Through mostly public votes, Thetha FM was among the top community radio stations to be recognised for its hard work. The stati- on’s ‘Lefa Pheto Gospel Tunes’ programme hosted by acclaimed Reverend Lefa Pheto was awarded for being the best for the se- cond time in a row. Last year it also received the same prize. During an exclusive inter- view with Sedibeng Ster, Pheto was ecstatic and said: “I have finally prevailed, being the best among the best, but it could only have happened through the grace of God. SEDIBENG.- The Municipal DemarcationBoard (MDB) will consider new municipalboundary proposals for redeterminations onlyafter the 2016 municipal elections followinglast month’s communication of its final deci-sion on the cases submitted for consideration.MDB chairperson Landiwe Mahlangu

says, “It was quite comforting to read aboutthe Eastern Cape Acting Premier PhumuloMasualle pronouncing on discussions that aretaking place to reduce the number of munici-

palities to ensure efficiency, viability andsustainability. This effort is not taking place in the Eastern

Cape but includes other provinces where theMDB has recently interacted with the localSALGA structures on similar challenges.” Headds that in as much as discussions are takingplace, the only changes are those on whichthe board has taken a decision that was com-municated last month. Any other proposalwill only be considered by the board after the2016 local election. The MDB recently an-

nounced that the Emfuleni Local Municipali-ty, Midvaal Local Municipality and SedibengDistrict Municipality be incorporated andform aMetropolitan City. The MDB has alre-ady given information to the IndependentElectoral Commission (IEC) for it to com-ment on the impact of the Board’s decisionand will soon be embarking on a ward delimi-tation process, part of which will be to ensurea smooth transition of the affected municipa-lities to effectively function on the first dayof the actual implementation.

VEREENIGING. - Rife rumours have beenconfirmed that Democratic Alliance (DA)Ward 15 Councillor Puleng Skelem has re-signed from the party. An unconfirmed ru-mour was that she is about to cross the floorand tie the knot with African National Con-gress (ANC). Her resignation has left theDA without a choice but to get ready forby-elections.When confronted to put the record

straight, she asked Sedibeng Ster to wait un-til later. ‘I still have to meet with my em-ployer to put the facts on the table.’ She didnot want to elaborate further on rumoursthat she has been promised a better posi-tion in the ANC office of the SedibengDistrict Municipality.Sedibeng Ster can confidently con-

firm that the councillor is under pressure af-ter being approached by the ruling party.A reliable source told Sedibeng Ster that

Skelem decided to jump from the movingwagon before it was too late. A source reve-aled that a meeting held behind closed doorswith the party had brought a smile to herface. This is after she was made a big offer, said the sources. A better position is beingput on hold for her pending her signatureon the dotted line.Regional DA chairperson Daddy Mollo

and Emfuleni caucus leader Danie Hoffman(DA) confirmed that Skelem no longernumbers among their members. The DA

will still have to advertise her position fora fitting candidate for by-elections. Current-ly an acting councillor has been appointedto keep the DA flame burning, reports Mol-lo. Her resignation will not affect the ward.“We’re still going to win that ward as wedid in the past when we took it from theANC,” explained Mollo. “As she joined theDA willingly, we wish her health and lifein her new position.”Asked whether the DA knew that appa-

rently she is negotiating with the ANC,Hoffman responded that anything is possi-ble in the political game - especially towardelections next year.

In just under two weeks the personnel at yourfavourite newspaper will be going on leaveto get a well deserved rest. I have had the pri-vilege of being at the helm of this publicationfor the past three years and these have beenmemorable and fulfilling years. This job de-mands punctuality, determination, patienceand most of all passion. Most of the tasks I

have to fulfill would not have been possiblehad it not been for the support of my family, friends and colleagues. They say that no lea-der has an easy job.It is because of this paper that one has gai-

ned experience in a larger essence. Experien-ce on how to deal with politicians, a riotingcommunity, a dissatisfied client and a dis-gruntled colleague. In the few years of itsexistence the paper has gained such promi-nence that you could swear it has been herefor decades. But the strength of this paper could not ha-

ve come from only us, the staff, but also fromyou, our loyal reader, and for that we are in-

