After something like 4 years, our clock is finally working again. The mechanism was lost or stolen following the towers dismantling for the road widening, and had to be re-manufactured.

Now we have to get used to looking at it again to check the time, (after all this time).

Clock resumes its service!

March means trail time for Surf Coast artistsRegistrations are now open for local artists to join the ever-popular annual Surf Coast Arts Trail for 2016 which is happening over the weekend of 13- 14 August.

From Bambra to Barrabool, Connewarre to Lorne and everywhere in between, the trail continues to showcase the amazing talent of Surf Coast visual artists across all media.

The trail presents a unique opportunity for art lovers to meet artists, see them at work and take home some new favourite pieces.

In 2015, more than 70 artists registered for the trail with many throwing open their own studios and others setting up with colleagues in community halls and other venues.

The event is free for Surf Coast Shire visual artists to join, with registrations due by Monday 4 April via https://surfcoast.smartygrants.com.au/SurfCoastArtsTrail2016Registration

Mayor, Cr Rose Hodge, said the arts trail’s continued growth made it one of the region’s most popular arts events.

“The Surf Coast’s amazing landscapes and sense of community provide a lot of inspiration to artists, and the arts trail presents a unique opportunity to meet the artists who contribute so much to our region,” Cr Hodge said.

“The Arts Trail’s continued growth is a testament to the talent of our local artists and all involved in this event. Whether you’re a regular participant who has made previous years’ Arts Tails so special or a first timer, I invite you to register and get involved.”

From the BurrowHow much lead ?When was the Winchelsea Common opened to use by the Winchelsea Gun Club ?

A little birdy said shooting began there in 1955. This little birdy also recalled that at each shoot, a minimum of 150kgs of lead was shot. Depending on the number of shooters, sometimes more. 150kg’s every two weeks. 300kg's every month. 3600 kg’s every year.

So lets round things a little. 60 years of shooting on the common equals a total of 216,000kgs of lead shot, sitting on the Winchelsea Common. That’s the equivalent weight of 135 Ford Falcons (average Falcon weighs 1600kg’s).

“One Stop Auto Shop”... in Winchelsea. Is there a time when your car simply won’t go, or tyre is flat and you don’t know where to turn? Would you like to have your car reliably serviced and not have the inconvenience of going to a city?

Linton Cox at Winchelsea Auto Services has built up a One Stop Auto Shop and can back it with experience. Obviously a lover of all things mechanical, Linton was fixing lawn mowers while still at school.

Imagine a cold winter morning, you leave home in Werribee at 5am to work in Clayton and don’t come home again till 7 pm. Two trains each way. You are 16 years old. You do this for 4 years while you complete an apprenticeship.

Linton completed his apprenticeship with the Gas and Fuel Corporation Victoria working on vehicles from council fleets, LPG fitting, bulk LPG and with experience in transport depots – in short, an apprenticeship with wide variety. Next move was to Toyota and Holden dealerships where the latest electronic management systems were part of the job. Then a step up to managing the logging fleet of trucks and dozers at Colac’s Calco Timber, at the young age of 26.

This gave him the experience of ‘old school’ and modern technology; invaluable to someone who later would be working with all these types of vehicles in his own business.

In 2001, with the encouragement and backing of his father, Linton opened his business in the Industrial Estate, Winchelsea. Like any business owner, client and staff loyalty are of utmost importance. Linton speaks highly of his current employees. Steve Marshman, son of Leigh and Virginia, has been with Linton for 10 years and very much a loyal employee. Steve started with

Saturday work experience and is now head mechanic. A young fellow with a “great attitude” doing a VET trainee program has joined the team after school. He keeps asking when he is coming to work next and will do anything. Warren Heath is back in the office – invaluable as service adviser, workshop manager, with 20 years’ experience in automotive and spare parts and has the mechanical ability to understand customers “self-diagnosis” of their vehicles. This allows Linton to return to the workshop and do what he knows best. Dain is another mechanic with 15 years’ experience, specializing in buses, trucks and of course cars when the need arises.

