SEBOKENG.-There are different kinds ofdogs in life or in the world. However, if thesekinds of dog were gathered in one place, in-cluding the bull mastiff, pitbull terrier, showdog,German Shepherd, bull terrier, boxer, ga-me dogs, all hell would probably break loose. That was not the case on Saturday at the

Zone 7 Stadiumwhere these dogs were gathe-red for educational purposes and public awa-reness. Organiser Dan Siba-nyoni says the primary ob-jective of the event was tomake the public aware andstop the abuse of dogs, in-cluding dogfights.“Dog-fighting is a serious

offence that can land one inprison or having to pay a hu-ge fine. It is also a form ofabuse that terrifies dogs,”explains Sibanyoni, who or-ganised a fun walk from Zo-ne 7 Stadium and a touraround the township. The awareness campaign

stunned many residents asdog sports are mainly domi-nated by the white commu-nity. “Wewant to create a le-vel of understanding in thecommunity about dogs. We

are aiming to attract the white community topartner with us on this journey, since they ha-ve being doing it for years,” he says.A bystander said she does not have a dog

since she has a phobia against dogs, but ifdogs are treated this way she might buy onesoon. “ It is very good when black communi-ties engage themselves in activities like this,to see young people engaging in good deeds.I’m very proud to have seen this, I have never

seen it before in the black community. I hopeit grows further,” says a community member.During the parading of dogs there were ga-

mes played, teaching the community how tohandle dogs. Sibanyoni says the games wereamateur-driven, though they are hoping formore people who come in and learn aboutdogs and how to treat them.

Dogs were given special treatment as onthe day and they took centre stage by storm.Sibanyoni says there will be more dog-walksas the tour has already started in the neighbou-ring areas of Orange Farms and Soweto.“We are planning to come up with a huge

tour soon that will include all the regions inGauteng,” says the organiser.

BOIPATONG. - Angry Tshepiso residentsof Phase Five, especially women, havetaken a stand to catch, fight and kill rapists. They say that rapists will now think twicebefore striking. Residents charge that, eve-ry week, a woman is attacked and raped. Some suspects are known and live in andaround the community. Victims are am-bushed in the tall grasswhen they go shop-ping.

Two women aged between 18 and 25were attacked with a knife and forced tostrip off in a field. The incident happenedbetween Phase 5 and Steel ParkRoad. Onevictim who cannot be named told Sed-ibeng Ster that it happened at about 11:45on February 25 when they were crossingtall grass. They were heading for the R28that led to Vereeniging. She explained thatthey were confronted by a middle-agedman coming out of the grass with a knife.“He said we must not to scream and wemust obey instructions, or we were dead.

After we stripped off our clothes he totoldus to lie on the ground,” said a victim. “Hetold us we must choose who comes first.Whilewewere both reeling in shock, he tookto the ground an 18-year-old woman. “Heinstructed me to look in the opposite direc-tion. He was holding a knife in his otherhand. He later put the knife on the groundwhile busy with my friend. Later he instruct-ed me to squat on the ground, facing in theirdirection. Seeing that he was busy enjoyingwhat he was doing,” said the victim, “I stoodup slowly and hit the road while screaming. As he tried to chase me, my friend managedto stand up and escape. We left our clothesbehind,” she said. “When I was about toreach the road, the suspect returned to the tallgrass,” she adds. VANDERBIJLPARK. - Five high rankingmembers of the Public Order Police (Pop),allegedly received R4000 in bribes from thedriver of a bakkie. These were aimed at dodging arrest. Four

Warrant Officers and a Captain might findthemselves in hot water pending the outcomeof investigations.A case of fraud against the men in blue

was registered at the Vanderbijlpark policestation on March 3. The suspects briefly ap-peared at the Vanderbijlpark MagistratesCourt on March 4.They were all granted bail of R500 each

after the case was postponed until April 14for further investigations.Captain Paul Ramaloko, national spokes-

person of the Hawks, has confirmed the ar-rests. He said on the day of the ordeal, theofficers on duty stopped a bakkie transport-ing 10 sheep. They allegedly accused the driver of con-

travening the Animal Transport Act. Ram-aloko said seeing that the driver failed tocomply with the law the officers allegedlyinstructed him to pay R4000 cash or face im-mediate arrest.

