1 From the Helm…. Gary Nasby- Commandant Hiram I. Bearss Det. #089 Well, we made it and have had a successful stint hosting the 69th Department of Indiana Convention on June 18-20. The comments have all been favorable to all of the mem- bers from the detachment that worked the convention, and it seems a great time and learning experience was had by all who attended. My thanks goes out to all who worked the convention. Your efforts in being a team made it suc- cessful. Now we must start thinking of next year, when we will host the Division Conference. Just as many if not more volun- teers will be needed to make this conference successful also. So Marines, and Associates, try to step up when asked for your time. I think you will find it a lot of work but a re- warding experience that benefits your detachment. We are also bidding to host the National Convention in 2013, tentatively set for the 3rd week of July, 2013. Col. Haislip is the Convention Chairman, and is working hard to get things in place for us to start promoting Indian- apolis as the best place to hold it at this years National Con- vention in Greensboro, NC. This will be a lot of work, and great prestige for your Detachment, so once again I am ask- ing for your help when asked to volunteer for this. I know it’s 3 years away, but if you are like me, time seems to be flying by faster, and faster everyday. Plan to attend meetings, to find out what exciting new things are going on in the Detachment. I think you will be surprised. Suggested “Uniform of the Day” for meetings is your red cover, but it is not mandatory for attendance. Bring a fellow Marine to join. From Your Quartermaster: We have added some new items to our ships store. Since the convention we have rearranged the ships store at the barracks. Be sure and visit us when you are there the next time. We are going to order once a month from various venders. See me if you need or want anything. We have in stock most of the uniform items. We will be making up a form for you to use in ordering items from national and other venders we deal with. They should be available by the time you read this. If you have anything new you would like to see in your ships store be sure and let me know. We do have a monogram shop that can do monogram’s for us at a good price. We also have a place that will sew on patches for us at a reduced price.

*******Special thanks to Farber Detachment for their donation to the Ships Store******* Quartermaster - Bud Albright