A year or so ago, it was noticed that a broom was used more regularly, especially in the office. The place had the feel of a woman’s touch. Linton’s partner, Kym was on the work scene. It may be a male environment but Kym is not just the tea lady. She has many titles, all of equal importance in a business. Bringing the business forward after 15 years trading, with a revamp including office refurbishment, and new signage are ideas to start with. Kym is event manager on the Winchelsea Auto Services site at the Hunt & Gather Field Days at the end of March. See www.growingwinchelsea.com for details.

“If quality comes first, then quantity will follow.” Linton says. This statement has proved accurate - from fleets to private

cars. Vehicles from Hesse Rural Health Service and Surf Coast Shire fleets are serviced at this local business along with many private clients from around the town and area.

Services include Vic Roads Roadworthy Certificates, Log book servicing, Wheel Alignments, A/C Repairs, Auto Electrical and more. VACC Membership for 11years. With good stock of New Tyres, Batteries, Oils and Spare Parts, it truly is a “One Stop Auto Shop".

…and where is Winchelsea Auto Services? Turn north at the Murrell Street traffic lights then left before the railway line and left into Alsop Drive. Surf Coast Shire will soon be improving signage in Winchelsea and one to be updated is to the Industrial Estate.

Review: Stewart and I have had vehicles including farm truck, farm utility through to a new model VW with automatic “everything”, serviced at Winchelsea Auto Services, since its opening in 2001. In an emergency with an urgent trip to Melbourne pending and faulty right rear indicator, I called in for help. I was on the road in 15 minutes with new indicator light and totally relaxed. We believe in “Shop Local”. Why would we go anywhere else when the price is right and the quality is always present.

Spotlight On...In this occasional series, we will introduce residents to residents. This profile is written by Jenny Mathison.

Because of the cessation of the special Religious Education sessions in schools the Inter- Church Committee has decided to hold monthly after-school activities for the school children based on a Christian theme the same as Paradise has been running for many years. The same team of dedicated adults will be running WOW. We aim to make the 2hour session a fun & relaxed time for the children based on a Christian theme, where they will have snacks, play games, sing songs and hear Christian stories then do lots of interesting craft activities.

If you would like your children to learn about our Christian heritage then bring them along commencing Wed 23rd March at 3pm in the Leisure Time Centre. Parents welcome to stay and have a cuppa & chat. All supervising adults have a Police Check & Working with Children’s Check. This weeks theme will be based on Easter & includes an Easter egg hunt, the egg symbolizing new life. Wed 23rd March at the LTC

Growing Winchelsea Inc. to host Greg ChampionCoodabeen Champions star set to shine in WinchelseaThe March meeting of Growing Winchelsea Inc. was attended by 23 interested locals. Among the items discussed was the upcoming performances by Coodabeen Champions member Greg Champion.

The Coodabeens have been running for over 35 years, and are presently heard each Saturday night on ABC radio.

It was decided that as he was in town for a Morning Melodies event, it would be a good opportunity to have him perform at a second function. It will be on the evening of May 25, at either the Globe Theatre or Eastern Reserve. John Bumford will form a small committee to run the event.

We have put in a submission for a grant from the Small Town Transformation Project, for river paths and sculptures. This is available for towns with a population under 2000. Six towns in Victoria will be chosen, with the announcement in late March. $350,000 will be awarded to each town, and will be paid over two years.

Cr Carol McGregor asked that Growing Winchelsea write a letter to Council, requesting that they write to VicRoads in order to start the study and planning process for a future truck bypass of Winchelsea township. Kevin McDonald recommended that Surf Coast Shire contact residents and business owners along the highway as part of the study. He mentioned that the last survey was in 1968.

Following a letter from a member, who pointed out the discrepancy in the quality of street lighting on Princes Highway, from the east side to the west side of town. We have written to VicRoads requesting an explanation.

