feel quite relaxed and
carefree, and this would be a splendid time for avacation. Laziness, self-indulgence, and expectingeverything to work out well with no effort on your
part are negative possibilities now.
20 February to21 MarchPISCES
Your desire for love and affection, as well as beauty andpleasure, is strong now and you act on feelings andcreative impulses more readily than usual. If you arenot happy with some aspect of your personal life, these
issues arise at this time and there may bedisagreements or tension in a close relationship.
21 March to21 AprilARIES
At this time you may feel out of your element or out of sync withyourself or your surroundings. Interference from others requiresadjustment and perhaps sacrifice on your part. What you have tooffer or want to do doesn't mesh well with what seems to be
necessary. While not a full blown crisis, it is a time of strain andtension, which can be somewhat debilitating to your health.
21 April to21 MayTAURUS
This is a time for rejuvenation and awakening new creativityand interests. The old adage that one is never too old to startfresh and learn new things applies to this time period. Now isthe time to consider new leisure activities, projects, interests, orpursuits that you previously have not had time for or not made
a priority in your life.
22 June to23 JulyCANCER
Your mind is serious and you are able to concentrate on workthat requires patience, attention to detail, and precision.
Practical concerns dominate. It is a good time to learn practicalskills, do your taxes, organize your files, and take care ofbusiness. You'll want to avoid light social conversation or
trivialities that distract you from your work.
21 May to22 JuneGEMINI
Your mind is serious and you are able to concentrate on workthat requires patience, attention to detail, and precision.Practical concerns dominate. It is a good time to learn
practical skills, do your taxes, organize your files, and takecare of business. You'll want to avoid light social conversation
or trivialities that distract you from your work.
23 Julie to24 AugustLEO
Withdrawing from emotional social contact is favored now, for evenwhen you are with others you are likely to feel separate and alone.Sadness and disappointments in your personal life are also probablenow. Inadequacies and flaws in your friends or lovers are particularly
bothersome to you now, and you may feel that you have nearlyexhausted your patience for dealing with these problems
24 August to23 SeptemberVIRGO
If there is something that you have always wanted but felt that youcould not afford, then your wait is over. You will buy it now, whetheryou can afford it or not! The urge to splurge is irresistible now, and
your desires for good things can turn into cravings under thisastrological influence. If you are dieting, it is likely that you will
need to ease up a little.
23 September to23 OctoberLIBRA
You have a lot of mental energy and are eager to "attack"intellectual or conceptual problems. You are likely to come
up with a clever solution or a very workable plan, especially if you brainstorm with others. You also tend tomake up your mind very quickly and decisively now and to
translate your ideas into action.
23 October to23 NovemberSCORPIO
You are feeling warm, expressive, and lively.Loving feelings flow between you and the peopleyou meet, especially those of the opposite sex.Friendships are also strengthened at this time.
Also, your creativity and desire to make somethingbeautiful is stimulated now.
23 November to22 DecemberSAGITTARIUS
You are willfully resistant to any outside pressure, manipulation, orauthority at this time. A fateful encounter with an adversary, onethat can neither be avoided nor ignored, is indicated. You seesawbetween taking forthright, direct action and using more covert, subtle methods. A desire to break down, destroy, or overthrow
existing conditions is also a part of the picture.

You the Entrepreneur: Plan BDAVID MALHERBE
When you fail to plan, you plan to fail.
In Luke 14, Jesus said: “Forwhich of you intending to build atower, does not sit down first andcount the cost, whether he hasenough to finish it lest, after he haslaid the foundation and is not ableto finish, all who see it begin tomockhim, saying, ‘Thismanbegantobuildandwasnotable to finish.’”Sometimes you have a plan of
what you would like to do andachieve with your business. But then things just donotworkout theway
you planned and you end up in a situation, like the one mentioned above and you needto deal with it.Remember: a smooth sea never made a
skilled sailor.Therefore, it iswise tohaveaplanB.Weneed
to have a plan of action for those unplannedcrisis situations. There are someways to steer your
business through thosewhite watertimes.
) Seize the opportunitySee thedifficult situationasanop-
portunity for change, an opportuni-ty to be creative. Do not ignore thecrisis in the hope that it will disap-pear. It is unavoidable to have a cri-sis from time to time, but seize it asan opportunity.
) Act swiftlyWhen something does not go according to
plan, the sooner you act the less damage iscaused. If youwait too long it can destroy yourbusiness or its reputation.
) Collective wisdom
When an unplanned event threatens yourbusiness, donotwithdrawyourselfandthinkyou are the only one who can solve it.Discuss it with people working in your or-
ganisation, for there is safety in a multitudeof counsellors, according to Proverbs 15:22.
) Be willing to sacrifice firstBeforeyoucanexpectothers tomakesacri-
fices during difficult times, you as the leadermust be willing to do so first. Everybody islooking for guidance and at what the leaderwill do.Leadership is not determined by how you
lead when everything goes well, it is deter-mined when you hit the rough patches. Therefore plan B is vitally important.David Malherbe is a business and career

Ivanhoe besigheidsentrumsteeds ’n bedrywige miernesDie Ivanhoe Park, beter bekend as DieStoepe se winkelsentrum, staan al se-dert 1968 in Klein Drakensteinweg.

gruis gevul was.
