MISSION STATEMENT: To encounter Christ through the Eucharist and answer His call to holiness.

To carry out our mission, we:

- follow in the footsteps of Saint Peter and Ven. Bishop Baraga in our commitment to proclaim the Gospel message of Jesus Christ and make disciples of all nations through evangelization and Catholic faith formation; - are committed to prayerful lives and fostering participation in Eucharistic Adoration and other liturgical devotions; - welcome and serve our community, especially the less fortunate and one another.

Dear Cathedral & St. Mary Mission Family,

With this Second Sunday of Lent, we continue our Lenten

journey with Jesus, seeking to grow as His disciples.

Last Sunday’s Rite of Election here welcomed

Catechumens (those unbaptized) and Candidates from

across the Diocese. It’s always encouraging to see how

many are seeking to become fully Catholic! Two of our

own Candidates, Scott Kalishek and Dawn White, were

impressed by this as they participated. Now

catechumens are referred to as the Elect and Candidates

are called on to continuing conversion along with all of

us… Please keep them in prayer!

This past week we met with a representative from the

company Guidance in Giving, who will be helping us do a

Capital Campaign for our Cathedral in coming months.

As I have mentioned before, its goal is to fund the

renovation of the Cathedral bell towers, to eventually

replace the boilers for heating, and upgrade our sound

system for recording and broadcast as well as hearing

impaired support. This will be a three year campaign

with a goal of $1 million dollars, providing for the future

of our beautiful Cathedral. You will be hearing more in

months ahead!

Welcome to Fr. Benny Mathew from Kerala, India, who

arrived here this past week! He is a member of the

Missionary Society of St. Thomas, and was ordained to

the priesthood in 1998. He has served in various

positions in India and in several parishes. He will be with

us for a time of orientation, so please welcome him as

you meet him! God bless you and yours these days!

In the Hearts of Jesus and Mary,

Rev. Msgr. Michael Steber

Jesus took Peter, James, and John his brother, and led them

up a high mountain by themselves. And he was transfigured

before them; his face shone like the sun and his clothes

became white as light. And behold, Moses and Elijah

appeared to them, conversing with him.

Then Peter said to Jesus in reply,

“Lord, it is good that we are here. If you wish, I will make

three tents here, one for you, one for Moses, and one for

Elijah.”

While he was still speaking, behold, a bright cloud cast a

shadow over them, then from the cloud came a voice that

said,

“This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased;

listen to him.”

When the disciples heard this, they fell prostrate and were

very much afraid. But Jesus came and touched them, saying,

“Rise, and do not be afraid.”

And when the disciples raised their eyes, they saw no one

else but Jesus alone. As they were coming down from the

mountain, Jesus charged them,

“Do not tell the vision to anyone until the Son of Man has

been raised from the dead.”

— the Sunday Gospel, Mt 17: 1-9

“RESURRECTION BASKET” LENTEN PROJECT Our very successful Resurrection Basket Project is upon us. Over the past years, we have been able to collect cleaning supplies that fill many, many Laundry Baskets. This, as you know, is no small gift. Two big and important items are toilet paper and laundry soap plus other important items for cleaning. Everyone needs to do spring cleaning. If you are financially not able to do a complete basket, that is fine, every gift is appreciated. Bring your gift to church and place it in the basket. Pope Francis never ceases to talk about giving to others and what better time to do just that? Giving when you get nothing in return is the best kind of giving and you as a community have done just that over the many years. —Sister Ludmilla Gramann

“LIFE NOTES” from Monsignor Michael

Supreme Court to hear oral arguments in challenge to

Louisiana’s law requiring abortionists to have

admitting privileges

WASHINGTON – An hour-long oral argument inside the

Supreme Court Wednesday (March 4) could go a long way

toward reversing abortion rights in the United States.

On Wednesday, March 4, the Supreme Court will [have heard] oral arguments about Louisiana’s 2014 Unsafe Abortion Protection Act (Louisiana Act 620). As Louisiana Right to Life put it succinctly, “It is time the Supreme Court ends loopholes for abortion businesses!”

What, in fact, does Louisiana’s 2014 Unsafe Abortion Protection Act require? “The Act will require abortion providers to have admitting privileges within 30 miles of a local hospital. … Louisiana law requires surgeons in facilities classified as ‘ambulatory surgical centers’ to have admitting privileges at local hospitals so that the physician can admit and treat his patient if an emergency arises. The proposed law would require the same standard for surgical abortion providers.”