We have also been pursuing VicRoads regarding the removal of the dangerous pedestrian refuge on

Deans Marsh Road, which has been the scene of quite a few accidents. The island was to have been removed in January, but was finally removed last week, following another letter from Growing Winchelsea.

A letter was received from the Barwon Hotel, stating that they had definitely seen benefits since they began offering RV parking, and are happy with the approval by Council of the 12-month trial.

The Growing Winchelsea Committee will meet with Surf Coast Council executive team on April 14. This is the second of the regular meetings, and allows us to discuss relevant issues regarding Winchelsea.

A Small Grants Program from the Surf Coast Shire was announced at the meeting. The grants are for up to $1000, and the categories are Community initiatives, Art and Culture, Environment, Sport and Recreation. Application forms and guidelines can be downloaded at www.surfcoast.vic.gov.au

The Council held an information session to obtain residents views and suggestions on the Town Centre Access and Parking Project. It was held at the Community House on Thursday March 17.

A suggestion was put forward that there are some beautification projects around town that some local groups could become involved in, without relying on Council.

The old toilet block and picnic shelter at the bottom of the shopping centre, could be made more attractive with cement sheeting and painting. The Leisure-time centre could be painted outside (or a bright mural painted), and seats made and installed along the river banks. There are probably more possible projects around as well.

Before

After

These items could possibly be done with the aid of the Lions Club and Men’s Shed (to name two possible organisations), and any interested volunteers. Funding could come from Council Grants, local businesses, or even the Star newspaper could be approached for sponsorship. Signs can be erected, as you will see in many towns, proclaiming ‘built with the assistance of ……..’

Any interested groups or individuals willing to be involved, please contact [email protected]

Before

After

The Hunt & Gather field day is looking strong with 50 exhibitors expected. Advertising will be by way of radio in Colac, ads and articles in the Colac Herald, Geelong Advertiser, Surf Coast Times and Weekly TImes

A market will be held near the Barwon Hotel on Sunday, but there has been a difficulty finding stallholders because it is the weekend after Easter. There will be live music and children’s entertainment. The Men’s Shed will hold a ‘Catch-a-Carp Competition. More information will be published in the Star.

The annual Uniting Church auction which is in its 33rd (or 34th?) year, will be on Saturday April 2. Intake of goods will start on Friday April. Volunteers are sought to help on the day; contact Geoff Orchard on 0417 059 683

The Council has concluded its request for residents to submit ideas for the Winchelsea Gateway Project sculptures. These ideas will be passed onto the Committee for dissemination.

The Childcare report has been presented to the board of Hesse Rural Health. More information when it becomes available.

The next meeting for the Winchelsea Destination Plan will be on Tuesday April 19, 10 am to 12.30 pm in the Members Room, Eastern Reserve. Anyone interested in serving on this committee should contact Stu Fountain on 0417 160 559.

A discussion took place on the possibility of holding regular Farmers Markets in Winchelsea, and the approvals necessary. It is hoped that it is possible to begin holding markets later in the year.

The issue of the Fun Kart Club was again raised. Chris Reilly from the Fun Kart Club expressed his disappointment in the perceived lack of support by Growing Winchelsea when the request to re-open the track was rejected by Council. Cr Carol McGregor offered to discuss with the Shire Planning Department to try to find an alternative site. Chris said that the club has sourced a new site in Winchelsea, but wouldn’t disclose its whereabouts to the meeting. It was requested that the Club write to Growing Winchelsea requesting support and indication of intent.

Jenny Mathison reported on the success of the screenings of the Dressmaker movie, which was shown at The Globe Theatre. It was attended by a total of 380 people and supported by local businesses whose advertising was shown on screen. A total of $3370 was raised. After expenses, a total of $2203 will be distributed to Barwon Park Promoters, The Globe Theatre and Growing Winchelsea Inc.

The showings were deemed a resounding success, and could be followed up with more shows in the future. A survey will be included in the Star to gauge peoples interest and movie genre.

Cr Heather Wellington will write to the Shire requesting funding for block-out curtains, to enable more daytime showings, after a volunteer took a fall off a ladder while attempting to block out sunlight to enable the movie to be shown.

