Harada THEME: TRAINS & MOTORCYCLES

YMCA Birthdays

Last week, the children were exploring about different careers and learning how to be ready to go to college and choose the right career for them. This week we chose to re-search more about the transportation field, specifically trains and motorcycles. So this is some of the information about that.

Lately the last 2 decades the science and technology has been improved amazingly in the transport industry. This week, we will research and learn some facts about the history of the Trains and Motorcycles. It will be interesting to find out when and where the first train and first Motorcycles were invented; the difference of old and modern transportation; the variety of ways they are used now; and how convenient each type of transportation is. In addition to all the research that will be provide to the children they will be making a 3-D train and a card board motorcycle. Friday we will have share day, children will bring their trains and motorcycles to share with their friends. For literacy we will read the book: The Underground Railroad. The children will listen to the story, retell, draw and write their own story.

Main Y Summer Program: Monday was full of music and fun! CAT Lights up the stage with music from different eras. The preschool children and the summer day camp children enjoyed their performance and got to dance and learn new moves. Thank you CAT for a wonderful performance. Full Day We have been enjoying getting to know the new friends in our class! We have been working like little scientists in our classroom lately, experimenting with growing seeds and making hypotheses as to what will happen. We have found out that just because it is called “bird seed” does not actually mean that birds will sprout from it when planted and watered! Preschool let us know that, “seeds are gonna live in dirt when they are alive.” The children are learning valuable skills such as cause and effect. They are using their fine motor skills to plant seeds and draw pictures representing what they have observed in the planting process, as well as develop their language by dictating their guesses (hypotheses) of what might happen verbally to the class. Thank you for sharing your children with us! CALVERT This week we are exploring under the sea. We will be focusing on Various Ocean animals. Children will create animals such as Jelly Fish, killer whales, puffer fish, squid. We will be observing sea animals and sea shells for sensory. They will be able to observe, touch and smell a real fish and a lobster. Later on in the week they will be journaling their experiences.

Home Gardens Theme: Multicultural Fun

We will be exploring our own ethnic backgrounds. We will discuss things we like to do, eat, and wear. We will share what music we like to listen to, dance to, and the places we like to go. This week our art projects we will be making are chop sticks and flags. The children will be experiencing different fruits

from different cultures. For example, from Africa we will be experiencing figs and discuss different ways people prepare and eat figs. From Mexico we will try mangos and make a mango salad or a mango shake. From Japan we will try the pyramid shaped watermelon. From America we will try oranges and discuss different ways we can use oranges in cooking and eating. We will have outside play with bike races, sponge races, dances, musical chairs, limbo, and water play. Our field trip this week will be going to the movies.
