Did you know that the Corona-Norco Family YMCA is helping children and families

weather the economic storm? Every day we work side-by-side with our neighbors to make sure that everyone, regardless of age, income or background, has the opportunity

to learn, grow and thrive. The Y now operates eight program sites with a continuum of care for children in the Corona-Norco and Jurupa Valley Unified School Districts ages 18

months to high school. We are always looking for support from our community. If you would like more information of how you can help, please contact Lorena Gomez (951)

736-1415 or [email protected] The Corona-Norco Family YMCA is a 501(c) (3) charitable organization classified by the Internal Revenue Service.

P A G E 4

Here at the Home Gardens teen Center we had a really fun week last

week we had the (CAT) Christian Arts and Theater Ambassadors. It was

really nice having them here to perform for us. We made them a welcome

banner and had the Teens sign and write a thank you note for them and we

gave it to them. We also had a fun week doing many crafts and activities

like flowers from tissue paper, and play dough, and made slime, we also

played many games and board games with the teens. Next week we are

having a fun week by some other different exciting crafts with them like

water color paintings, paper mache and sea shells crafts and tie dye towels

and much more to end our fun week we will be having a great time playing

outside activities and sports. FUN, FUN, FUN…. Some of our Teens are

participating in our library Event Home Gardens got Talent. Yahoooo go

Citrus Circle We finished painting our volcanoes and they looked great!

We ended up making more then one volcano. Then

the time came to see if they would erupt. The baking

power was already in the volcano and then we added the

dish soap and the vinegar. Pesto! It erupts and made a fun

mess. It was awesome!!

Citrus Circle has a visitor for the summer Zoey (Merrill's

pet hamster) Zoey will be visiting during the summer

month until the children at Merrill come back in

September. Zoey seems to be enjoying her

new surroundings and the children at Citrus Circle loved it.

I am sure Zoey will get spoiled during her

summer vacation at Citrus Circle.

This next week at Citrus Circle we will be exploring life in

Hawaii. We will be making grass skirt out of butcher paper,

leis out of beads, straws and cut out flowers, and

researching the life styles in Hawaii. We are also going to

have a Luau party on Thursday.

Teens! The Talent show will take place at our Home Gardens Library July 30th. Come and enjoy the

show!! And support our Home Gardens Participants! Come and support our YMCA Teen Center we

will be selling yummy, Fresh, and delicious Popcorn along with sweet Tasty Churros!!!! All this

week.

on animals of the sea with Sharks and Whales. We will be learning about their differences, their

environments, and survival ways. For art we will create Shark pictures, whales, marble painting, 3D

boats, and pictures about a story read in circle time called The Snail and the Whale. During outside play

we will squeeze lemons and make fresh lemonade for our friends. Also to continue our fine-motor skills

we will lace sea animals, cut sea animals out, and write our names on paper

School age – Ocean Exploration, the children will study and explore an Ocean theme. Children will

explore sea shells and paint with them. Children will learn about the ocean waves and current.

City Park Greetings from City Park. Last week , we had our first Water Play Day. The

children had lots of fun as you can see. When we have water play day, all

children must have shoes on. They can be water shoes, closed toe shoes or even

old sneakers but they must have something on their feet. We will be having water

day every Wednesday during the summer. With the Special Olympics in Los

Angeles this week, we will be having The YMCA Olympics. The children will be

participating in various physical activities such as bike races, jumping, balancing, obstacle course, and

running races. We will cheer each other on and have a great time. On the inside of the class, we will

be doing a variety of creative arts with different materials such as watercolors and shaving cream. We

will be working on our fine motor skills such as open and closing clothespins, lacing shapes and

picking up pretend worms with tweezers.

Harada THEME: TRAINS & MOTORCYCLES

YMCA Birthdays

Last week, the children were exploring different careers and learning how to be

ready to go to college and choose the right career for them. This week we

chose to research more about the transportation field, specifically trains and

motorcycles. So this is some of the information about that.

Lately the last 2 decades the science and technology has been improved amazingly in the transport

industry. This week, we will research and learn some facts about the history of the Trains and Motorcycles.

It will be interesting to find out when and where the first train and first Motorcycles were invented; the

difference of old and modern transportation; the variety of ways they are used now; and how convenient

each type of transportation is. In addition to all the research that will be provide to the children they will

be making a 3-D train and a card board motorcycle. Friday we will have share day, children will bring

their trains and motorcycles to share with their friends. For literacy we will read the book: The

Underground Railroad. The children will listen to the story, retell, draw and write their own story.
