Upcoming Events

Did you know that the Corona-Norco Family YMCA is helping children and families

weather the economic storm? Every day we work side-by-side with our neighbors to

make sure that everyone, regardless of age, income or background, has the opportunity to learn, grow and thrive. The Y now operates eight program sites with a continuum of

care for children in the Corona-Norco and Jurupa Valley Unified School Districts ages 18

months to high school. We are always looking for support from our community. If you

would like more information of how you can help, please contact Lorena Gomez (951) 736-1415 or [email protected] The Corona-Norco Family YMCA is a 501(c) (3)

charitable organization classified by the Internal Revenue Service.

Thank you for your continued support of YOUR YMCA!

Home Gardens Theme: Back to School P A G E 3

Children will introduce themselves to one another. Discuss what their goals will be for the New Year; hard or easy classes, what type of grades are they expecting this year, A, B, C, D, F, O, S, N, what type of teacher they want for the school year, man or woman, what they hope to learn this school year and do they want to succeed in school ? Children will write or draw

what they did for the summer. We will be getting back HOMEWORK such as site words in English and Spanish, spelling words, numbers, math and science. Outside play, bike, balls, relay races, water play

chalk art. Have a great new school year

the way.

CALVERT - This week we will be learning various Nursery Rhymes such as Hickory, Dickory Dock,

Humpty Dumpty, Baa, Baa Black Sheep, Hey Diddle Diddle, Little Miss Muffet and Pat-a-Cake. Children

will create various art works using various objects related to the Rhymes. On Friday children will get to

mix ingredients and bake their own dinner rolls and will get to taste their baking with the help of

teachers and will collage their very own baker’s hat to wear prior to baking. We will be having water

day on Tuesday and Thursday this week. Additionally, the children will be using various sensory tubs

that have objects with the theme of the Nursery Rhyme. This week we will be having lots of fun!

STATE FULL TIME PRESCHOOL - Our students had lots of fun at the teddy bear picnic. They got to

share their teddy bears with their classmates, learn all about bears, and even make bear crafts. This

upcoming week the students in full day will be exploring during Safari week. We will have a special day

on Friday, when they will be able to dress-up as their favorite jungle animals (tigers, zebras, monkeys,

and more). Our students are ready to explore!

SCHOOL AGE - This week the School Age classroom will be preparing for a historic move to our new

site. We are going out in style and with a bang by celebrating with a Fiesta, as well as a water day on

the last day of the week. We look forward to the move and new opportunities. Thank you Main “Y”

Citrus Circle This week we explored the solar system. We researched each planet. We checked the size of each planet compared to the sun, what color each planet looks like and what the order the planets are to the sun. After the children had all their information on the planet they picked, the children made their paper mache’ planets out of newspaper and glue. Then they painted their planet. They

turned out good and the children had a lot of fun doing it. If you come by Citrus Circle you will see our display of the planets across the ceiling and in the order the planets are closet to the sun. Next week the children start school on August 11th. We will be providing help

with their homework after school from 3-6pm. On Friday we will have special

project since there is no homework on Fridays.

Zumba classes range from classic Latin salsa to today’s modern pop music. We have large and smaller classes to fit your need as well as multiple classes throughout the week. It is a wonderful way to unwind and relax after a long day as well as dancing your way into a better lifestyle.

Here at the YMCA Teen Center we also offer Senior Classes $5.00 Dollars the class. We have Core Workout with Pilates and yoga on Thursdays from 9:30 – 10:30 am. There is also cardio fitness on Mondays from 11-12 noon. We would like to invite all seniors in our community to our classes. This class is perfect for any-one who is just starting off or to those who’ve been doing this for a while.

The Home Gardens Public Library is proud to serve the community with the following free and educational programs! Our toddler story time, commonly known as “Wiggles and Giggles” is a fun bi-weekly event (Wednesday & Fridays) for infants and school aged children. Bilingual story time, “Aventura’s de Lecture” takes place ever Wednesday afternoon at 4 pm and children are introduced to the world of literacy and culture, with arts and crafts that follow. All community teens (ages 10 and up) are invited to form part of Anime Club, every Tuesday at 4:00pm.

This week our teens had a fun week doing many fun activities like Paper Mache Piñatas, Water color paintings, spoon creations and much more. Next week the teens will be creating their own Home Gardens Mural and Yarn wrapped painted jars, abstract paintings, recycled foam board mobile, Three Dimensional Miro Art and much more and to end our Fun week we will be having a fun end of Summer Vacation party for our teens as they prepare themselves to go back to school. They really had a great time during summer here at the YMCA Teen Center. Even though we didn’t get to go

any Fieldtrips this year we made it fun for them here and they really enjoyed it!

We also offer Zumba Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday from 10-11 am and 6-7 pm. The classes are $3.00 dollars. From week to week the

and Spanish as well. The children will do different activities related to the book. The children will be eating coconut and drinking coconut water.

Greetings from City Park. This week we say goodbye to our friends going to Kin-dergarten. We will miss them but we know they will have lots of fun at their new schools. Last week, we talked about animals who live at the zoo. On Friday, the children made animals in a cage cooking project. The children drew lines on a baggie to make in seem like it was a zoo cage and then added animal cookies to make it seem like the animals were in a cage. This week we will be reading with the book "Chicka Chicka Boom Boom.” Ms. Marisa will read the book in English

YMCA Birthdays

THERE: GOOD MANNERS This week at Harada staff will discuss with the children how important is to have and use good manners at all the time no matter where you are and where you go. We will emphasize specifically the best way, so the children can

understand and get use to use good manners when interacting with other peers and adults. They will learn how to develop social skills and show correct behavior at home and in public. We will review the YMCA

rules and remind the children how to behave when they eat and drink. We will talk and teach them how to set up a table how to say please when they ask for something and say thank you!! After, we will talk about, polite and respectful words so the children can learn how to get along better and respect each other as individuals.