A suggestion was made that the old bluestone bridge should be named. Lindsay Bennett has been in contact with the Wathaurong Aboriginal Co-operative, regarding a name. Their suggestion is Barraworn Napp, which means ‘bridge over Barwon’. It was suggested that we write to VicRoads and Council regarding the name.

Free RV parking by the Barwon River (in the area below the Catholic Church), is due to begin on April 1 for a trial period of 12 months. Surf Coast Shire Council has asked Growing Winchelsea to organise a committee to monitor the scheme. Names of interested people were to be submitted by Wednesday March 16. Those nominating at the meeting were Stu Fountain, Geoff Orchard and Jacqui Doyle.

Our next meeting will be on Wednesday April 13, 2016 beginning at 7am. Venue will be announced in forthcoming editions of The Star.

Movies in Winch?Following the successful showing of the Dressmaker movie at the Globe Theatre earlier this month, thoughts of holding regular movie showings in town have popped up.

If you have a longing for regular screenings in town, what type of movies would you like to see (old classics, children’s, family, foreign, shorts)? Why not let us know?

Either fill in the questionnaire and drop it in to the Star box at the IGA, or email to [email protected].

What type of movie would you like to see?

What time would suit you best?

What day?

The Foxes Den Cafe... more than meets the eyeThe Foxes Den Café, previously known as the Winchelsea Café, opened its doors on the 4th November, 2014. Elizabeth Leak and daughter, Caroline Wojtowicz decided that the town of Winchelsea needed a country, home style café full of home cooked food and fresh local produce. The Foxes Den is a real family business with Caroline’s sons, Joe and Zac working in the café as well as Elizabeth’s other daughter, Bronwyn Walker, assisting with the accounting side of the business. Many locals are also employed.

Since opening, Elizabeth and Caroline have renovated the café to give it the fresh, country feel they wanted. They have replaced the counter, added timber tables and chairs and given the walls a fresh coat of paint.

They offer a variety of food and beverages. The stand out beverage is the first class coffee. They also

sell homemade slices, sandwiches, beef and gravy rolls, salad boxes, and Elizabeth’s delicious homemade hamburgers, just to name a few. Caroline and Elizabeth also promote and utilize local produce such as tasty relishes and sauces, free range eggs and local fruit and vegetables.

Catering for private functions and local businesses is also a specialty provided. The most recent clients for Elizabeth and Caroline’s catering service has been the Bendigo Bank, Pastoral Pork, Hesse Rural Health, and Land Care. The feedback to staff was more than positive. The Foxes Den also subcontracts out to Suffren Contracting. This involves Caroline traveling up to the Northern Territory to cook 4 meals per day for the 15 to 35 road workers for 1-2 week intervals.

Caroline stated that business has grown remarkably since they opened up the café. This is not only due to the fresh, delicious country home style cooking they provide, but the strong community support they have received.

Caroline believes the council workers and tradies working in the growing town of Winchelsea have also helped the business grow. The great parking availability next to the café also temps travelers to stop for refreshments.

Caroline has many more ideas to expand the business which includes more external tables and chairs and a larger variety of home cooked meals. The external catering will no doubt also increase their business.

The trading hours are; Weekdays 6am – 5pm and weekends 7am – 4pmPictured below: Caroline (left) and Elizabeth.

Authorised by Sarah Henderson, 3A/195 Colac Rd Waurn Ponds Vic 3216

It is wonderful to see the township of Winchelsea sparkle following the opening of the duplicated road through from Waurn Ponds.

The works, including a new four lane bridge, provide locals and visitors to the historic town centre with easier and safer access. The Federal Government contributed $85.5m to the Princes Highway duplication between Waurn Ponds and Winchelsea.

The Turnbull Government is delivering record funding for roads including $185.5m for the duplication of the Princes Highway between Winchelsea and Colac. With the project well underway, construction from Deans Marsh Rd to Armitage Rd will commence mid 2016.

