Dear Parishioners of Our Lady of Sorrows,

I have been your Pastor for about a month now. As you probably expect, I will be doing things a bit differently. With any change in leadership there will be changes in administration. I wanted to alert you to a significant change in our parish administration. Deacon Brent who has been our parish Bookkeeper/Accountant will be taking on more duties and responsibilities. His new job title is that of Parish Manager. The Parish Manager serves as a staff resource in support of the Pastor, fulfilling parish administrative needs in finance, buildings and grounds and personnel. Together, the Pastor and the Parish Manager form the core management team that ensures that the pastoral and temporal needs of the parish are sustained. Cathy Ball is a member of our Pastoral Staff who administrates Faith Formation. She will continue to work together with myself as the Pastor in the areas Religious Education, Sacramental Programing, Youth Ministry and Adult Faith Formation. Cathy also works in the area of outreach and service to the poor and disadvantaged. We thank her for her tireless efforts! As the deacon of the parish, Deacon Brent will provide pastoral assistance to myself and Cathy as needed. In keeping with his role as a deacon of the Archdiocese, Deacon Brent will continue to function sacramentally, liturgically and pastorally as appropriate. As a member of the Support Staff, Dee Wittschack provides invaluable service to the parish in a multitude of ways. We are grateful to her for her continued faithful service to the parish. The Parish Secretary is often the first contact a person has with the parish. Dee fulfills her role with dedication and a smile! I have been asked frequently how I like being here in "South County." I want you to know that while it is a big adjustment for me (and for you), I am very happy to be with you! I will always give you the best service I have to offer! God's Blessings on us all! Father Tim

Message from Tracey’s Elementary School Last year we started a mentoring program with another local church and we are hoping to expand that this year. We are looking for adult volunteers that would be willing to come to school during lunch hours and meet individual-ly with a student in need of a positive role model. If you think you might be interested, please contact Jennifer Foster, Tracey’s School Counselor at 410-222-1633.

Shoe Recycling Efforts...Still Ongoing Tennis Shoes are in high demand right now! Keep cleaning out your closets and looking under your bed for gently used shoes. Every pair you recycle means extra funds for us and less landfill waste. Collection boxes will be in the main entrance to the church. The Parish Council continues its work with Community Recycling and their ShoeBox Recycling program, whose mission is to help promote the importance of shoe recycling while giving partners an opportunity to fundraise to further their own efforts. We are collecting gently used shoes for reuse, meaning all the shoes we recycle as a group are destined for another home. From South America and Africa to areas right here in the United States, our ShoeBox Recycling efforts will go to help people and communities in over 50 countries. And what’s even better are the many ways that our community benefits as well. Not only will your recycled shoes help the church raise funds, it will also help keep usable shoes out of our local landfills. For more information contact Pete Ball 301-643- 0933 or Cathy Ball 410-206- 1762.

It is time to stock up our Food Pantry for the Holiday Sharing Program to

Help our Community with the Thanksgiving & Christmas Baskets.

Please bring non-perishable food items to church and contribute to the poor box.

Thanksgiving Baskets will be put together on Friday

evening, November 18th and Saturday morning, November 19th. Please call/email (410-867-2059 or

[email protected]) the Parish Office if you can help, or return this sign up slip. Sign up sheets are also at the

church entrances. Thank you.

Genesis to Jesus: What is the Bible, where does it come from and what is its purpose? How are Catholics supposed to read the Bible and what story does it have to tell? We start with the creation story and Noah’s ark, and trace the history of salvation as it unfolds in the series of covenants that God makes with His chosen people - from Abraham to Moses and finally to King David. We see how this history reaches its climax and fulfillment in Jesus and the Church. Classes will be offered at OLOS on Sundays at 11:45am (starting Sunday, October 2) and Tuesdays at 7pm (starting Tuesday, October 4). Pre-registation is required ($12 fee for materials). Contact Cathy Ball at [email protected] or 410-867-1941 x14 for registration.

Joyful Noise Gospel Concert Sit back and enjoy parish choirs and local bands/trios/soloists who sing for the sole purpose of praising our Savior. Join us at 6:30pm on Saturday, October 8th at Southern High School. $5 ticket; family rate available. The event is sponsored by the South County Faith Network, a non-profit working to improve the lives of the senior and disabled adults in South County. For more information, please email [email protected] or phone 410.206.1762.