The driver indeed paid the mentionedamount before he was freed. He later blew the whistle to the Police

about the bribe. Two weeks later the officers decided to

hand back the cash but it was too little toolate. The Hawks were already on their heels.Other SAPS members were horrified by

the incident. As a result the police have also instituted

an internal disciplinary hearing against themembers.Police said notices of suspension had not

been served on the suspects and they are allback on duty. The suspects will know their fate immedi-

ately after proper investigation has been fi-nalised. A docket has been given to a seniordetective to investigate criminal charges, hesaid. It is not clear whether the case will alsobe handed to the Independent Police Investi-gate Directorate (IDIP) for further probe. The suspects are still to be served with

suspension notices.Rumours are that the suspects (their

names are known to Sedibeng Ster) are alleg-edly used to terrorising people, especiallybusiness people in the Vaal area.

SEBOKENG.- Ever since the BoikgetheloSecondary School moved to better premisesin 2008 the vacant building left behind hasbeen very problematic to the community ofZone 13.According to members of the community,

the building is a high crime zone, housingdrug abusers and stolen property. The thing that the community fears the

most is the safety of the small children thatpass through the building to go to the schoolthat is right next to it which is Modishi-Le-kashu Primary School.A concerned youth Melusi Msibi says,

“As the unemployed youth of this area wewould highly appreciate it if the buildinggets turned into a skills and developmentcentre for the unemployed.”

Ward 32 councilor Anna Kgoali confir-med that there was a problem with the buil-ding.“This issue has been under discussion for

a while to a point that we even asked thepolice to be involved. We are hoping for the building to be tur-

ned into a community centre, which will beused for developmental purposes for thegood of the community.”“The building is now under Public works

and in order for someting to be done the buil-ding would have to be handed over to themunicipality” Kgoali concludes.

MEYERTON. - Midvaal Local Municipali-ty’s engineering department is hard at workinstalling new standpipes in the Sicelo area. The project to take more water to the peo-

ple began on February 3 and is expected tobe completed at the end of March.40 new taps will be provided across the

Eastern and Western areas of Sicelo, in orderto improve access to this basic commodity.

One of the biggest problems in Sicelo inthe past regarding water has been the longwaiting times at taps. The new standpipes, which have been funded by Midvaal LocalMunicipality, will be fed from a new enlargedpipe network. It will allow a faster flow of water, so that

residents can fill utensils quickly and lessenthe waiting time. The municipality is wor-king closely with the Expanded PublicWorks Programme (EPWP) members of Si-celo who are building the pipe network them-selves. 28 EPWP residents have been hiredas temporary workers and have received trai-ning and payment for the work they are do-ing. The municipality has also provided themwith uniforms. An EPWP member has beenappointed as foreman and another is theCLO. Five others are pipe fitters. The EPWP creates work for unemployed

people. They also receive tools to excavatetrenches and have been supplied with pipes. They have also been taught to join the pipes.MidvaalMMC for Engineering Councillor

Malcolm Hack said that it is important thatthey involve the local community in these ba-sic services projects to ensure that they takeownership of the new equipment, and lookafter it well and use it wisely.Water meters will be installed in the areas

to monitor wastage and the water will be pro-vided at no cost to residents.

The crux of the occasionerupted after a speech from MEC Maile. Hetold the house to stand united and to vote forthe party that has brought change to their li-ves.

“We are notgoing to lie and saywe’ll solve all theproblems and pro-vide everything.

However, I willsay we will striveto bring more chan-ge to our people intime. In 20 years inpower we have le-arnt and we knowwhat not to do andwhat to do,” Mailesaid to the masses.

Sharpeville Hallwobbled with thepublic’s uncertaini-ty. The uncertainlyemerged especiallyduring question ti-

me. Sharpeville residents feel that the rulingparty disrespected them by taking March 21to Kliptown two years ago.

“ We need a formal apology from Zumaand the provincial government.

“We elected them into power and we canremove them. “The Soweto uprising cannotbe and will never be hosted by an outsider, because it’s their dignity and pride and theyvalue that,” says a community member.

One of the very problematic issues was theGeorge Thabe Stadium.

Many Sharpeville residents feel that theupgrade was a waste of time and money asthey don’t see the difference between the oldand the new structures.

