    New pipeline

for TukakgomoTubatse Chrome this week han ded over a

new water pipeline to the commu nity in

Tuka kgomo as par t of the companys social

    investment projects.

The new pipeline is meant for the h ighpressure transportation of household water

from the source to the reservoir on the hill

at Tukakgomo as th e old pipeline started to

give a lot of problems. Members of the the

    community, the tibal autority and

    representatives of the company, engineers

who built the pipeline and members of

    Tubatse Chrome management gathered at

anoth er of the companys projects in the

    area, Tubatse Classrooms, where Mr

Andries Nieuwoudt explained th e project to

    guests.

He said t he old pipeline , constructed

about 30 years a go by the company, gave

problems because not only was it u sed for

feeding the reservoir, but a lso used for

further ret iculation in the villages. The

purpose of the new pipeline was only to

feed the the res ervoir. The old pipeline willnot be removed as at still has to play an

importan t role as a reticulation pipe. The

new feeding pipe is totally sealed from th e

source to the reservoir and n o need exists

to tap int o this pipe. The old pipe will from

now on only take wa ter from the r eservoir

    into the villages.

After a hearty brunch at Tukakgomo

Classrooms, all the guests proceeded to the

pipeline where it could be seen sur facing

from the ground next to the road at the hill

where the reservoir is situat ed.

At the site the general mana ger ofTubatse Chrome, Mr Desmond McManus,

officially han ded over th e pipe t o

    representatives of Greater Tubatse

    Municipality and members of the

    community.

The local governm ent will from n ow on

    administrate all matters around the

pipeline in conjunction with grea ter

    Sekhukhune District Municipality who is

responsible for water provision in th e area .

    Representatives of the municipality, the

tribal authority and m embers of the

community thanked the company for its

contr ibution towards s ocial upliftment in

the a rea a nd echoed Mr McManus handing

over message that the company will

continu e to engage with the local

ciommunities in the area and t o work

together with communities towardseverbodys m utu al ben efit.

Earlier Mr N ieuwoudt t old Platinum

Gazette that Tukak gomo Classrooms, a

new facility, will prima rily be used for

adult basic education and training and t hat

the company is in th e process to establish a

    committee within the community to

    manage the facility.

Long before Johann Sebastian Steadtler founded his own pencil manufacturingplant in 1835, one of his ancestors, Friedrick Steadtler, had already been activeas a pencil maker. Records of this ancestor of the company STEADTLER canbe found in the public records of the city of Nuremburg, Germany, as far back as1662.With the foundation of the company in Nurembergs old quarter in 1835, Johann

Sebastian Steadtler laid the groundwork for the modern and world-renownedSTEADTLER group of companies, adapting the experience and knowledge inthe traditional handcraft of pencil making gained in the workshop of his father,Paulus Steadtler, to industrial production.By around 1840, J.S. Steadtler produced 63 different kinds of pencils. By 1866,

54 workers were employed. In the year 1900, the product name Mars was registered with the Imperial

Patent Office. What began as a trademark for a high product standard is today abrand distinguished by the same qualities world wide: innovation, precision, reliability and superb writing comfort. As such, STEADTLER became one of theworlds leading manufacturers and suppliers of writing and drawing instruments.

In 1949 STEADTLER broke new ground and began munfacturing ballpoint pens. One year later the company introduces the first leadholder, a pencil with a solidbarrel and releasable lead, the forerunner of the fine lead mechanical pencil. Inthe following years STEADTLER continued to expand its range of writinginstruments, progressing from mechanical pencils (1955), to technical pens(1962), to felt-tip, fibre-tip and overhead projector pens (1964) all the way to finelead mechanical pencils in 1969.For more than 170 years STEADTLER has beenone of the leading manufacturers and suppliers of

writing and drawing instruments the world over.

The biggest and longest burning fire in the

history of Burgersfort t ook with it Supa

Save on th e morning of 26 December 2009.

Nobody was injured du ring the blaze.

The fire started in the early hours of themorning and quickly spread through th e

    shop towards the warehouse.

Highly flamable deodorants, can ned foods

and cooking oil caught fire and cau sed

    explosions within th e building.

A major fire fighting operat ion was

underway quickly after the fire was

reported. The local fire fighters were a ided

in their efforts by th e proto teams from

Modikwa Platinum Mine an d Tubatse

    Ferrochrome.

Teams from Middleburg and the Greater

Sekhukhune District also came to help in

    the effort.

One of the major obstacles was t he fact

that there is no fire hydrants close by to

refill the t ank s used to fight the fire.

For more than a week the Greater Tubatse

Fire Brigade took tu rns in watching that

the fire do not spread to other buildings in

    the area.

We would like to th ank the wh ole

supportin g us. We ask people to please

pray for us, said Mr Anees Arbee

    yesterday.

He also confirmed th at they will open a

smaller st ore where the old Score used t o

be in th e BBS building (above Fresh Pick

and Fash ion World). This is expected to

open somewhere in Febru ary. They will

also keep most of their sta ff employed.

The long term plan is to rebuild the store,

    said Mr Arbee.

He added th at t hey are still investigating

what caused the fire, but that a team of

forensics and an investigator ruled out

    arson.

The estimated damage is still being

    calculated.

Not a tarred road, but villagers of Ga-Moraba between Strydom Tunnel and Leboeng can now again use the access road to their village after heavy

rains caused the road to wash away next to the storm drainage pipes in November last year. The villgaers were angry about what they saw as shabby

service delivery and still maintain that they were promised a tarred road by the government. On the face of it the repairs to the storm water system

looks quite sturdy, with local rock (of the same kind villagers use to block the road when they are angry) used in the construction to give it extra

    strength.

