Did you know that the Corona-Norco Family YMCA is helping children and families weather the economic storm? Every day we work side-by-side with our neighbors to make sure that everyone, regardless of age, income or background, has the opportunity to learn, grow and thrive. The Y now operates eight program sites with a continuum of care for children in the Corona-Norco and Jurupa Valley Unified School Districts ages 18 months to high school. We are always looking for support from our community. If you would like more information of how you can help, please contact Lorena Gomez (951) 736-1415 or [email protected] The Corona-Norco Family YMCA is a 501(c) (3) charitable organization classified by the Internal Revenue Service.

Thank you for your continued support of YOUR YMCA!

Main Y STATE & FIRST 5: We will be spending a good deal of time getting wet outside! Our teachers have planned some fun activities as the children explore the topics of pond life and the ocean. Fun topics like picnics and ice cream will also keep us in the summer spirit!

SCHOOL AGE Next week the children will be going to: River Splash Zone Time: 11:00am to 2:00pm

LET’S GO OUTSIDE Children love to play outside! Teachers love outdoor time, too. It’s a relaxing part of the day a time when much learning takes place. Physical development is evident outdoors as children learn about their bodies in space, practice important physical skills, and strengthen muscles. They also learn about the world around them. The outdoor environment is an extension of the classroom. The climbing equipment helps chil-dren develop judgment about what they can safely do. The sandbox is used to create mountains and castles and to explore the properties of dry and wet sand. We often bring classroom equipment outside to enrich the

outdoor environment. The time spent outside is a valuable part of our daily schedule.

From all Main Y For all Fathers FOOTPRINTS “Walk a little slower, Daddy,” Said a child so small. “I’m following in your footprints, And I don’t want to fall. Sometimes your steps are very fast. Sometimes they’re hard to see. So, walk a little slower, Daddy, For you are leading me. Someday when I’m all grown up, You’re what I want to be. Then I will have a little child Who’ll want to follow me. And I would want to lead just right, And know that I was true. So, walk a little slower, Daddy, For I must follow you.”

Home Gardens Theme: Bubble Play

This week we will work on cutting articles from magazines that makes bubbles such as: dish soap, laundry detergent, hand soap, and body soap. We will take the cutouts and make a bubble collage. They will also blow bubbles making a lot of bubbles so they can drop food coloring inti their bubbles. Take a piece of paper placed over it and make bubble art. Take a piece of paper place it over their bubble art and hurray his is their pictures. We are going a Field Trip: Thursday Bowling, Games: baseball, soccer, basketball and hand ball activities. Relay races, water play, musical chairs and Bingo

The Home Gardens Public Library is proud to serve the community with the following free and educational programs! Their toddler story time, commonly known as “Wiggles and Giggles” is a fun bi-weekly event (Wednesday & Fridays) for infants and school aged children. Bilingual story time, “Aventura’s de Lecture” takes place ever Wednesday afternoon at 4pm and children are introduced to the world of literacy and culture, with arts and crafts that follow. All community teens (ages 10 and up) are invited to form part of Anime Club, every Tuesday at 4pm. Home Gardens Library is gearing up for its annual summer reading program, Junto’s Leemos. Our theme this year is Read to the Rhythm, and we're looking forward to collaborating with our local YMCA on some lively activities. Our kick-off event will be at 4pm on June 3. THEME: KOI FISH This week we will continue exploring the animals in the ocean. This week we will research about the Koi fish,

there are many legends about the Koi fish, one we will discuss is that Koi fish are a common symbols in the Chinese culture, they have them on art work, clothing, ornamental and landscape designs. The word Koi comes from Japanese, meaning “carp.” Koi varieties are distinguished by coloration, patterning and type of scales. It will be interesting to research and learn about this fish. For activities, we are going to make play dough, we made some last week and the children just love it. The children enjoy playing with the play dough. Also we are going to make a toilet paper roll Koi fish, a paper plate bowl fish. For story time and dictation, we will have a fish story, children will be able to listen, retell and write their own fish story. Merrill We are winding down to the end of the school year at Merrill. It seems hard to believe that so much time has gone by. But as we look at our children at Merrill we can see the growth they have made in their academics, social, and physical skills. We as teachers at Merrill hope we have contributed to that growth. Next week we will have a fun week of different activities.

Monday we will have Hat Day (wear your favorite hat). Tuesday is Disney Day (dress up as your favorite Disney character). Wednesday is Get Wet Day (bring an extra set of clothes, no swim suits please). Thursday is Super Hero/ Princess Day (dress up as a super hero or princess)

Friday is PJ and Movie Day (wear your favorite pajamas, we will be watching Toy Story)

Zoey is still a popular subject at Merrill. It isn’t unusual when you come to Merrill to see Zoey in her ball exercising in the classroom. The children might follow her around the classroom for a while but not for long. The children discuss the foods that Zoey eats. In a conversation with the children the teacher told them her favorite vegetable is carrots. Now every day the children are in our garden digging up carrots for Zoey.
