Did you know that the Corona-Norco Family YMCA is helping children and families weather the economic storm? Every day we work side-by-side with our neighbors to make sure that everyone, regardless of age, income or background, has the opportunity to learn, grow and thrive. The Y now operates eight program sites with a continuum of care for children in the Corona-Norco and Jurupa Valley Unified School Districts ages 18 months to high school. We are always looking for support from our community. If you would like more information of how you can help, please contact Lorena Gomez (951) 736-1415 or [email protected] The Corona-Norco Family YMCA is a 501(c) (3) charitable organization classified by the Internal Revenue Service.

Thank you for your continued support of YOUR YMCA!

The Y is proud to partner with SACK for The Inaugural Imagine Dinner:

Main Y Did you know? During the following week our main focuses and themes that will be aligned with the curriculum are: Theater, Talent Show, picnic, Glow in the Dark, camping. School age will be going to the movies “Penguins of Madagascar”. If you have any fun items or props that you think would fit into any of these themes for our dramatic play we would greatly appreciate it! All the staff would like to wish our families a happy and safe Fourth of July! Happy Summer!

Why Play Outside? “The average American boy or girl spends as few as 30 minutes in unstructured outdoor play each day. Only 6% of children age nine to 13 play outside on their own in a typical week." These are frightening statistics shared by Edward Shepard in his article, "8 science-backed reasons for letting your kids play outdoors." Here are two of the eight reasons he cites: 1. Better vision — multiple studies show that sunshine and the natural light of outdoors lowers the chance of nearsightedness and improves

distance vision in children. Kids who spent more time outside had better distance vision than those who prefer indoor activities. A recent study from Ohio State University College of Optometry says that 14 hours a week of outdoor light is effective for better vision. 2. Better resistance to disease — multiple studies show that playing in the dirt (soil) outdoors helps kids stay healthy. Bacteria, viruses, and other gross things in the soil actually help the immune system and brain develop. Playing in the dirt can also improve a child's mood and reduce anxiety and stress. We offer Zumba Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday from 10-11am and 6-7pm. The classes are only $3.00. From week to week the Zumba classes range from classic Latin salsa to today’s modern pop music. We have large and smaller classes to fit your need as well as multiple classes throughout the week. It is a wonderful way to unwind and relax after a long day as well as dancing your way into a better lifestyle.

We also offer Senior Classes $5.00 the class. We have Core Workout with Pilates and Yoga on Thursdays from 9:30-10:30 am. There is also cardio fitness on Mondays from 11-12 noon. We would like to invite all seniors in our community to our classes. This class is perfect for anyone who is just starting off or to those who’ve been doing this for a while.

The Home Gardens Public Library is proud to serve the community with the following free and educational programs! Their toddler story time, commonly known as “Wiggles and Giggles” is a fun bi-weekly event (Wednesday & Fridays) for infants and school aged children. Bilingual story time, “Aventura’s de Lecture” takes place ever Wednesday afternoon at 4pm and children are introduced to the world of literacy and culture, with arts and crafts that follow. All community teens (ages 10 and up) are invited to form part of Anime Club, every Tuesday at 4pm. Home Gardens Library is gearing up for its annual summer reading program, Junto’s Leemos. Our theme this year is Read to the Rhythm, and we're looking forward to collaborating with our local YMCA on some lively activities. Our kick-off event will be at 4pm on June 3. Along with our regular events, we will also have special programming every Thursday from 4-5pm starting June 16. Our big summer event will be a talent show on July 30 (sign up at the library). For more information, contact the library at 951-279-2148.

THEME: TRANSPORTATION This week we will be exploring the transportation field. Children will learn all about different modes of transport. Transportation is the movement of people, animals and goods from one location to another.

Modes of transport include: automobiles, bicycles, buses, trains, space crafts, helicopters, air crafts and much more. The children will be excited about exploring this topic because they love to do activities related to this. They will be making toilet paper roll airplanes, cars, and boats. They will write and draw their own transportation story. On Friday, we will have a Movie day. The children will watch the movie CARS. Some parents have donated popcorn for the children to enjoy the movie time.