Do not bribeA man who tried to bribe a member of the Police earlier this month, was

sentenced to three months in prison by the Praktiseer Magistrates Court

on 11 January. The whole sentence was suspended for three years.

According to Tubatse Police the man, Zackeus Tshepiso Mafane was

stopped at a road block in Bothashoek just outside Burgersfort on 8

January. He was found driving a taxi withiout a professional driving

permit and the taxi was also carrying an overload of passengers.

He offered the Police official R100.

On 09 January the Police in Tubatse arrested a 27 year old man forallegedly hitting his 46 year old sister with an unknown object on the

head after they had an argument. The incident happened at Ge-Matodi

village. The man was charged with assault with the purpose to inflict

grievous bodily harm. The suspect appeared in court in Praktiseer on 11

January and granted bail of R1000. The case was postponed to 02

    March.

Small march, big problemThe r esidents of Kutu llo village, which forms pa rt of Ga-

Malekan e (Ward 27) say they ha ve a serious problem with

a lack of water in t heir village.

More specific their village is situa ted between t he new

De Hoop Dam an d the steel bridge on the road to Jane

Fur se when you tra vel from Roosseneka l to Steelpoort.

They say they relied on a pump for reticulation, but at thisstage the pump is not working .

One resident told the n ewspaper if you do not have a

water tan k an d pay people to fill it up, you do not have

water . People on the other side of the river (the Ja ne

Fur se side) do not suffer so much, because a num ber of

them h ave boreholes. We complained about the issue at

our ward councillor. before th e elections last year , we

were promised a lot of things, an d the pu mp was fixed, but

soon after th e election it broke down again. Since then we

are st ruggling with water supply. Our ward committee

also do not functioon as it s hould because most of the

members of the committee do not h ave problem with

    water.

As a result of their problem, a number of residents has

decided on Tu esday t o march t o the wa rd councillor house.

This m arch of ours is pea ceful the group, most of them

who just k nocked of from work a t 17:00, told the

newspap er. We are just tr ying something so tha t

somebody may listen an d give attent ion to our pr oblems. The also do not have electricity, but that was not the issue

on Tuesday . We will worry about tha t one at a later

stage. Now the water is the biggest problem.

We must car ry water from the river. Since they

started with the construction of the De Hoop Dam, the

water is conta minat ed with oil and other stu ff. We get

diarrh oea, we cann ot drink it a s it is not good for us.

The reas on why the blocked the r oad is

In particular they complain about a

Are you going to watch the2010 is the year of the F ifa World Cup.

South Africa will be hosting this m ajor

event bringing hundreds of thousands of

    soccer enthusiasts into the country.

    However, local organising committee CEO,

Mr Danny J ordaan recently expressed his

concern a bout th e slow sale of tickets

featuring Bafana Bafana and other African

    countries.

Especially games featur ing South Africa,

Cameroon, Algeria, Ivory Coast, Ghan a

and Nigeria have had slow ticket sales.

According to J ordaan South Africans have

a culture of buying tickets at the last

    minute.

A certa in am ount of tickets were allocated

for sa le to South Africans. Fa ns a pply for

tickets and are awarded th e tickets

through a r andom draw process. That is

why South Africans could still get tickets t o

the opening an d final games of the event .

Applications can be made un til 22 Janu ary

    2010.

In an attempt to boost ticket sales, Jordaan

and h is committ ee are now consideringselling tickets over the counter. This would

mean tha t a fan can walk in at a t icket

outlet and simply buy a ticket to a game

    over the counter.

We asked readers whether they already

have bought t ickets to a Bafana Bafana

game or are planning to buy a ticket.

Mnr. Pieter OReilly s: Ek hou nie vansokker nie. Sokker het geen kultuur nie,so ek gaan nie kaartjies koop of kyk nie.

Mr Patrick Magoro said: I dont haveenough cash to buy a ticket. I am stillwilling to buy, but Bafana Bafana hadsuch a decline it is disappointing towatch. They are not the same team theywere with Clive Barker.

Mnr. Migael de Lange s: Ek kyk niesokker nie en ek was nog nooit eens by nrugby wedstryd nie. Ek woon nie sulkesportgeleenthede by nie.

Ms Theliza Makua said: Id rather watch it on TV. We are too far away from thestadiums where the games are being played. Its better to watch it with family andfriends at home. With her are Kenzani Makua and Bonolo Makua.

Ms Cecelia Makofane said: I dont knowhow to buy a ticket, plus Ill have to workso I wont be able to go.

Me. Christa Loubser s: Ons is meerkrieket en rugby kykers. Ons het niekaartjies nie.

Mnr. Pieter Dreyer: Ek sal dalk nog nkaartjie koop. Ek weet nie.

Mnr. Hennie Potgieter s: Nee, ek gaannie kaartjies koop nie. Ek moet na mensese huise kyk terwyl hulle sokker kyk.

Mr Johnny Ledwaba said: Im going tobuy one but the tickets and the BafanaBafana regalia are very expensive. If youwant to show support for Bafana whenattending a game it will be very expensiveto buy a T-shirt in support of the team.People dont have money, we are justcoming from a recession.

Mr Michael Rasalanavho said: Implanning to buy one. I must at least attendone or two games.

Mr Dingaan Makhado said: We donthave money to buy tickets. Many peopleare still without jobs and also dont havemoney for tickets although they want togo.

Mr Siyabulela Zakade said: I just want towatch it on TV. I dont have money to buya ticket. They cost a lot of money.

Me. Cindy Baxters: Die sitplekkewat hulle vir dieSuid-Afrikaanseondersteunersuitgehou het, is

Mr Taylor Gamedze said: I haventbought tickets yet. It is disappointing towatch Bafana Bafana perform poorly. Idrather watch it at home.

Mr Klaas Mothapo said: I do have ticketsfor some of the games in Polokwane.
