After the BBQ they were transported to Broad Rip-ple, where they were given Liberty and relaxed at the American Legion where HIB Member Bill Schreiner had arranged the evening for them. Saturday brought a new day for the Marines. After spending the Day at the NFL experience and Doug Flutie Flag football where the Warriors met many celebrities they were hosted by the Indianapolis Country club for a dinner.

After dinner at the Country Club they were trans-ported to the State Fair Grounds, where they were guests of the CMT Crossroads Concert hosted by the NFL and Pepsi and featuring Carrie Under-wood and Steven Tyler.

    Finally Super Bowl Sunday!

The Warriors were treated to a Tail Gate party hosted by Rolls Royce at the Conrad Hotel.

After the Tail Gate party the Marines were transported to Super Bowl XLVI where they were given front door VIP access to the game.

On Monday morning 6 Feb 12, they were met at Odark30 by the Morgan County MCL Detachment in Martinsville where the Warriors stayed to load them on their bus for the trip home. Thank you Marines for having our back.

I would like to thank all of the Sponsors, Companies , Organizations and people who stepped up to make this an event to remember both for the Wounded Warriors and all involved. Personally I want to thank the Detachments in Indiana ( Morgan County #1367, Southern Indiana Leathernecks #931, Howlin Mad #93, Mounds #502, Michiana #1348, Emerald City (NY) #877, and my own Detachment Hiram I Bearss #089 & Pound 111) for donating money, goods and their time to this mission, thereby carrying on the Mission of the Marine Corps League: Mission Statement-Members of the Marine Corps League join together in camaraderie and fellowship for the purpose of preserv-ing the traditions and promoting the interests of the United States Marine Corps, banding together those who are now serving in the United States Marine Corps and those who have been honorably discharged from that service that they may effectively pro-mote the ideals of American freedom and democracy, voluntarily aiding and rendering assistance to all Marines, FMF Corpsmen and former Marines and FMF Corpsmen and to their widows and orphans; and to perpetuate the history of the United States Ma-rine Corps and by fitting acts to observe the anniversaries of historical occasions of particular interest to Marines.

But my greatest thanks goes to LtCol Charlie Haislip, without whose guidance and passion for this project we would not have been as successful in accomplishing the mission as we were.

This was one of the most rewarding experiences I have ever had. My passion is insuring that Marines

are taken care of my passion meter was definitely pegged, commented Lt. Col. Haislip.

This detachment has set the standard by which we must gauge all of our future performances . We

have proven we can still work together as Marines to accomplish a mission. I hope your enthusiasm is

renewed as much as mine is. Below is the reason why we did it. Remember that always.

    About Indianapolis

Indianapolis (abbreviated Indy ) is the capital of the U.S. state of Indiana, and the county seat of Marion County, Indiana. As of the 2010 United States Census, the city's population is 839,489. It is by far Indiana's largest city and, as of the 2010 U.S. Census, is the 12th largest city in the U.S., the second largest city in the Midwest (behind Chicago), the second most populous state capital (after Phoenix, Arizona), and the most populous state capital east of the Mississippi River. Indianapolis is also one of the fastest growing regions in the United States.

For much of its history, Indianapolis has oriented itself around government and industry, particu-larly manufacturing. Today, Indianapolis has a much more diversified economy, contributing to the fields of education, health care, and finance. Tourism is also a vital part of the economy of Indian-apolis, and the city plays host to numerous conventions and sporting events. Of these, perhaps the most well known is the annual Indianapolis 500. Other major sporting events include the Brickyard 400 and the Men's and Women's NCAA Basketball Tournaments. 2012 will mark the first time Indi-anapolis will play host to the Super Bowl. Super Bowl XLVI will be played at Lucas Oil Stadium, on February 5, 2012 in Downtown Indianapolis.

At the center of Indianapolis is the Mile Square, bounded by four appropriately named streets: East, West, North, and South Streets. Nearly all of the streets in the Mile Square are named after U.S. states. The exceptions are Meridian Street, which numerically divides west from east; Market Street, which intersects Meridian Street at Monument Circle; Capitol and Senate Avenues, where many of the Indiana state government buildings are located; and Washington Street, which was named after President George Washington. The street-numbering system centers not on the Circle, but rather one block to the south, where Meridian Street intersects Washington Street (part of the historic National Road)

Like most cities in the Midwest, it has four distinct seasons. Summers are hot and humid, with high temperatures regularly approaching 90 F (32 C), with some days exceeding 95 F (35 C). Spring and autumn are usually pleasant, with temperatures reaching around 65 F (18 C). Spring, how-ever, is much less predictable than autumn; midday temperature drops exceeding 30 F (16.7 C)) are common during March and April, and instances of very warm days (86 F/30 C) followed within 36 hours by snowfall are not unheard of during these months. Winters are cool, with daily highs barely inching above freezing. Temperatures occasionally dip below 0 F (18 C) on 7 nights per year. The rainiest months are in the spring and summer, with average rainfall of over four inches (100 mm) per month, mostly derived from thunderstorm activity; there is no distinct dry season with slightly higher summer averages.

The city's average annual precipitation is 41 inches (1,040 mm).

    The mean July temperature is 75.4 F (24.1 C), and the corresponding figure for January is 26.5 F (3.1 C). The record high for Indianapolis is 106 F (41 C), on July 25, 1954. The record low is 27 F (33 C), on January 19, 1994. Average annual snowfall is 27 inches (69 cm).

The city is second only to Washington, D.C., for the number of war monuments inside city limits.

The labels of The Amateur Sports Capital of the World and The Racing Capital of the World have both been applied to Indianapolis.

Night Life The downtown's main nightlife is located on Meridian Street and Massachusetts Avenue. The night clubs and bars are located on Meridian Street between the Monument Circle and Lucas Oil Sta-dium. Massachusetts Avenue is a diverse location with multiple European bars and restaurants and is often considered as a hip and cosmopolitan neighborhood of the downtown. Some of the night clubs and bars near Meridian Street include Bartinis, Cadillac Ranch, Sensu, Blu, Subterra Lounge, Ugly Monkey, Slippery Noodle Inn, Howl at the Moon, Tiki Bob's, Claddagh Irish Pub, Kilroy's Bar and Grill, Hard Rock Cafe, Jillian's, Scotty's Brewhouse and a cigar lounge called Nicky Blaines. Mass Ave bars include Front Page Grill, Bazbeaux Pizza, Old Point Tavern, Bu Da Lounge, Chatterbox, Mesh on Mass, FortyFive Degrees, and Metro. Mass Ave also has various European bars that include MacNiven's (Scottish), Chatham Tap (English), and The Rathskeller (German). There are many other bars located around the Downtown area.

  • The Country Club of Indianapolis was born more than 115 years ago on June 4, 1891. It was the first country club in the city and among the earliest in the nation. Those who formed the club were prominent social and industrial figures in the thriving city of 40,000. A remodeled farmhouse where the Woodstock Club is now situated served as the first clubhouse. It burned November 4, 1904 and was rebuilt only to burn again later. Back then, a day at the club was a full day. Members took a streetcar from down-town to Mapleton (which now is Illinois Street and Maple Road) for the first leg of the journey. Then they were picked up by the club's "carry-all", a wagon-like vehi-cle with seats along the sides for the last lap of the trip. Originally, it was not golf, but tennis and enclosed bowling in the clubhouse that attracted members.

In 1897, a distinguished member, Alvin S. Lockard, toured the world and discov-ered golf in India, and upon his return to Indianapolis, purchased a set of "sticks" and balls from Charles Mayer & Co. Two golf holes were constructed, and an annual fee of $1 was charged to interested members
