Changed traffic conditions on Princes Highway between Waurn Ponds and Winchelsea VicRoads advises that during November traffic will be progressively moved onto the new sections of road on the Princes Highway between:

• Pettavel Road in Waurn Ponds and west of Cape Otway Road in Moriac

• west of the Geelong-Warrnambool railway bridge to Winchelsea.

Reduced speed limits will apply as contractors make changes to the road conditions, including moving traffic onto the newly constructed lanes, and also allow motorists to get used to the changed traffic conditions. The roadworks speed limit will then be raised to 60km/h or 80km/h depending on the location.

Please be aware of changed traffic conditions when travelling through the area and obey all roadwork signs and speed limits.

VicRoads thanks drivers for their continued patience during the Princes Highway duplication works.

People are encouraged to call 13 11 70 to report road hazards and to visit the VicRoads VicTraffic website and App which provides live traffic information about emergency road closures, traffic alerts, freeway travel time and traffic flow across the network.

2/ The helicopter is a squirrel which can be use with a fire water bucket. Another

role is to direct other helicopters such as “Elvis” on to fire areas.

3/ The last fixed wing aircraft is a twin engine push / pull Cessna which is used to map fires and plan fires from high up around the fire. Duration in the air can be up to 6.5 hours.

These are some of the aircraft which are commissioned for our summer fire season.

Dear Editor

I would like to congratulate Kate Lidgerwood and Family for the excellent tennis tournament that was conducted yesterday (23 November) at her parent’s property. The purpose was as a fund raiser for ‘One Tree Lover’, which is a non-profit foundation that funds the Green Garden Group in Kenya. There was much laughter as players played themselves into either the losers or winners sections, with rules being changed or added to as the games progressed into the finals. Thanks also to Lion Murray and his helpers with the Lions food trailer who once again served up their ‘burgers’.

I would also like to congratulate Mr Knuckey (Senior) who showed that he had lost none of his skills and then went on to umpire the finals.

I am looking forward to next year if yesterday tournament is an indication of what excellent organization and friendship can do at the local level.

Dear Editor

The value of regional responsibilities.

Letter from Simon Crean, Former Federal Minister and MHR for Hotham

In 2014 the importance and value of regional value and responsibility in country Victoria is stronger than ever and must be developed and supported at community and government levels.

As Federal Minister responsible in the past for regional development and the establishment of Regional Development Australia (RDA) I was proud to take action to directly support key projects in the Polwarth electorate region. These included funding for the Colac-Geelong highway duplication, upgrades for other regional roads such as Colac-Forrest, continuing environmental work along the Great Ocean Road, and in the education area support for school upgrades across Polwarth.

In Colac itself we directly supported the Colac Otway Trades Training Centre, the Young Health Hub, new surgical facilities at the Colac Hospital, and major upgrades of the Bluewater Fitness Centre and the Botanical Gardens.

In all these important local projects we worked closely with the community organisations involved to ensure that Government funding went to facilities that local people really valued.

In Polwarth Labor has a “local champion” as a candidate for the State election in Libby Coker who has demonstrated her local fighting values as a councillor and former mayor of the Surf Coast Shire Council. Libby is the Barwon south-west representative on the RDA Committee which supports communities from Geelong to Glenelg in funding regional projects and she also is the Victorian representative on the National Seachange Taskforce.

As a longtime supporter of regional development at a national level I urge you to give serious consideration to supporting Libby Coker as a proven “local champion” in her efforts to represent the people of Polwarth with real value at the coming State election.

Simon Crean

Greens confirm 5 trains a day at Mayoral train announcementLloyd Davies, Lead Upper House Candidate for Western Victoria. The Australian Greens Victoria. Cr Michael Neoh (Warrnambool City Mayor) invited all the candidates to Colac Train Station today at 9:30pm to pledge to introduce 5 services a day to the train line. All the mayors came and a number of candidates, including myself and Simon Northeast (Greens candidate for Polworth)

Greens candidate for Western Victoria Lloyd Davies says today’s government announcement is a tribute to the long-running community campaign to deliver additional train services to the Warrnambool line.