After much lobbying, I am delighted that NBN fast broadband will be under construction or available to more than 70,000 Corangamite homes and businesses by 2017.

Some great news on our NBN rollout with fixed line construction to commence in Winchelsea in the first half of 2016.

Construction of NBN for the outskirts of Winchelsea is expected to start in the first half of 2017.

With our government’s strong focus on growing smart jobs and the digital economy, this investment will open up a whole new world of opportunities.

NBN infrastructure is being provided at no cost; only monthly data and usage plan charges will apply.

Local job creation is my number one priority.

With the region’s unemployment rate below the national average, the Turnbull Government’s unwavering focus on jobs and growth is producing real dividends.

In 2015, more than 300,000 new jobs were created across the nation, the best job creation result since 2006.

Letter to the Editor Dear Editor

Congratulations to our member for Polwarth Richard Riordan for his speech in Parliament and his media release…. Supporting a better water storage in the Otways.

Although it is so dry at the moment and the Barwon River has stopped flowing… let us remember that after drought so often comes flood… water overflowing over our paddocks, fences, pastures and drowning precious stock. This has happened so often due to lack of proper water control. This water should be saved for the dry times and our river kept flowing from the storages.

So at last we have a leader with enough common sense to want to use the highest rainfall in Victoria. We don’t want to be paying for desalinated water from Gippsland, when we could augment our meagre supplies from West Barwon dam, which was only ever built to supply 6 months water per year for Geelong from a tiny catchment of about 12,000 acres of the Otways!! With another dam 3 times the size of the Dewing Creek. As Richard points out we paid for this site 25 years ago, and the storage has never been built!!

Think of the Otways with beautiful freshwater lakes, and fishing and fresh water in the Barwon for farming and our gardens. How lovely it would be.

It is a dream that could come true if we want it to.

Richard is keen to discuss how, as can be seen by his speech in Parliament. We need to have a meeting with him and support him. The time for such a meeting will be advertised.

Joan Makenzie.

Written by one of America’s brightest playwrights, 4000 Miles, playing at Colac Otway Performing Arts & Cultural Centre on Saturday, April 2, 8pm, is a compassionate and unsentimental play which explores a funny, frustrating and ultimately life-changing relationship.

Amy Herzog’s play is the story of a grandson learning to face his life, and a grandmother who is starting to forget hers.

Directed by award-winning director Anthony Skuse, 4000 Miles, which is touring nationally, stars Diana McLean remembered for dozens of roles in

iconic TV series such as The Young Doctors, Number 96, All Saints and Neighbours.

The fun begins when 21-year-old Leo (Stephen Multari) rocks up unannounced at his 91 year-old Jewish grandmother Vera’a Manhattan apartment at 3am.

With disarming frankness and surprising candour, the two negotiate social potholes and trace emotional fault lines that link them to a painful family history.

Reminder to act responsibly during duck season Game Management Authority (GMA) CEO Greg Hyams encourages hunters to act responsibly, observe all relevant laws and take the time to educate new and junior hunters.

“Hunters must be licensed, use non-toxic shot, adhere to bag limits and hunt only at those the times of the day when hunting is allowed,” Mr Hyams said.

“There are heavy penalties for failing to comply with the state’s hunting laws. For those hunters who choose to break the law, penalties could include fines, forfeiture of equipment used in the commission of an offence, conviction and the loss of Game and Firearms Licences.”

“Between June and December last year, the Game Management Authority cancelled the Game Licences of five hunters and we will have no hesitation in cancelling the Game Licences of those committing serious breaches of the law”, Mr Hyams said.

“In addition to losing their Game Licences, penalties for these offenders imposed by the courts included the forfeiture of firearms and other equipment, fines ranging between $750 and $4,500, costs awarded against them, four had convictions recorded and one had a community corrections order imposed for 220 hours of unpaid community work.”

The 2016 duck hunting season will open on Saturday 19 March at 7.10am in the eastern zone, 7.20am in the central zone and 7.30am in the western zone, and close half an hour after sunset on Monday 13 June.

