COFFEEHOUSE IS COMING!
Saturday, October 8th!
St. Mary will launch its very own coffeehouse. The kick-off event will start at 7:00 pm, and will feature live music and, of course, goodies to eat and drink, including—of all things—coffee! Please join us in celebrating our “grand opening”, and bring the entire family! Friends and neighbors are welcome too.

TRIVIA NIGHT Come join the fun at St. Mary Parish Trivia Night, on
Saturday November 5th
. Ten rounds of entertaining questions
focusing on general trivia. The cost is $120 for a table of
eight (or $15 per person) and includes beer, wine, water, and
pizza. So gather your friends, family and neighbors to join us
on a fun filled night. Registration forms will be in next
week’s bulletin.
LEAVING FOR THE WINTER SEASON If you are planning on leaving for the winter season,
please call the parish office as soon as possible. We would
kindly like to know the dates you will be away so that we can
hold your Sunday contribution envelopes. As you know, our
envelopes are mailed directly to you from another company,
thus we will save on mailing costs during the time frame that
you are away. Thank you!

KROGER IS TEAMING UP WITH
ST. MARY CATHOLIC SCHOOL Mrs. Susan LeVesseur will be at Kroger at Chilson RD.

, between 4:00 and 6:00pm to sign up
any and all people for Kroger Cards. If we can get 50 or more
new people, the school can earn 5000 free Labels for
Education points thru Campbell soup! If you shop at Kroger
or think that you might like to shop at Kroger or know someone
who might like to shop at Kroger (do I need to go on?)…Let’s
sign up. It’s a win, win situation. When you shop at Kroger,
you get discounts on gas at Kroger, you get money off your
tuition thru the Script program, and you help the school out at
the same time! Does is get any better than that? Once you sign
up, you can shop at any Kroger. If you don’t have a child at St.
Mary Catholic School, you can still help out. Kroger will
donate a percentage of your purchases back to St. Mary
Catholic School and we put that money into a Tuition Angel
account to help with tuition for any school family. The best

BOX TOPS FOR EDUCATION St. Mary Catholic School collects all Box Tops for
Education. Each box top is worth $.10 to our school. You can
find them on a number of things from Bisquick to Kleenex
tissues to cereal to cake mixes. It is like finding loose money on
the ground; all those little $.10 add up real fast. You can turn
them in at the school office at any time. If the office is closed,
just put them on the counter thru the window. Box top money
helps pay for assemblies that enhance the children’s
education. We greatly appreciate any help you can give.

SO WHY DO WE DO THIS? UNDERSTANDING THE WHY AND HOW OF THE MASS…
Many of us know the prayers and movements of the Mass,
but many people are unaware of why we do these
things. Sometimes we just go through the motions not
realizing the miraculous gift from God that is taking place
before us on the Altar. When we understand things more
deeply they bring the experience more to life in our being.
In October we will begin our Café series of Adult Faith
Formation on the Mass. Café classes will be on Tuesday
evenings from 6:30-8:00pm on October 11, 18, 25, and
November 1st. We have a sign-up sheet in the gathering space
for anyone interested in attending. The series will be in the
church and our hope is to give our parishioners a deeper life-
changing experience of receiving the Eucharist. We are
asking for $10.00 to supplement costs for attendee’s materials.
You can drop off the money at the parish office. I hope to see

MEN'S CLUB ANNUAL
ROAST BEEF DINNER
On October 23, 2011, St. Mary’s Men’s Club is sponsoring
its annual Roast Beef Dinner. We will be serving from 12:30-
6pm. Our delicious all-inclusive menu includes Roast Beef,
mashed potatoes and gravy, green beans, tossed salad,
homemade dinner rolls, ice cream & homemade cake. Price is
$10 adults, $9 seniors, $5 children 12 to 6 (under 5 free) with
a family price (immediate family only) of $30. Take-out is
available. We will be selling pre-sale tickets before and after
Mass on October 8th and 9th at which tickets will be offered
at $1 off face value. This is a major fund raiser for our
organization which allows us to continue to serve the needs of
our Parish Community. Give Mom a Sunday off and join us
for a great meal and fellowship.