“The announcement of an extra daily service is a win for those across the south-west who have campaigned for better train services,” Mr Davies said.

“We hope Labor back the commitment. The Greens have committed to extra train services and now even the Liberals support it. It is time for Labor to make their position clear.

“This announcement is a step in the right direction and long overdue. We don’t understand why it took four years for the government to make this a priority, but we welcome the announcement,” Mr Davies said.

Extend wind farm approvals until 2020 Victorian Greens leader Greg Barber says Victorian wind farms approved but not yet built need an extension of time on their planning permits.

“There are permits for more than 2500 wind turbines in Victoria that have not yet been built and most of those will see their permits expire in the next term of government,” Mr Barber said.

“We need a commitment from whoever is planning minister that they will extend the life of all wind farm planning permits through to 2020.

“Wind companies have spent millions on studies and design to get their permits. We shouldn’t make them go through all that red tape again.

“Uncertainty about the Renewable Energy Target is the reason these turbines haven’t been built and that’s due to Labor and Liberal sending mixed signals,” Mr Barber said.

Funding Boost for Winchelsea Primary SchoolMember for Polwarth, Terry Mulder visited Winchelsea Primary School today to announce that if re-elected on the 29th November, funding of $30,000 would be provided to the school to undertake the replacement of school’s damaged roof guttering.

“I am aware that the School has been seeking funding to undertake these repairs for some time,” Mr Mulder said, “and I am very pleased to be able to make this commitment today.”

“The Principal, Karen Turner, School Council and the Winchelsea School community are all to be congratulated on the scope of works that have been carried out at the school over the past three or so years, which have been enabled by budget savings and fundraising.”

“Their commitment is evidenced by the support provided to the children with a Breakfast Club and financial assistance to students to enable them to attend camps and excursions.”

“Being able to repair this guttering will also prevent further damage to the school,” Mr Mulder said, “as it is important that pupils and teachers also have a healthy and safe environment in which to learn and work.”

“I trust that I will have the opportunity to visit Winchelsea Primary School next year when the installation of the new guttering is complete.”

Libby Coker Putting Our Families First In PolwarthWhy I am standing as a Labor Party candidate.

I love the Polwarth region where I have lived and worked for more than 27 years. As a second term Surf Coast Councillor and former Mayor, teacher, small business owner with roles in regional development and coastal advocacy, I have worked hard to represent communities and create an environment where people can prosper.

I want to give the people of Polwarth a clear choice at the next election. If people want more of the same - 18% youth unemployment and low educational attainment across the south-west, rising crime rates and use of the drug Ice, cutbacks in health and TAFE sectors, a lack of support for emergency workers - then re-elect the Napthine Government.

But if you want real representation on local issues, if you want someone who listens and responds, if you believe young people deserve the right to a job and educational choices even if they don’t live in the city, if you want to support the ambos and firefighters and you want to ensure that the environment and communities are cared for, then you should vote for the Labor Party.

I was proud and inspired on Sunday in Geelong to hear Daniel Andrews promise a practical and visionary program to improve education and job opportunities for all Victorian children. The proposed Geelong Technical School will benefit Winchelsea students as will funding for improved classrooms, and direct help towards the costs of school uniforms, excursions and camps, and breakfast programs for needy families.

I believe it is time for the people of Polwarth to make their voices heard and send a clear message to the Napthine Government that while Polwarth is a safe Liberal seat, they still expect action on the issues that are affecting their lives.

Only Labor is serious about communities reaching their potential.

Corangamite Financial Services Ltd (CFS) (owner of the Anglesea & Winchelsea Community Bank branches) yesterday declared a final dividend for the year ended 30 June 2014 of 6 cents per share - fully franked - representing a grossed up return to shareholders of approximately 7.8% pa.

The Board also announced the financial results for the year, citing a Pre Tax Profit of $142,791.

In addition to the strong shareholder return, Senior Manager Jeremy Morris said that CFS was pleased to have been able to contribute in excess of $100,000 back into the local community over the past year, in the form of sponsorships to various clubs and community groups (68 in total), particularly in light of the tough financial climate.

