Prepare chemicals and other materials for workshops and/or individuals. 3. Supervise the issue and return of chemicals, materials and equipment. 4. Provide relevant technical advice in relation to experiments and supervise students in conjunction with teaching staff. 5. Undertake occupational Health and Safety duties and provide advice to teaching staff and update manuals appropriately and relevantly. 6. Order various materials as required and make necessary arrangements for collection and/or dispatch.

Position overviewThis position will provide a specialist service to staff and Indigenous students within the nursing, home economics & science units; assist in a range of technical functions in support to the health science units in Alice Springs, Tennant Creek and Batchelor, as well as manage and maintain the teaching laboratories, wards and clinics for these areas ensuring that these premises are fully stocked and functional in accordance with the national code.

6. Order various materials as required and make necessary arrangements for collection and/or dispatch.

7. Organise purchasing of required goods and services and maintain financial records; organise inventories, record and monitor budgets for the teaching laboratories, wards and clinics.

8. Responsible for the day to day running of the laboratories, wards and clinics in Batchelor and oversee the Alice Springs and Tennant Creek facilities.

9. Provide support to students and provide technical advice and assistance to teaching staff during practical classes and to be able to work effectively and independently.

10. Provide an environment that simulates a variety of realistic clinical settings that provides students with an opportunity to practice hands-on skills.

11. Maintain the clinical equipment so that students can practice in an environment that is non-threatening and in accordance with the course requirements.

12. Develop and maintain good relationships with students and provide a high standard of service.

13. Promote and provide a safe working environment at all times and be able to work within a framework of established procedures, workplace routines and deadlines.

14. Organise orientation for staff and students in the teaching laboratories, wards and clinics.

Essential selection criteria1. Proven ability in science, nursing and nutrition with demonstrated interpersonal communication and

organisational skills.

2. Proven ability for problem solving and to work effectively unsupervised, to meet deadlines and manage stock levels and be able to prioritise workloads.

3. Must have a First Aid certificate.

4. Demonstrated capacity to work within the social, political and cultural environments of Indigenous Australian communities and organisations.

5. Proven ability and/or experience working in a multi-skilled environment with demonstrated expertise in one of the disciplines either in medical or science fields would be well regarded.

6. Demonstrated experience in the application and usage of relevant Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, Powerpoint and Email.

7. Possess a Current criminal history check or the ability to obtain one.

8. Possess a current NT OCHRE Card or the ability to obtain one.

9. Understanding of Work Health and Safety principles and practices, and ability to comply with Institute WHS Policies and Procedures.

10. Demonstrated understanding of Equal Opportunity and Affirmative Action principles and practices.

Desirable selection criteria1. Certificate in Biological Science and/or Medical Science and/or relevant experience.

2. Previous experience in an educational institution with exposure to a laboratory environment.

3. Current NT ‘C’ class drivers licence.
