Minimise the likelihood ofit happening to youDue to theft and theft from mo-tor vehicles, the police wouldlike to warn motorists to be ex-tra careful when it comes toleaving items in their vehicles.

Here are some useful tips:) Travel with locked doors and

closed windows while driving, es-pecially throughbuilt up or dense-ly populated areas.Thieves steal handbags and val-

uables by opening car doors oreven breaking windows while thevehicle is stationary at trafficlightsorstuckinslow-movingtraf-fic.

) Never open the window com-pletely when approached by astranger.

) If your vehicle is parked out-side, lock the steering wheel with

an immobiliser, such as a steeringor gear lever lock.

) Thieves target car parks. While utilising a public carpark, make sure it is wellsupervised, with re-stricted entry and ex-it points.Avoid dark and

isolated areas.) Park the vehi-

cle in a well-lit areaat night. When park-ing, put the aerialdown to prevent it frombeing vandalised.

) Remove all valuableswhile the car is unattended. Put itin the boot. A thiefmay not realizethat the jacket on the back seat isworthless and may well break into search the pockets for anything

of worth. The cost of replacing a broken

window often exceeds the value ofgoods stolen.

) Keep all keys onyour body - try andhave one car keyon its own sepa-rate ring.

) Do not keepany formof iden-tificationinyourvehicle that re-lates to your fami-

ly or home, ratherkeep such items on

your body.) Always remove radio’s, CD or

cassette players if possible.) Never leave children alone in

a vehicle, not even for a moment.Make them accompany you.

You the Entrepreneur: Want tobe wealthy?DAVID MALHERBE

Many people enquire about whatthey should do to become wealthy.Myquestion in return iswhetheryouknowwheremoneycomes from?Thismay sound like a stupid question, butI believe that only entrepreneurs re-ally know where money comes from.If youneed to generate business for

yourself to be able to earn a living, you know. When you work for a sala-ry, usually you do not take the punchof generating the income. You maycontribute to the company’s effort togenerate income, but if the responsi-bility to sustain and grow the compa-ny is not yours, you do not reallyknow where the money comes from.Entrepreneurswho take the step to

venture out on their own, will soondiscover what hard work it is to per-suade customers to support yourbusiness. Now the end of the month becomes

the time that you need money to paysalaries, not receive it. Public holi-days become a problembecause one such daymeans5%less time in themonth to earn income, yet you still need to paythe same salaries. Now you won’t even

consider joining a strikefor whatsoever reason, because if you do notwork, you do not earn.Sick leave is somethingyou really can’t afford totake.Do youwant to become

wealthy? Wealthy people mostly liveaccording to the maxim describedabove.Beingwealthycomeswithsac-rifice. To be an entrepreneur is an ad-venturous journey, but a good busi-ness and wealth does not fall intoyour lap. You need to roll up yoursleeves and work for it.

To grow the South African econo-my, the best thing for every one of

us to do, is to think andwork like entrepreneurs. It is a luxury to think thatsomebody else shouldtake care of me.If every one of uswould

say “What can I contrib-ute?” instead of “Whatcan I receive?” we can allbenefit from the growththat we will generate. Are you willing to

adopt the entrepreneuri-al mindset that knowswheremoneycomes from

and help build the South Africaneconomy?I trust that you will.David Malherbe and Dewald