“It’s fantastic that in this current climate of margin tightening we have been able to maintain a sustainable return on equity to our shareholders, continue to support our local community and also consolidate our plans for longer term strategies” Mr Morris said.

Mr Morris went on to note that some strategies CFS has identified for coming years include: Working with the Surf Coast Shire and other community stakeholders to pursue the possible establishment of long

day childcare services in Winchelsea; Planning for a Regional Produce Expo to showcase local farmers and growers; Establishing a Community Bank presence in Inverleigh.

Mr Morris explained that the Board of Directors has resolved to sell the Moriac Community Health Centre building as part of its strategy to unlock equity to leverage into future projects. He said that the Board was pleased to have achieved its objective of returning health services to Moriac, and that the longevity of that service has been secured with Hesse Rural Health committing to a long term lease on the premises.

Chairman Vaughan Lamb addressed the audience and noted the company’s achievements over the past year, which included the establishment of a Community Bank agency in Lorne, and the purchase of a 28 seater bus that will be available for community groups to utilize across the district from December 2014.

The AGM saw the re-election of directors John Tebbutt, Robyn Erwin and John Knuckey, who retired by rotation.

CFS currently has approximately 27,000 shares available for purchase with an asking price of between $0.95 - $1.00. Enquiries regarding share purchases should be directed to Sue Lubcke, Executive Assistant on 0427 099410(BH).

Here’s what you NEED to know for your health, wellbeing and longevity! Vitamin D…what is it, and why is it so vital to our health!? Here’s the first thing about it you probably didn’t know , Vitamin D is actually a hormone.

Vitamin D cannot be produced by the cells in our body so it must obviously be obtained from an outside source , eg sunlight! Vitamin D can be made in your body by a protein that involves the conversion of cholesterol derivatives into Vitamin D using sunlight. Now you probably knew about the whole ‘sunlight’ thing that but did you know you need at least 15 minutes per day exposure to your arms and legs with no sunscreen or clothes, at a time of day that your shadow is not longer than you, to get this benefit!??

Like all steroid hormones, vitamin D is involved in the genetic regulation of the production of proteins and enzymes which are essential for wellness and prevention. Vitamin D promotes calcium absorption and maintains blood levels of calcium and phosphate for proper bone development and muscle action. Some of the other roles of Vitamin D are assistance in the regulation of cell growth, immune function, neuromuscular action, and regulation of inflammation. “… vitamin D both enhances the local capacity of the epithelium to rapidly produce endogenous antibiotics and, at the same time, dampens certain arms of adaptive immunity, especially those responsible for the signs and symptoms of acute inflammation.” Cannell et al. 2008 Cod Liver Oil, Vitamin A Toxicity, Frequent Respiratory Infections, and the Vitamin D Deficiency Epidemic. Annals of Otology, Rhinology & Laryngology 117 (11): 864-870

Vitamin D also assists the action of insulin and has been shown to have a significant role in cancer prevention. Many cells have Vitamin D receptors and many genes are influenced by the action of Vitamin D. In fact,

it has been estimated that the human genome has over 2700 binding sites for Vitamin D. from http://www.vitamindcouncil.org/about-vitamin-d/what-is-vitamin-d/) This is why being deficient in Vitamin D can lead to increased risk of many diseases, and, conversely why being sufficient in Vitamin D is essential for wellness and prevention.

The issue of vitamin D deficiency as a major causal factor in immune system related illnesses such as seasonal cold and flu, chronic illnesses such as heart disease and cancer, and atopic and autoimmune disorders like allergies and multiple sclerosis, has received a lot of attention in the last few years. Clinical journals as well as the mainstream media have been reporting evidence that modern industrialized humans are severely deficient in Vitamin D and that this deficiency is a major contributing factor to illness and lack of wellness and prevention.

How much vitamin D are you getting? Innate Choice is a company that creates only supplements that you can be ASSURED there is ample, valid scientific evidence showing that the nutrient is essential for human wellness and prevention AND that it is not attainable, or readily available, in industrial society. Here’s a little bit about their product.