They further touched on the issue of cor-ruption and high employment rate in the area.

ELM Mayor Greta Hlongwane and MECMaile tried to give answers to unsatisfied re-sidents as best as they could.

It has been two weeks now since the Oscar‘Blade Runner’ Pistorius ‘Valentines Day’murder trial has began and all eyes are fixedton the small screen for the deliberations ofthis poor guy’s trial. We all know that Oscarshot Reeva, he argues that this was not intenti-onal as he had thought that there was an intru-der in the house.I am not going to play judge, jury or execu-

tioner here and and neither should you. A per-son is declared innocent until proven guiltyin this country, which has one of the most de-mocratic constitutions in the whole world.Everyone charged with any offence has theright to be presumed innocent until provenguilty according to law, in a public trial atwhich he or she has had all the guaranteesnecessary for his or her defence.

No-one can be held responsible for anypenalty or offense on account of any act oromission which did not constitute an offenceunder our constitution at the time it was com-mitted. As long as we continue to live as ifwe are what we do, what we have, and whatother people think about us, we will remainfilled with judgments, opinions, evaluations, and condemnations. We will remain addictedto putting people and things in their “right”place. For years the ‘Bladerunner’ was an idol to

many, many of those are preparing for hisdownfall right now. How soon do people for-get?Now, did Oscar shoot Reeva? Yes he did

and he has said so himself. Was it intentional? This is the matter for the courts, I believe.South Africans are quick to judge, forgettingthat they themselves are not perfect and havehidden skeletons which if revealed ito the pu-blic would make them the enemy. Before you judge Oscar, although you have

probably already done so, go away and writedown the four worst things you have done toothers recently, even if - especially if - theydo not know about them. Don’t dress thingsup, or try to explain them; just write themdown, in a list, in the plainest language possi-

ble. Finished? OK, so who’s worse now? Areyou guilty? While you judge me by my out-ward appearance I am silently doing the sameto you, even though there’s a ninety-percentchance that in both cases our assumptions arewrong. I beg you not to get me wrong here.I am not saying Pistorius is innocent, but

don’t you think he deserves a fair trial?“Don’t judge too harshly, for if your weak-

vote for a change, stating that in order forthings to change, people had to change and usetheir votes. The people of Boipatong raised their con-

cerns about the lack of service delivery, pover-ty, the high rate of unemployment and lack ofof entrepreneurial opportunities.“Most of us here are unemployed, perma-

nent job opportunities are slow to come by.”

the community members stated, adding thatgovernment’s pledge to create employmentwas a much needed initiative though the6-month contract was short and would leavemany more unemployed.

“The Democratic Alliance has proposed atwo-year youth wage subsidy, which will givethe youth a chance of learning and gainingwork experience for 2 years before they aresent out to go job hunting.Much better than the current 6- month con-

tracts that the government is giving to theunemployed.” said Maimane. This came after a resident complained about

her contract ending after only 6months ofwor-king.Maimane stated that there were a lot of im-

provements that needed to bemade in theVaal.“Coming to the Vaal should not be like goingto the rural areas where there are no properroad structures and tar roads, but this is exactlythe kind of experience people get when theycome here.

SEBOKENG. - Third Zone Youth Develop-ment Organisation formed a structure thathelps its own community by fighting healthhazards.

These young people formed a group thatincluded parents around the area in Zone 3.Their initial stumbling block was a dump sitethat had become ‘criminal’ territory. Grouprepresentative SunnyMalindi says they couldnot live in a dirty place.

“The dump site was just fighting againstour health. We needed to act.We did not wantto wait for the government to do something, but we knewwewere the affected people. Wewere obliged to act and find a solution,” says

Malindi. Apparently the dump site was nextto the shopping centre. Malindi says theycould not buy food next to such a filthy place. He added that criminals and drug addictswereusing the place as a hot spot. “We needed tointervene and act fast for the sake of our he-alth and community.

“The dump site was turned into a play-ground. We are encouraging these drug ad-dicts to come and play soccer, basketball orany sporting code,” Malindi said.

VEREENIGING. - “We are so often over-come by negative sentiments concerningour youth that we forget what they can ac-complish with guidance from a dedicatedstaff and management.”

This is according to Alette de Klerk, thespectator and cheerleader-coordinator ofGeneral Smuts High School.