Join Us On Retreat It’s time for the women of St. Mary Parish to think about getting away for a weekend. You don’t have to cook, clean, or do laundry. You can sleep, read and
listen to enriching talks to intensify your faith. The theme for this year is "Are We There Yet?" I’m sure you’ve heard this from your children or felt it yourself on a long trip. We’re on a journey to become closer to God and this weekend can help you on your path. Consider coming along with us, no one will be turned away for their ability to pay.
Where: St. Paul of The Cross Retreat Center, 23333 Schoolcraft, Detroit, MI, When: October 28th 6pm to October 30th 12pm (noon) We car pool and no one has to drive alone, unless they want to. The suggested gift is $160, but that is not mandatory.

Is God calling you to the Love INC
Ministry? Are you looking for a 3-4 hour
commitment, once a week in assisting
families during their time of distress? The
office of Love In the Name of Christ, Love
INC, is in need of morning and afternoon
volunteers to answer the phones from 9:30-12:30, or 1 pm-3pm
Monday-Thursday. We will soon be open on Fridays, and those
same hours need to be filled. You may choose your day and
time to volunteer. Love INC provides orientation and training.

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED! On the weekend of November 12 & 13, 2011, Livingston
County Catholic Charities (LCCC) will kick off their annual
Loaves & Fish Appeal. This special project has always been a
tremendous undertaking; however, thanks to many wonderful
volunteers, the workload is considerably lighter.
The mailing packets will be assembled in the LCCC
conference room at 2020 E. Grand River #104, Howell on the
following dates:
October 17, Monday: 10am – 2pm
October 19, Wednesday: 10am – 2pm A light lunch will be provided at each session. Please contact
Julie at LCCC by October 10th at 517-545-5944 and leave a
message as to which session/s you can help. Whether you can
join us for an hour or the whole time, please know that we truly

Friday, October 7th AQ Days are here for prospective high school juniors and
seniors considering Aquinas College. The Admissions Office
invites those students who are interested in fine arts, such as
instrumental and vocal music, art, and theater, to visit the

Altar Flower Arrangements: There is a sign-up chart in the gathering space - choose
the weekend you will provide the arrangement and write your name and names of person/s to be remembered - we would like one arrangement each weekend. We have contracted Country Lane Flowers in Howell to make the arrangements and deliver! Orders must be made by Monday or Tuesday for delivery to the church by Friday. Please call Country Lane Flowers at 517-546-1111 and speak with Libby to place your order. The approximate cost is $45 and up plus $9.95 delivery fee. You may take the flowers home with you after the 11:30am Sunday Mass.
Votive Candle Memorial: We are making available 7-day votive candles that will be lit in your loved one’s honor or for a special intention. The cost of this candle will be $15.00, since it will be burning for a full 7 days.
10 PART DVD SERIES @ HOLY SPIRIT CATHOLICISM: JOURNEY AROUND THE GLOBE &

Beginning Sunday, October 9th at 3pm, you will travel the
globe while, on DVD, Fr. Barron explains what Catholics
believe and why - using art, architecture, literature, music and all
the riches of the Catholic tradition, to tell a visually arresting and
inspiring story. This is the Catholic story told from the inside,
with knowledge, sympathy, passion and rooted in friendship
with Jesus Christ.
Fr. Barron is an award winning author of 9 books on
Catholicism, creator of 5 DVD's, 25 You Tube reviews of
American culture and hundreds of podcast sermons. A priest of
the Archdiocese of Chicago, he currently holds the Francis
Cardinal George Chair of Faith and Culture at the University of
St Mary of the Lakes/Mundelein Seminary. General seating is

DEBT REDUCTION We give a special Thank You for the continued support of
our building fund which includes; Debt Reduction, FaithQuest
and FaithScape. Any money collected for the building fund goes
directly to the Diocese of Lansing to pay down our debt of 7
million dollars. We appreciate your faithful support and
commitment to our parish.
If you currently are not receiving envelopes and would like
to, contact the parish office. Extra “Debt Reduction” envelopes
are available on the table in the hallway near the gathering space.
It is easy to set up monthly (or weekly) automatic bank
withdrawals for the Building Fund and/or Sunday contributions.
The enrollment form can be downloaded from the parish web

Stewardship Corner: In the Gospel today, the owner of the vineyard sent messengers to
collect his share of the harvest from the tenant farmers, but there was not a single good steward on the property! God is the owner, we are the
tenants. What sort of stewards are we?

Bring your personal calendar and sign-up for once or twice a month during the current 4 month period and put these self selected dates on your personal calendar.
