Harada THEME: HUMAN BODY

Last week the children had fun learning about famous Sculptors and Painters.

This week children will be exploring about the human body. They will learn

how the respiratory system works, what is the function of the digestive

system, and how the skeletal muscular system provides support the body.

The children will make a respiratory experiment, a paper Mache heart, and do a blood experiment with

marshmallows and food coloring.

For dictation and illustration project we have the books: “The ABC"S of Asthma”, “The Magic School Bus”,

and “Your Body From Head to Toe.” Children will play Human Body fact sheet games. Friday we will have

Toy day, they will bring their favorite toy to play with their friends.

City Park Greetings from City Park. Last week Ms. Bousha’s class continued their exploration

of trees. They made collages out of leaves from the trees in our playground. They

also decorated their own leaves. This week, Ms. Bousha’s class will be looking at

the characteristics of the trees in our community. They will be pretending to be a

tree and move in the wind.

Ms. Marisa and Ms. Maria’s class talked about friendship. Some of the children made cards for their

friends. This week we will be exploring the sounds that we hear at school. They will be making shaker

bottles, doing a cooking project to learn how to make pizza.

This Thursday, October 15, 2015 at 10:00, we will be participating in the Great America

Shake Out. This is a statewide earthquake drill. Parents remember to turn in your

emergency packets.

PART TIME PRESCHOOL - Last week our building theme and as a class, we

talked about what we would like to learn. This week, we will be learning

about buildings in our neighborhood and around the world. Each day we will

focus on a different building and children will create their own building art.

We will also be using different types of blocks and will learn how to make

Theme: Respecting, caring, sharing, manners, taking turns, trusting,

following safety rules.

Kindergarten: students will discuss numerical patterns and to describe what

will come next. Such as 1-2-1-2-1. They will also make patterns of their own.

2nd grade: students will work on graphing numbers and spelling or writing out the number. Such as 10

-ten. 3rd grade: students will also write number. Such as 20-twethy and multiply by 2, 3, and 4’s.

4th grade: students will discuss odds and even number and division problems. Odd numbers,

1,3,25,39 and so on. 5th grade: will discuss fractions, dividing, decimals and multiplying .

We will also discuss red ribbon week and discuss our The Great Shake Out October 15, 2015.

Home work, counting, writing first/last names

observational drawings of our creations and of the buildings that we see around our city. Next week, we

will investigate what materials are used in the construction of buildings and what tools and materials

they use. Children will plan and then create a building sculpture with clay and other constructions mate-

rials as we learn about architects and construction workers.

FULL TIME PRESCHOOL - This week we will be finishing the letters of the week, colors, and numbers.

We will be discussing the things we know about buildings and what we want to find out. This upcoming

week we will be discussing what do the buildings in our neighborhood and in other places look like. Chil-

dren will also be learning about the letters E, H and I, the color yellow, and number 7. Children will have

the chance to bring a toy on Friday and share with their friends.

SCHOOL AGE – This week in school age we are focusing on forest and mountain mythical dwellers, such

as Bigfoot and Fairies. We will research these creatures, what are, where they originated, where their

attributes and why they are so popular. We will also be discussing our favorite book for the holiday and

graphing the numbers. We will be making recycled big foot art and glitter-styled fairy masks.

Teen Center

We also offer Zumba Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday from 10-11 am and 6-7 pm. The

classes are $3.00 dollars. From week to week the Zumba classes range from classic Latin salsa to today’s modern pop music. We have large and smaller classes to fit your need as well as

multiple classes throughout the week. It is a wonderful way to unwind and relax after a long day

as well as dancing your way into a better lifestyle. ZUMBA PARTY: FIRDYA OCTOBER 16th!

Here at the YMCA Teen Center we also offer Senior Classes $5.00 Dollars the class. We have

Core Workout with Pilates and yoga on Thursdays from 9:30 – 10:30 am. There is also cardio fitness on Mondays from 11-12 noon. We would like to invite all seniors in our community to our

classes. This class is perfect for anyone who is just starting off or to those who’ve been doing this

for a while.

The Home Gardens Public Library is proud to serve the community with the following free and

educational programs! Our toddler story time, commonly known as “Wiggles and Giggles” is a fun bi-weekly event (Wednesday & Fridays) for infants and school aged children. Bilingual story time,

“Aventura’s de Lecture” takes place ever Wednesday afternoon at 4 pm and children are introduced to the world of literacy and culture, with arts and crafts that follow. All community

teens (ages 10 and up) are invited to form part of Anime Club, every Tuesday at 4:00pm!

Homework help Monday- Friday from 2:00-6:00pm

Tutoring Tuesday’s and Wednesday’s from 3:30-4:30 pm

We are ready for fall at the Teen Center. Last week the Teens had a

really nice week making really fun activities like plastic spoon wall mirror decorations and water color paintings, fall paper bag trees and much more. This week the Teens will have fun making crafts and ac-

tivities like foil art, pumpkins, paper Mache masks and many fall fun creative art activities. To end our fun week we will be playing some

fun board games like Uno Apples to Apples Monopoly and will end our week with a Fun Movie and popcorn.

P A G E 4 Citrus Circle Greetings from Citrus Circle! Last Friday the children made ice cream and we

had team jersey day where the children were able to wear their favorite team’s jersey! Ms. Alma really likes sports so she wanted to kids to show off

their team spirit! On Thursday the children will participate in The Great California Shakeout at their schools, we will also be having an earthquake drill at our center after school. Ms. Alma and Ms. Yesenia will be hosting a

Meet and Greet with the parents of the children. It will be Wednesday October 14 at 5:30pm! Parents please continue to check your children’s homework before they turn it into

their teachers to make sure it is all done.

Jurupa Toddlers - This week our toddlers will be engaging in a theme

about feelings. We will be doing activities that will help aid children in identifying feelings and proper ways to handle them. Some of the

things we have planned include a feelings board with felt emotion cutouts, sensory bags that children will be able to use to describe

what they feel or how they feel when touching the items, as well as songs such as “When you’re

up/down” and “If you’re happy and you know it clap you’re hands.”

Preschool 1 - This week we will be introducing the Study of Balls. During circle time and class time, we will be talking about different kinds and sizes of balls. For art, we will paint with balls and create our own with newspaper, glue, scissors, and balloons. For science, we will explore

what balls sink and which ones float. For fine motor skills, we will practice writing capital and lower-case Bb, cut our pictures of balls, and sort small balls into groups. We will read Have a

Ball and The Little Red Hen. Preschool 2 - This week we will be talking about colors. Children will be mixing the colors blue,

red, and yellow to create new colors. They will be using paint, water color, food coloring, and play dough when mixing.

Preschool 3 - This week we will be working on the very hungry caterpillar we will expire the stages in which a caterpillar becomes into a beautiful butterfly

Merrill Last week at Merrill we explored what do our bodies need in order to

move and exercise? The children discussed healthy food choices.

One class made orange juice out of oranges.

This week we will investigate what jobs are related to exercise? The

children will discuss how we can exercise with the different sports.

The children have been enjoying the dance classes with CAT and having Mr. Z come to the

school and read to them.