“The Smuts spectators and cheerleadersare a shining example of the positive quali-ties in the South African youth,” De Klerksaid.

The Smutsies took their spectator andathletic performance to new heights usingan aeronautical theme that was reflectedin the T-shirts, hats, decor and even an “al-most” life-size aeroplane.

The “Smuts New Frontiers Plane”, builtby André Minnie, combined with theiramazing cheerleaders and spectator teamwas an unforgettable performance.

The school blazers are a symbol of theproud Smutsie tradition and formed an in-tegral part of the shapes and patterns crea-ted by the spectators on the stands.

A combination of tradition and innova-tion is what makes the Smuts spectatorgroup unique. Participation in this eventprovides 200 learners with the opportunityto feel a sense of pride in their school.

“It is not only the fun that learners havethat motivates our staff to work so hardat making this a success but also the factthat it channels their energies in a positiveavenue and ensures that negative activitiesbecome less appealing,” Mr Bartie, princi-

pal of the school, said “Our consistentlyoutstanding performances at the inter highschools athletic meetings shows that Con-quering New Frontiers is a life-long purs-uit that will never fail us and will createa brighter, more positive future for our yo-uth,” De Klerk concluded.

MEYERTON. - The Highveld Horse CareUnit needs the help of the public to look afterabandoned and ill-treated horses and don-keys.

Situated in 42 Maanhaarjakkals Street,Valley Settlements, it is one of three speciali-sed units in the country. It falls under theNati-onal Horse Trust.

The unit was originally established in 1991on small premises at the back of the Vereeni-ging SPCA.

The need for funds to open a specialisedunit was recognised by the horse-racing in-dustry which still contributes funds to theunit’s operating costs.

In 1993, the racing industry donated theHighveld Farm of 32 acres with 25 stablesjust outside Meyerton. There are 18 staffmembers and four inspectors.

Calls have been carried out as far as Messi-na, Kimberley and Bloemfontein and virtual-ly every town in between.

Due to a lack of resources, the unit can onlyattend to emergencies in townships. Abattoirinspections, the illegal bush slaughter of hor-ses and donkeys, monitoring security horses, riding schools, stud farms and complaints arepart of a normal day’s work for them.

A large number of court cases have beensuccessfully prosecuted. The unit also reloca-tes horses which the owner can no longerkeep. Each horse that is adopted or fosteredthrough the unit, goes out on a special policy, and is monitored for the rest of its life.

They are very busy in the winter, when ow-ners cannot give supplementary feed or shel-ter. They are then inundated with reports ofstarving horses all over the country. At timeslast winter, they had 85 horses in their care.

“We would not be able to manage withoutthe generous aid of our supporters. We askthe public to report to us when horses are ill-treated, undernourished or injured.

“We also give advice to owners, or theycan contact us when their horses are lost orstolen,” says Nadia Saunderson, Manager ofthe HHCU.

They can be contacted on (016) 360 9900,or 082 921 1644, which is also the emergencynumber.

Although desperate to cover townships upuntil now, they have only been able to at-tend to emergencies due to lack of resour-ces.

SEBOKENG. - The Toughest YoungMinds reveals to the public that drug ad-diction not only impairs the physical asit also destroys mind and soul.Sedibeng Ster visited one of many pro-

grammes the organisation conducts, in-cluding the spiritual therapy held everyThursday by Pastor Sunnyboy Mankhoe. He says it is vital for the public to knowmore about the ‘nyaope’ addict on a spiri-tual level. Before speaking to this man of the

cloth we had an exclusive interview withTshegofatso Botlhoko, a social worker.“Rehabilitation programmes requiremuch time and dedication. Addicts needto be willing to take what is necessaryto be helped. We conduct thorough inten-sive pre-counselling. We have to allocatea new lifestyle in order for the healing

process to begin. We need considerable ti-me to prepare the patient for the healingprocess,” says Botlhoko. She adds that during rehabilitation the

addict needs to be sober for at least fivedays before and during the programme.“The medication for rehabilitation is veryexpensive and it’s also dangerous to a per-son who doesn’t follow all the rules. Met-hodone is a drug-free medication and, if apatient mixes it with any kind of drug, thatpatient could lose his life,” she warns.Mankhoe says intensive research by the

TYM organisation has revealed that an ad-dict does not fully reach a state of rehabili-tation because spiritual healing needs to bedealt with. “Nyaope or any other drug isspirit-driven and rehabilitation requires spi-ritual cleansing,” says Mankhoe. He says these drugs are blood-transmit-

ted, and it is blood that houses Spirit.