Tuesday November 25, 2014 The Winchelsea Star 11

I would like to thank the people of Winchelsea and surrounds for their ongoing support over the years. The Winchelsea taxis have been around now for eight years and have become a common sight in the town and surrounds. Over the past year I have heard rumours that the taxi business has closed or is closing. I want to reassure the community that Winchelsea Taxis was never going to close and is alive and well, in fact we have a couple of new drivers who are keen to provide a great service to the people of Winchelsea. Our service is given with that little bit off extra personal care.

While there is a car and a bus based in Winchelsea and another car and bus in Bannockburn, to be sure of having your transport needs met, if possible, it is a good idea to pre book ahead by calling the number listed below. Your bookings can be sent by text, email or phone and they will be confirmed.

Winchelsea and Bannockburn Taxis are a stand-alone company and are not affiliated with any other taxi company. In addition to individual customer work we also do TAC, WorkCover, DVA, business accounts and

National Disability Insurance Scheme and Cabcharge work. Transfers to Melbourne and Avalon airports and Melbourne have become a large part of the work covered by the taxis.

A frequent question that I am asked is about any extra costs for picking up outside the area so I am taking this opportunity to inform people that there is no additional cost for picking up no matter where you are; costs are only incurred while you are in the taxi. All vehicles are late model, well maintained and air conditioned for your comfort.

Both buses have wheel chair hoists to allow people in wheelchairs access to the community and both are ten seater buses available for group bookings. We are keen to support all the sporting clubs in the area. With the full support of the community our taxis can grow with its demands.

Landy Field By Cooper Dalrymple - Year 1/2

On Tuesday my class and I went to Landy Field.

We had to go on a bus because we can’t just walk there. At the bus shelter there were three buses waiting for us.

At Landy Field there were hurdles, long jump, high jump, shot put, potato race, distance run and finally relays.

We all had fun.

Bollywood Dancing a hitAfter the great performance of dancers : Nihal Maremander –a male who choreographed his own dance. Neha Sing- the dance teacher, Sandy Benness, Anu Gill and Asra Mathison ; the 5 Bollywood dancers then proceeded to teach anyone willing to have a go, with instruction from Neha we all progressed quite well to put our steps to music. A small presentation and appreciation certificate was then given to the dancers as a thankyou for coming all the way to Winchelsea to perform. “A fun night” followed by a delicious supper.

Next week’s Morning Melodies (Thursday December 4th) in the Winchelsea Tea Rooms has once again attracted a bright new talent in Genevieve Dickson, a young up and coming Mezzo-Soprano with considerable success as a performer already, who is looking forward to her trip down the highway.

There is a moment of stillness at the end of a song, when the audience holds its breath, sighs as one and then claps. At age 4, after a ballet concert, Genevieve announced that she ʻloved it when they clappedʼ and she

has not looked back. Her art changed from dancing to singing. She won a scholarship for singing lessons while at high school and went on to complete a Bachelor of Music at Melbourne University. While at uni and studying with Vivien Hamilton, she sang with Early Voices, and performed the role of LʼArchitecture in Charpentierʼs opera, Les Arts Forissants. She also launched a concert series in the Yarra Valley, called the Aloysius Music Box, for herself and fellow students to display their talents and gain important performance experience. Since graduating Genevieve has been a member of the Opera Scholars Australia program, performing regularly at events such as Opera in the Alps and Opera in the Market and has performed with Melbourne City Opera in their production of Tosca and ʻThe Joan Sutherland Storyʼ concert. Her solo recital experience includes the Concerts at Coomalie in Healesville.

Touring Europe, she sang solo recitals at Recontres musicale en Eygalieres in France and Castello Della Serra in Italy. She was also selected to perform as a soloist in concert, by Yvonne Kenny, with whom she worked in Master Classes. Genevieve is currently learning from esteemed Melbourne singing teacher, Sally-Anne Russell, singing with Melbourne Opera. She has shown entrepreneurial enterprise establishing OPERAtion Quartet, a concert party presenting opera classics with 3 of her singer friends. She is scheduled to share the bill with David Hobson and Suzanne Johnston at this year’s Carols By Candle Light in Box Hill.