deed indebted to you.We may have plans sitting before us on a

weekly basis but had it not been for you, wewould not have the content and for that wesay THANK YOU.Over the years that I have been here I have

seen people come and go. A few have remai-ned and these are the people that have becomeaccustomed to your ‘wants’ and ‘needs.’We have always seen ourselves as a publi-

cation that wants to bring something betterto the people, better standards of living andgreater happiness to the masses of the peoplethrough the stories that we write. We have a great objective – ‘The light on

the hill’- which we aim to reach by workingfor the betterment of mankind, not only in onecommunity but anywhere we may lend a hel-ping hand. If it were not for that, this newspa-per would not be worth the paper it is printed

on. If this publication can continue to makesomeone more comfortable with their sur-roundings and life, give some father or mo-ther a greater feeling of security about child-ren who are abusing nyaope, a feeling thatthere will be work for the unemployed, a pro-mise that we will continue to be their mouth-piece and that we shall never cease to be therein their time of need, then our job is done. Therefore the success of this paper in many

years to come lies with you, as it always hasand as it always will. Continue to be a pillarof strength, and where we have wronged you, please bear with us. Where we have pleasedyou, appreciate it! Having said this we wouldlike to say THANK YOU once again, for theyears that have passed and the years that weknow you are going to continue being withus. Take care.Lerato...

SEBOKENG. -Aswe head towards the fes-tive season, parents should be wary of thedangers their kids may face. A trench fullof dirty water on the Golden Highway isbeing used as a swimming pool by youngboys residing in and around Boitumelo.Unable to appreciate the dangers, these yo-ung boys get butt-naked and dive straightinto the filthy water, swallowing it withouttaking any precautions or worrying aboutany consequences. The group of 13 boys, with the youngest

being six, stated that the trench was their“Hangout spot.” Seventeen-year-old Ste-phen Mofokeng states that he and the otherkids have been swimming in the trench for

a long time and he does not think they willget sick from swimming in or swallowingthe dirty water:“We are aware of the dangers that swim-

ming in the water may have, but we havebeen swimming here for a while and noneof us has gotten sick fom the dirty water.”Mamiki Mokoena, a resident, says that

they have spoken to the kids about swim-ming in the trench before but they do notlisten. “What these kids are doing is dange-rous. There is no supervision by parents andone of them might even drown. As we headtowards the festive season, I would advisethat parents keep a very strict eye on thesekids and give them strict instructions aboutcoming here.”

If Shooting From The Hip may ask - what arethese SAB League coaches doing at the trai-ning grounds? Shooting From The Hip is refer-ring to the football some of the Safa SedibengSAB League teams are playing. It is not as ifShooting FromTheHip is criticising SABLea-gue coaches but gentlemen, we need some cre-ativity at this level. I know some of the teamswant to collect points early in the season andthat is why we see this kind of boring footballon weekends. Maybe Shooting From The Hip

expects much better from some of the teamsor coaches, especially those coaches whom Iknow are fond of possession football. My pleato the SAB League coaches is – Guys! Asmuch as we want promotion, you must notoverlook themain objective of football –whichis to entertain spectators. Do you think thosesoccer fans come to watch your teams play justbecause they have nothing else to do?Wrong! They come to watch your teams play becausethey want to see good football from those yo-ungsters. Like Shooting From The Hip alwayssays, “We don’t go to stadiums and pay towatch ‘robots’ in action.” But having said this, some of the teams in Safa SAB League playexciting football. It is not as if I am biased, butone of those teams is Sailor FC which is coa-

ched by Thulani ‘Japan’Mthimkhulu. The factof the matter is that winning the league doesn’tmean a teammust play ‘skop and jag’ football. It is disgusting to hear coaches saying that inthe SAB League there is no time to play fancyfootball. This is not true and coaches who saythat are FAKES. For example, over the wee-kend, coaches made some silly commentsagainst a local academy saying they can’t scorebecause they play like Orlando Pirates. Really! Some development coaches are jealous to seecertain teams playing a brand of football thatis pleasing in the eyes of the spectators. If alldevelopment coaches understand that at this le-vel it is all about laying a solid foundation, thenthey can learn from their colleagues. There isno point in some coaches being happy just be-

