Youth With A Mission Los Angeles is part of Youth With A Mission International -- a non-profit Christian missions organization with over 1300 operating locations in over 180 countries. We are international and interdenominational and work to know God and make Him known. YWAM LA is one of the first operating locations. VISION STATEMENT: A discipling community called and committed to serving in our LOCAL AREA, in our REGION, and in SPECIFIC NATIONS through innovative expressions of Jesus’ Kingdom. WINTER 2012 NEWSLETTER Our New Vision Statement Over the past several months, our staff have processed and asked God for a clear and defining mission statement for YWAM LA. The overall Mission Statement consists of several components including a Vision Statement, Objectives, and Core Values. It has been a challenging, yet exciting several-stage process. Stage one focused on defining our ministry goals that are in line with the Great Commission. As a unified community, an overarching Vision Statement emerged with three target areas that will be YWAM LA’s focus of ministry and resources. Each target area is supported by four to five specific, measurable objectives that allow us to focus our ministry efforts. We completed this stage in December 2011. We are currently in the second stage consisting of forming the various teams who will implement these objectives. These staff ministry teams will provide the necessary prayer support, continuity, and accountability needed to achieve and sustain long-term ministry goals and success. Each team will create its own plan and timeline to achieve the various objectives. One of YWAM’s core values is the concept of working in “teams” which we have learned is the best means to accomplish long term success. The third stage consists of defining what it means to be a “discipling community” by identifying and articulating our core values as a ministry. This will be completed by the end of June 2012. If you’re interested in receiving a copy of the specific objectives for each target area please email us at: [email protected] . Winter 2012 TDTS Outreach TeamsIn April, 33 students and eight leaders will travel to five different countries on outreach for three months. These teams will work with long-term initiatives and strategies to impact these nations. The teams will participate in evangelism, practical ministry and assisting with the needs of churches and ministries.

Please pray that God will provide the finances, the visas and the open doors for ministry for each of these teams.

To donate to a team or student please visit this link through Mission Enablers International: https://www.meigiving.com/YWAMLA/form/form.php

The TDTS code is B8000. Please indicate the name of the team or student to whom you are giving.

Circuit RidersJohn Wesley traveled 250,000 miles on horseback and preached 45,000 Gospel messages. His follower, Francis Asbury, was inspired and recruited a group of radical young men willing to give their lives to ride and bring the Good News to the most remote parts of the American Frontier.

300 years later, a new call has gone out for young men and women who want to passionately pursue God’s calling in their generation. We are inviting anyone who shares this vision to join us. Together we can: SAVE the lost, REVIVE the saved and TRAIN them all. Circuit Rider schools are being held in six locations across the US and England this summer. YWAM LA is thrilled to be hosting this program from June 17 - 30, 2012.

Our South Africa Team from the Fall 2011 TDTS is hard at work building a home in White River, South Africa. They have partnered with Ten Thousand Homes, a ministry committed to providing “HOME” and “HOPE” for children orphaned by HIV/AIDS (www.tenthousandhomes.org).

The team raised the $5,000 to build the home and then had to wait on God’s timing to show them the perfect family and the perfect location for this home. After much prayer, not only did God provide a property for the house, but also, all of the materials arrived on time. Their hard work is creating a physical space for this family in need to establish the sense of belonging that a stable home can provide. The team has offered far more than manpower for construction. This family has already been flooded with prayers and the team is demonstrating love in every interaction.

While the YWAM LA team returns to LA in March, Ten Thousand Homes will continue to provide the on-going support for this family. Their hope is to transform an entire generation of children affected by HIV/AIDS, one home at a time.

Building a Home in South AfricaFrom the Students:How is this school different from other schools you’ve done?

“This school is different in many different ways. I've never been in such a positive learning environment where Christ is the priority. We are encouraged and instructed in our walks with God daily and able to put it into action. The love and compassion of this school sets a strong foundation for transformation that I'm already witnessing: To know Christ and to make Him known. We are truly in the process of knowing Christ and making Him known not only in Los Angeles, but to the nations.”

Shiane Elford, TDTS

“Jesus is actually the main focus and not the curriculum. We are encouraged to be who we were designed to be. We are led by the Spirit and discipled on how to live in the fullness of Christ. And we learn how to pursue our own personal in t imate relationship with the King of Kings and Lord of Lords”

Andrew Michael Garrison, TDTS

“This school has a lot more  emphasis  on finding answers to questions yourself and getting a solid/personal foundation.”

Shanie Paddon, CBCC

A Word from Our Director Even though we are technically in the middle of Winter (while wearing shorts and sandals), there are new things springing up everywhere at YWAM LA. On page one, we introduced a large part of our new Mission Statement and there is more to come in our next publication. That process took most of last year with the goal to have it ready by the middle of 2012. During our Legal Board meeting, we introduced YWAM LA’s first comprehensive Financial Statement along with a current and accurate Profit & Loss Statement. Our new bookkeeping and accounting system is working, allowing us to produce up-to-date, accurate records that will qualify us for a financial audit.

Currently, we are halfway through two brand new training schools that we’re pioneering on our campus. A third school is starting in June and we are re-pioneering a Spring TDTS on our campus.

Less than a month ago, I was in North Africa with one of our teams that is now performing eye exams in remote mountain villages. Using simple technology, they are bringing healing and hope to the unreached. Each TDTS outreach team is leaving something tangible behind including a home in South Africa, mattresses in India and skateboards for youth in Chile. As our outreach teams are reporting back to us and as we’re praying for the nations of the world, there is a new urgency for us to take our mandate to Disciple the Nations more seriously than ever. As part of our calling to serve new YWAM expressions in the region, we are busy operating as midwives to our brothers and sisters whom the Lord is calling to serve alongside of us in this huge region. We are so blessed, can hardly keep up but it’s all so good. Please keep praying and giving of your resources as we pray and keep giving of ours. We couldn’t do it without you. I mean it.

Werner Pfau was commissioned as Director of YWAM LA in September 2010. Originally from Germany, he first came to YWAM LA in 1988. His passion for seeing young people reach all nations for Christ is reflected in the international culture he facilitates on the base. He, his wife - Julie, and three daughters live on the base and would love to share more of the vision God has laid on their heart with you.