The daily bag limit has been reduced to eight birds on the first day of the season and four birds per day for everyday thereafter. Also, the Blue-winged Shoveler must not be hunted in 2016.

Details of the 2016 duck season will be regularly updated on the Game Management Authority website www.gma.vic.gov.au

A service to celebrate the life of long time Winchelsea resident, Coral Munro, wife of the late Hughie Munro of Lloyds Lane will be held in the Uniting Church Winchelsea, this Tuesday March 22nd at 1.30pm.

Coral’s children Val, Neville, Rodney, Robyn and Helen and families will attend a private burial on Tuesday morning. The public Thanksgiving Service will be lead by John Bumford with special old hymns to be played before the commencement by Olive Bumford on the piano, will include readings shared by close friend Jeanette McConachy, and grand-daughters Larissa and Ella, and a homily and prayer offered by family

friend, and former Winchelsea resident, Pastor Frank Lowrey (Pastor of Aberdeen St. Baptist Church). The eulogy will be presented by, Grace Munro, a sister-in-law to Coral, followed by a pictorial tribute to honour the life of a lady so special to many in our town.

The service has been meticulously planned and written down by Coral herself, and includes 5 of her most favourite old hymns for all to sing. One of Coral’s greatest wishes was to “let the people speak”, which means as part of the service, an invitation will be extended to those present to share a story or special memory of Coral’s life for all to hear. Another of Coral’s stipulations was to make sure children were made especially welcome to come.

At the conclusion of the service, all will be invited to share afternoon tea provided by Coral’s special friends from the church in the church hall. Church ladies have also lovingly prepared a special series of floral arrangements for the occasion.

Winchelsea Garden ClubIt was wonderful to welcome four new members as we enjoyed an informative evening with Les Hunter sharing his vast knowledge of pelargoniums and geraniums. It was great to be able to bring home cuttings to pot up for future colour in our gardens.

At our next meeting on Monday 11th April we will be shown how to set up a hanging basket. If you would like to be a part of this please bring your own basket (just a small one please!) and plants of your own choice (herbs, foliage, fuchsias…so many choices!). The Garden Club will be providing potting medium so if this will be your first time at our meeting please let me know so we can get enough for everyone’s pots.

We meet at Winchelsea House at 7pm for a 7.30pm start on the 2nd Monday of the month. Come and meet us and have a cuppa.

For further information please contact Rosemary on 0458 667 229

Duplicated rail must be part of regional transport planLast week, in a speech in Parliament, Sarah Henderson, Federal Member for Corangamite, raised deep concerns about State Labor’s failure to develop one major infrastructure project in regional Victoria including the rail duplication project Geelong’s southern suburbs.

“I am pleased to announce that I have had discussions with the City of Greater Geelong and I will be fighting for some funding to support the city if it wishes to take up this project as the proponent, make a submission to Infrastructure Australia and do the required feasibility work.

We need better passenger rail services and second platforms at South Geelong, Marshall and Waurn Ponds stations. This vital piece of infrastructure would ensure greater capacity for more train services between Colac, Geelong and Melbourne”.

"And we never had a whole Mars bar until 1993"!!! CONGRATULATIONS TO ALL WHO WERE BORN IN THE 1930'S 1940'S, 50'S, 60'S

First, we survived being born to mothers who smoked and/or drank while they carried us and lived in houses made of asbestos.

They took aspirin, Bex, ate blue cheese, raw egg products, loads of bacon and processed meat, tuna from a can, and didn't get tested for diabetes or any cancer.

Then after that trauma, our baby cots were covered with bright coloured lead-based paints.

We had no childproof lids on medicine bottles, doors or cabinets and when we rode our bikes, we had no helmets or shoes, not to mention the risks we took hitchhiking.

As children, we would ride in cars with no seat belts or air bags, or in the back of a Ute.

We drank water from the garden hose, or a bubbler and NOT from a bottle.

