Letter from the Editor }}
“The 2015 PHOENIX magazine editorial calendar you’re holding reflects that one-two punch of the familiar and unexpected.”
Planning our yearly editorial calendar is an exercise in balances for the staff at PHOENIX magazine. On one hand, we want to give readers the cover stories and perennial features we know they want – the 52 Weekends, the Top Docs, the Best of the
Valley, etc. Those are some of our most popular and well-read issues, year in and year out.
On the other hand, we also want to explore new territory. Fresh ideas. Untested concepts. So every year, we alternate the blue-chip issues with bold one-offs like Secrets of the City, the Old West issue, and our Arizona Wine Country guide. Dynamic journalism for a dynamic readership.
The 2015 PHOENIX magazine editorial calendar you’re holding reflects that one-two punch of the familiar and unexpected. In April, for instance, we have Top Docs – our most popular issue. We set the bar pretty high in 2014, breaking the 400-page barrier with what proved to be our largest issue ever. Our team is excited to outdo itself with the 2015 Top Docs, but we’re also looking forward to March’s Valley Cocktail Guide, and September’s Arizona Wheels feature – both opportunities to reach new readers and expand our presence in the Valley’s collective media landscape.
Of course, in every one of the issues described herein, you’ll also find PHOENIX magazine’s award-winning dining and travel writing, feature news reporting, and coverage of Valley growth and healthcare issues. Speaking of the latter, we’re launching a brand new product in 2015: the PHOENIX magazine Health Services Guide, a comprehensive listing of physical therapists, chiropractors, athletic trainers and other vital, non-medical health providers in the Valley. It’s a much-needed bookend to our annual Medical Directory, and proves positive that PHOENIX magazine serves Valley readers like no other.