Genevieve’s silky smoothe voice is well suited to the program next Thursday which will include songs from popular shows – The Wizard of Oz and Porgy and Bess, some opera favourites from Bizet, Mozart and Rossini, and some simple folk songs, gentle to the ear.

Make sure and book for yet another in this ever more popular series showcasing the best of the next generation of Australian singing talent. Proceedings will start from 10.00 with a leisurely morning tea, with the music program from 11.00. John Bumford will accompany Genevieve on the grand piano. Contact Joan MacKenzie on 5267 2075 or 0407 506119.

Church NewsOn Sunday the 22nd many members of our Parish gathered over at St Joseph’s, Meredith for our annual Thanksgiving Mass. Recognition and a blessing were given to the many members who volunteer their time and energy to assist in the parish activities at the churches in our parish. Members of the Parish Team, Readers, Extraordinary Ministers, people involved in the church office at Meredith, Catechists, organisers of our data projectors and the music for our Masses, and many others. Father Herman also thanked John Bumford who attends St John’s Winchelsea on a Saturday evening to play the organ during our Masses. We do appreciate John and Olive’s involvement at St John’s, perhaps one day we may even have a choir at St John’s, and it just takes time.

While the weather was quiet warm, the trees provided great shade to sit around the tables and to enjoy the wonderful food that was provided. Meeting up with fellow parishioners also provided the opportunity to catch up and enjoy each other’s company.

With man activities coming around please take home the weekly bulletin that has the time and place for the many celebrations that are coming up.

This coming weekend, three children from Winchelsea will be confirmed at Holy Spirit Church Manifold Heights. We wish them many blessings.

Dates to remember: Paradise Club, will be held after school on Tuesday, December the 2nd from 3pm to 5pm. More Information next week. Come along to enjoy all of the activities prepared to help celebrate Christmas.

Inter Church Carols and Readings will be held at the Uniting Church on Sunday the 21st of December commencing at 7.30pm. While it is St John’s turn to hold the Service, it was decided by the Inter Church committee to hold the Service at the Uniting Church, since John provides the music etc; it would be more convenient for John during this busy time of the year. The program etc will be organised by St John’s.

Until next time, God Bless Marg Bushell

This week at St Thomas Church is Spring Fair week! Wednesday at 1 pm the Inter-church prayer meeting will be at St Thomas hall. Saturday November 29th St Thomas Spring Fair starts at 9am! So if you vote early come and buy a cake at the church fair or come around lunchtime and you won’t need to cook. Proceeds go to keeping our church running in this rural community and surrounding area. One of the people attending Kath Wilson’s funeral on Thursday remarked that we needed a larger church to accommodate the huge crowd who attended! While we have no plans to extend the church, keeping county ministry viable at all is an ongoing concern. So please come and support our fair and perhaps throw some wet sponges at Murray Aisbett or myself in the Convict stocks as we have some fun together! And just in case you are wondering any plans to repair the church are still on hold while we wait for the go ahead from the Architect and a source of additional funds for the restoration required.

Sunday November the 30th 11am Combined Church service at St Thomas’ with a “Bring and Share luncheon” to follow. If you are not a morning person and you find church services around 9am too early, well this is the week for you! Our combined service is at 11am; it’s also an opportunity to bring something to share and meet over a meal table after the service. We would love to welcome you all to come and worship our wonderful creator with us and thank him for all he has done for us! The service will be in the church!

Monday the 1st of December. Mainly Music at 10am in the hall.

Community Carols Mainly Music item Saturday December 6th. We are hoping to be able to take two items from our Mainly Music program to the Guides Community Carols. So if you and your children have been a part of this program, please tell me if you intend to attend the Community Carols so that we can know how many babes and toddlers we can expect to help us sing our songs and ring some bells together.