Take away food was limited to fish and chips, no pizza shops, McDonalds, KFC, or Subway.

Even though all the shops closed at 6.00pm and didn't open on the weekends, somehow we didn't starve to death!

We shared one soft drink with four friends, from one bottle and NO ONE actually died from this.

We could collect old drink bottles and cash them in at the corner store and buy Toffees,

Bubble Gum and some ‘crackers’ to blow up frogs with.

We ate copious biscuits, white bread and real butter and drank soft drinks with heaps of sugar in it, but we weren't overweight because......

WE WERE ALWAYS OUTSIDE PLAYING!!

Out of school we would leave home in the morning and play all day, as long as we were back when the street lights came on.

No one was out looking for us all day. And we were O.K.

We would spend hours building our go-carts out of old prams. Or fruit boxes and ball bearings and then ride down the hill, only to find out we forgot the brakes. Our bikes had back pedal brakes, but only for as long as the chain stayed on. We built tree houses and dens and played in creek beds with matchbox cars.

We did not have a PlayStation, Nintendo Wii, X-boxes, no video games at all, no 999 channels on SKY,

No video/DVD films,

No mobile phones, no personal computers, no Internet or Internet chat rooms...........WE HAD FRIENDS and we went outside and found them!

We fell out of trees, got cut, broke bones and teeth and there were no Lawsuits from these accidents.

Only girls had pierced ears!

We ate worms and mud pies made from dirt, and the worms did not live in us forever.

You could only buy Easter Eggs and Hot Cross Buns at Easter time...

We were given air guns or cap guns, and catapults for our 10th birthdays,

We rode bikes or walked to a friend's house and knocked on the back door or rang the bell, or just yelled for them!

Mum didn't have to go to work to help dad make ends meet!

Football and Cricket had try outs and not everyone made the team. Those who didn't had to learn to deal with disappointment. Imagine that!! Getting into the team was based on

MERIT

Our teachers used to hit us hard with canes, straps and gym shoes.

The idea of a parent bailing us out if we broke the law was unheard of. They actually sided with the law!

Our parents didn't invent stupid names for their kids like 'Kiara' and 'Blade' and 'Ridge' and 'Vanilla' and ‘Lotus’

We had freedom, failure, success and responsibility, and we learned HOW TO DEAL WITH IT ALL!

And YOU are one of them! CONGRATULATIONS!

You might want to share this with others who have had the luck to grow up as kids, before the lawyers and the government regulated our lives for our own good.

PS -The big type is because your eyes are not too good at your age.

Can you remember these times too?

HAVE A GREAT DAY, John Bader.

We was brung up proper!!

Wednesday & Thursday from 9:30am Every second Saturday from 9:30am

Nail biting Grand Final win for Division Four.It was a cold day on the green at Colac Lake as Division 4 sought to win their first grand final after two previous attempts in the past three seasons. It was an extremely hard fought and tight match all day against very worthy opposition from Apollo Bay.

Coming into the last end of the day when two rinks were finished, Skip Julie Johnson made a crucial error of judgement in what could only be described as a moment of madness. With the match won by one shot she bowled her last bowl which as it was the last bowl to be played never needed to be played, knocked an opposition shot in and we were tied.

The procedure for a tied final is one more end is to be played by each rink so we went from victorious by one shot to absolutely under the pump on all rinks again. Many players had to unpack their bowls again in order to play the tie and I wished that a bolt of lightning might just happen to strike me down.

However, Winchelsea came through with all 3 rinks gaining a shot each and the Grand Final was finally ours by 3 shots. There was a great atmosphere at the clubrooms that night with finger food enjoyed by all present. Thanks very much to all the supporters who came to cheer us on over the day and braved the weather.

Winter recess is now upon us with only a few events to be completed at the club and at regional events.

All of the very best wishes go to Angie Littler and Jenny McConachy and Stewart Williams and Jason Armstrong who will represent the club in the Champion of Champions Pairs Tournament which will commence on the 2nd of April and conclude on the 10th April. May the bowls be with you!!!!