cause they beat Ama Cheese Boys even if theyoffer nothing in the field of play except win-ning. The soccer I grew upwatchingwas inspi-red by individual brilliance andwas characteri-sed by: dribbling past a number of opponentswith relative ease, long and solo runs by mid-fielders, down the middle, sudden and comple-tely unexpected defense-splitting passes andcreating a goal out of nothing. Today’s soccerstrategists and coaches sternly maintain thatsoccer is a teamgameand that individual excel-lence should be minimised in order for a teamto produce the most effective results. Whethersuch intellectuals are right or wrong is a matterof discussion for another day, but their prea-ching has markedly reduced the beauty and ex-citement of the game.

Guys, entertain the spectators!SHOOTINGFROM THE

“The project is a collective ef-fort to identify more talent in thearea.

There is a lot of talent outthe re but there is not enough ef-fort to reach it, and this event willhelp find new talent. We urge thec ommunity to bringth eir children be-

SEBOKENG.- Emfuleni Local FootballAssociation’s Promotion League teamswillstart with their league’s programme beforethe end of the year.

This was revealed by association chair-man Philip Ndlovu during the pre-seasonmeeting at the Sebokeng Community Hallon Sunday.

Some of the burning is-sues discussed during themeeting was the prize gi-ving ceremony, the newseason turnaround strate-gy and the problems expe-rienced by the team lastseason.

Ndlovu believes thatthere is a need for a work-shop before the seasonstarts to train teams’ ma-nagers and administra-tors. The teams’ represen-tative also suggested thatthe association look forsponsorship for the lea-gue. However, thehighlight of the day wasthe proposal of onestream. The teams’ repre-

sentatives believe that this was long over-due - to have one strong stream.

Ndlovu also agreed with the teams thathaving one stream was something that wassupposed to have happened two seasonsago. “This season we have no choice butto have one stream. I thinkwe can no longerignore the teams’ plea because they are theones that demand one stream,” says Ndlo-

vu.Ndlovu also took the op-

portunity to congratulateSebokeng Ajax for gainingpromotion to Safa SedibengSAB League. He also com-plimented all the teams inboth streams - StreamA andB for playing in the leagueuntil the end.

However, he sent a strongmessage to those teamswhojoined the league but quitalong the way. He said,“This is not going to happenin the future because wewillhave one stream which con-sists of teams that are seri-ous about the developmentof football and taking ourfootball forward.”

SEBOKENG. - It was smash-and-grab whenVUT FC beat United Scientists FC 2-0 in theSafa Sedibeng SABLeaguematch at the Zone15 Stadium on Sunday. The game started on a low note with both

sides displaying boringmoves despite the factthat local soccer fans came in big numbers. The audience went home disapointed. The home side looked like the better side

on the field but their strikers evidently lefttheir scoring soccer-boots at home. Some ofthe chances that they missed could even havebeen converted by a retired striker - with ease. The game went to interval with the score

level at 0-0. The first half was so boring someof the fans ended up coaching from the stands. However, VUT FC came out smoking in

the second half, attacking their opponentsfrom every angle in search of the goals. Theirhard work paid off when they finally foundthe back of the net.At this stage ‘The Students’ were toying

around with their opponents who never offe-red any resistance. It came as no surprise

when the game ended with VUT FC winning2-0. The home side has itself to blame fortheir defeat. They could have wrapped thisgame up in the first half if they hadn’t wastedshots. It was “Eisssssh, Eissssssh” from the home

team’s bench and fans every time their trustedstrikers missed the target. In another Safa Se-dibeng SAB League, Vaal Milano trashed thehapless Verona FC 4-2 in yet another drearygame played at the George Thabe Stadium onSunday. The Bophelong-based side was the first to

break the deadlock but VaalMilano equalisedafter the goalkeeper’s blunder. In fact, poorgoalkeeping gave the home team three pointson a silver platter. In all fairness both teamsplayed boring football, kicking the socks outof each and every ball.Just like VUT FC and United Scientist

FC’s game, this game failed to live up to ex-pectation.Meanwhile, both gameswere characterised

by protests that Sedibeng Ster Sports couldnot demystify.