The Lord’s Supper: Why do we do this? At our family service we were investigating Holy Communion and asking the question,

“Why do we do this?” In doing so we looked at four special biblical meals, one of them being Communion (also called the Lord’s supper or even the Mass). Communion has some significant connections to the other three meals. The first special meal that we investigated was “The Passover” meal; this ritual meal, was initiated by God through Moses and we find the accounts in the Old Testament. At this meal the youngest child asks the oldest person that significant question, “Why do we do this?” The responder replies that the Passover meal was celebrated in order to remind God’s people that God had rescued them from slavery in Egypt. Amongst other items, the meal involved eating a lamb that had been ritually killed to remind them that the Angel of Death had passed over their homes sparing their children but only if their doors had been sprinkled with the blood of a lamb. This saving provision for God’s people is where the name Passover comes from as death passed over their homes punishing their oppressors but sparing the oppressed people and helping set them free from slavery. The second meal we investigated was “The Last Supper” when Jesus gathered around a table with his disciples to celebrate the Passover for the last time before his crucifixion and resurrection. During this meal Jesus initiated the celebration of the Lord’s Supper with this same idea of being a way of reminding his followers of their significant deliverance but this time it was from their slavery to sin and death. So Jesus told them that in the future whenever they ate the bread and drank the cup they were to remember his body broken for them and the blood he would shed on their behalf. In this meal he foreshadowed his sacrificial death and laid claim to being the ultimate Passover lamb whose death protects God’s people from the curse of sin and death. The fourth meal foreshadowed in the Lord’s Supper is something promised by God to happen at the end of time when God has restored his world and gathers all who trust in his salvation around his eternal banqueting table for a great wedding feast or party. Meanwhile he invites everyone to come but you have to RSVP, it would be the worst party to miss attending.

God bless, Rev’d Wendy Gravolin.

“I enjoy volunteering with the Delivered Meals Program. The opportunity to connect with people through delivering meals and having a chat is perchance of some comfort or benefit to those less able to be out and about - it is such a small amount of time (1.5 hours per month) to feel like you are contributing to your community in some small way” Helen Verity

Please Write For The StarThe Winchelsea Star welcomes YOUR news, information, articles and items for publication. This newspaper aims to reflect its own community.

Naturally, any article submitted for printing must comply with legal requirements such as for libel, discrimination, racism etc. Ideally, submissions fit within one page (allowing for adverts) and at most two pages. With a photo or two, this is around 700-800 words per page. Photos make for a much better article - please do not edit, crop or retouch photos, the Star team will do this as required. If you are able to ‘resize’ the photo(s), aim for around 1000 pixels (px) for the longest side. Many phones and computers can automatically resize photos when being emailed, be sure NOT to choose the small (or “email”) size as this is too small to use in a printed page. Note also that there is no need to submit carefully formatted and laid out

documents, as all formatting is stripped out when the article is imported into The Star. Please also note that any submissions in hard copy (ie. printed or hand-written) or ‘locked’ formats will incur delays as they have to be typed and/or scanned - the Sunday deadline applies to material that can be readily copied-and-pasted. Please send the article wordage separately from the article photos and images. In other words, when submitting an article, attach a document of words only and then also attach the associated images. Include image captions at the end of the article.

A grade 15/11/14 With many players out across the board, we had a few star recruits in to make a stance against this strong a grade side. Winning the toss and heading into bat Will Kelly and Jarrod Groves had the broad shoulders to lead the way. Shelford being the reining premiers, had an attack of tight sharp, bowlers, many wickets falling consistently was the problem. But Jarrod stood strong nearly batting out till the end. All out for 91 was not ideal with a fast scoring Shelford coming out to bat.

The partridge brothers, for a change had a good handful of runs hit off them. So we bought in the two young Mitchells to steam the ship. Shelford passing our score at the end of play was a bad end to the day.

The second week bought us back to the big stage bowling on a lovely cricketing day. Making a total of 188 they were set for the out right. Plenty of banter on the field led to an exciting arvo of with us 9 down and avoiding the out right.

22/11/14 A good day for winchelsea c.c against bell park. The visitors won the toss and elected to bat on a hot and humid day.

The visitors got off to a good start before winch pulled the momentum back into their favour grabbing quick wickets before drinks.

Once again the visitors got off to a good start after drinks but again winch it back having them 6 down by arvo tea.

Bell park came out strong after tea playing there shots and they grabbed some quick runs before prevailing and being all out for 136 by 45 overs.

