FOOD ACCESS MAKES YOUTH DEVELOPMENT POSSIBLE
The Y’s Year Round Food Programs compliment support for all areas of youth development.
Cognitive - Achievement Gap work, programs to address summer learning loss, readers
program, art programs
Physical - Physical activities, mobile recreation units, nutrition education, connection to
community resources for health care
Social–Emotional - Relationships with positive community role models, character development, opportunities to establish positive peer relationships, leadership building
activities and college readiness
The Corona-Norco Family YMCA is committed to providing opportunities that allow children access to quality food and healthy lifestyles. The ongoing effort of the Y-USA in commitment
to children and families has implemented a multi-faceted collaboration and resources in conjunction with the Walmart Foundation has created meal programs with YEAR ROUND
ACCESS to food for children in low income areas!
The Corona-Norco Family YMCA was generously awarded the Year Round Food Program Grant. With this opportunity the Corona-Norco Family YMCA is able to increase the amount
of nutritious food we provide to the children in our programs and community. The Y serves breakfast/lunch and snack to all our locations and we provide a healthy environment that
allows children to learn, grow, and thrive.
We would like to thank Nora Shigemoto, Food Facilitator from the YMCA of Superior in Doug-las County; for visiting us and providing great ideas to pass on to our families and the com-
munity we serve.
IN OBSERVANCE WITH LABOR DAY, THE YMCA
WILL BE CLOSED ON MONDAY, SEPT. 7th!
CALVERT – This week we are welcoming new children into our
classroom. As we start the year, our theme will be learning about the school
and school rules. Our focus for this week will be on names that we need to
know at school. Children will be getting familiarized with our new children in
the class and the teacher. We will be focusing on names and “all about me”

Theme: Labor Day Activities
Children will interview their parents about their jobs. They will bring in one
thing or tool that describes their parent’s work. The children will discuss it
with their classmates and see who has similar jobs. We will also assist the
children with their homework. We will practice counting, writing their first and last names, and site
words. The children will make a collage of different people working. They will use magazines or they
will draw people.
activities. Every child will get to bring in a personal picture that will be attached to our classroom
board. We will also be introducing the children to areas of interest in the classroom and be given a tour
of the class.
SCHOOL AGE - This week in school age class we are studying the six pillars of good manners. This first
week, we will be discussing respect. “Respect is treating everyone, no matter what religion, race or
culture, male or female, rich or poor, in a way that you would want to be treated”. We will discuss and
write down words and actions that are used and that can hurt each other. It’s about showing good
manners to all people.
STATE PRESCHOOL FULL DAY - We are celebrating the end of the summer and the beginning of the
new school year. To kick off the New Year, we will be having activities that reflect our Back-to–School
theme. On September 4, 2015 our class will have a pajama day where we will read “Llama Llama Red
Pajama”. So grab your back pack and let’s get ready for the new school year in style.

or to those who’ve been doing this for a while.
The Home Gardens Public Library is proud to serve the community with the following free and educational

(Wednesday & Fridays) for infants and school aged children. Bilingual story time, “Aventura’s de Lecture”
takes place ever Wednesday afternoon at 4 pm and children are introduced to the world of literacy and
culture, with arts and crafts that follow. All community teens (ages 10 and up) are invited to form part of
Anime Club, every Tuesday at 4:00pm!
This week here at our Teen Center the Teens had a really fun week doing
many crafts and activities like Three Dimensional Miro Art, Teen Zentangle,
recycle old magazine art, sharpie crafts and much more. Next week the
Teens will be having much more fun! The Teens will be doing Bouncy Doddle

time playing board games and a fun game of Loteria.
We also offer Zumba Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday from 10-11
am and 6-7 pm. The classes are $3.00 dollars. From week to week the
Zumba classes range from classic Latin salsa to today’s modern pop music.
We have large and smaller classes to fit your need as well as multiple classes
throughout the week. It is a wonderful way to unwind and relax after a long
Citrus Circle Here at Citrus Circle we continue to provide the opportunity for the children to do
his/her homework and to assist them when help is needed after school. Parents
should be checking their homework packet at home. After homework is completed,
the children can pick an activity in one of the centers. The hot wheels, Uno and
mancala seem to be a favorite every day.
On Fridays there is no homework so the children painted pictures to decorate the
classroom. This Friday we will have a Game Day. The children can bring a game from home.

Welcome to all. This week we welcome new friends to our center. Our First Five
class is opening again. Last week, we did a study on Eric Carle books. One day we
read the book “Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What do you see?” For snack, we made
bears out of bananas and blueberries. Outside, we planted a new fall garden. We
planted beans, cucumbers and some flowers. We are continuing to monitor the
growth of our pumpkins that we planted last month. We are hoping to have
pumpkins for a City Park Pumpkin Patch in October. This week, our unit of study is