6 Years before I met this powerful spiritual womanShakira, I was UNHAPPY because my husband wascheating on me, our kids were always sickly and I hadno-money! I tried everything from healers, priests& gurus but nothing seemed to work for me. I onlywasted money. Luckily I saw two testimonials on alocal T.V station by an OLD MAN whose son Shakirahad saved from DRUG and ALCOHOL ABUSE and aDIVORCED LADY Shakira had RE-UNITED with herEX-HUSBAND after 9-years.

ACCURATELY READ MY FORTUNE and told me all my problems before I spoke a wordto her. She used a mirror to SHOW FACES OF PEOPLE who were trying to pull me down. She performed a 1 day special prayer for me, cleansed me from bad-luck and also gave mepowerful love-crystals, Indian ash plus a special-ring to fix my financial problems. WITHIN3 DAYS OF Shakira’s PRAYERS, my husband CONFESSED EVERYTHING and asked forFORGIVENESS. My kids are now healthy and I recently got a SENIOR JOB PROMOTION.ARE YOU FEELING TOTALLY HELPLESS, HEART-BROKEN & FINANCIALLY MISERABLE?IS THE SITUATION GETTING WORSE? DON’T LOSE HOPE!! I have referred Shakira to manypeople & she has delivered results for them within few days. She can help you too!!

If all the development coaches want to co-ach in the SABLeague andVodacomLea-gue in this region – who will coach theyoungsters?Shooting From The Hip is quite aware

that some of the development coaches ha-ve neglected the youngsters because theyare so ambitious to coach at the highestlevel. The only thing that affects the standard

of our junior league is that the develop-ment coaches want to be the Jose Mourin-ho’s of this world. What about our youth? There is nothing wrong when coaches

dream big, but all of a sudden everyonewants to coach in SAB League and Voda-com League. The question that Shooting From The

Hip is asking is, ‘If the development coa-ches give up on our talent, who will bethere for these youngsters? Some of these boys have since decided

to quit the sport that they grew up loving, but not anymore. In case those development coaches are

not aware – these youngsters want to beappreciated. They want somebody who will appreci-

ate their talent. For example the Promotion League has

started and now you will see the juniorsoccer teams suffering. For the past two weeks youngsters have

been enjoying themselves with the SafaSedibeng Junior League in full swing.Shooting From The Hip can only wish thatthe development coaches will honour thefixtures until the end of the season. The biggest challenge in this region is

that every time the Promotion Leaguestarts the development coaches forgetabout the junior soccer teams. The reason being: they want to win the

promotion league. The truth of the matter is that some of

the coaches will continue to lose playersto opposition teams, not because these yo-ungsters are after material things, but be-cause theywant their talent to be apprecia-ted.Again, the development thinking is

wrong – they think to build the house onemust start with the roof! HELL NO!How many times has Shooting From

The Hip have been saying this: When youbuild the house the first thing you haveto do is build a solid foundation – this isexactly what is supposed to happen withfootball in this region.Shooting From The Hip has no problem

when development coaches challenge theleague title, but they must do so withoutneglecting these youngsters.Coaches throw these youngsters into

the deep end and they will learn how toswim on their own.We can’t all be the Mourinho’s of this

world.

Not all of you can be JoseMourinho’s of this world

This Ratanda based team is the current logleaders with 32 from 13 games, but VUT FCis breathing heavily on their necks with thesame number of points, the only differencebetween the two is that ‘The Students’ haveplayed more games compared to their coun-terparts - Real Hearts.

Real Hearts FC continued with their im-pressive form when they walloped HillsideUnited FC 4-0 in a one-sided Safa SedibengSAB League match played at Zone 7 Stadiumover the weekend.

The second placed VUT FC also put pres-sure at the top when they beat the strugglingSebokeng Ajax FC 3 - 0 in another Safa Sedi-beng SAB League match played at Isak SteylStadium on Friday, while third placed - VaalMilano beat Try Me Again FC 1-0. The