Winch then went into bat for 22 overs and got off to a terrible start losing 2 wickets for 12 runs with Mick Groves and Dale Boyd being the batters to fall. Jarrod

Groves carried his bat with good support from fellow batsman Tom Stephenson. Winch ended the day on 2 for 56 giving them the upper hand going into the 2nd day, with a possibility of the outright win next week.

B grade 15/11/14 L.Hill and S. Kelly started the day we’ll, runs were flowing and a win was looking imminent. However, a lucky throw saw S. Kelly run out and winchelsea ‘ innings fell to pieces. Bowled out for 40 runs begin they tried to bowl anakie out again but to no avail. The day ended in a loss and a lot of batting practice to be done.

22/11/14 We drove out to bell park in high hopes to battle against the top side. Winning the toss we went out to bat in the warm, overcast, windy conditions.

A rough start with cheap early wickets had us on the back foot from the beginning. W. Kelly pitted along for many overs scratching together 28. A good late partnership between D Hampshire and T. Sauni got our score up to 117 until we lost our final wickets.

A short tally to chase and much more experience on turf than us had them in high hopes. A second ball wicket from T. Sauni was the highlight of our bowling innings. High winds, opening bowlers missing, not a great deal of experience led to a rough arvo on the field with Bell Park passing our score before end of play.

C grade 22/11/14 This week we made the trek to lethbridge who were sitting 2nd on the ladder at 6 wins 1 loss.they were pretty confident in there own ability and

won the toss and sent us into bat. they certainly underestimated the ability and determination of Sam Kell and Pricey. both withstood a barrage of short pitch bowling and verbal abuse. We all batted well and made 8/ 208 off our 40 overs. our bowling couldnt have started any better with Jye Price taking a wicket with the 1st ball of their innings. We all bowled well and fielded great to win the game keeping lethbridge to 9/ 150 off there 40 overs. Great win boys...

U/13s This week was our 2nd week at st peters. we worked hard in the 1st week to be 3 for 74 whilst they were 2 for 113, this week we showed great improvement in every faccet of cricket and had st peters 7 for 166. that means we took 5 for 53 this week off 26 overs which every player should be proud of. we ended up 8 for 119, and although we didnt win the game, we won in so many other ways.this week we have a bye and are having a kids versus parents game and we would love to see you all there for a bit of fun and a bbq with our future stars... well done boys

Next week On Saturday the 29th of November we are holding our second function for the year. The Ipod Shuffle night will commence at 7pm. Since 1977On Tuesday November 18, the Eastern Reserve function room hosted the Winchelsea Drug and Mental Health Forum.Facilitated by Growing Winchelsea, this was the first in a series of community forums that the newly merged community group is looking to host, focusing on issues affecting our community. This forum focused on the issues of drugs and mental health, which are huge problems concerning not only our community, but every community around the world.

Our forum mediator, local policewoman Sgt Janet Gleeson (Victoria Police), welcomed our first speaker, LSC Robbie Noggler, Youth Resource Officer Western Region Division 1. Based in Geelong, Robbie spent 21 years in ‘reactive policing’ meaning that he responded to triple O calls when things got out of hand. He has now moved to ‘proactive’ policing and works closely with youth and schools in the Geelong region. In his role, he comes face to face with the issue of drugs, in particular ICE, in his words, ‘too regularly’. His presentation on ICE looked at how drugs affect the brain. Robbie’s presentation was educational, powerful and confronting. In his words “how any one can put this stuff in their body amazes me!’ Following on from Robbie was Tony McManus of Beyond Blue. Tony established one of Geelong’s most successful real estate firms… life was looking good. However, in 2005 everything changed when Tony’s brother Mick took his own life while at the same time, Tony was seeing a psychiatrist to deal with his own depression and anxiety. This led to Tony being passionate supporter of Beyond Blue. As a Beyond Blue ambassador, Tony shares his story of depression and recovery, and the suicide

of his brother to encourage others to take action to get help for depression and anxiety.

A big thank you to the Lions Club of Winchelsea for the BBQ, Beyond Blue, Victoria Police and the volunteers who helped set up and pack up after the forum.
