PASTOR’S COLUMN
Dear Community of Our Lady of Perpetual Help, Jesus is so close to us. He constantly seeks to establish a deeper relation-ship with each one of us. He is so human, even though He is God. Even in His Apparitions, He always shows His human side. We see this when He reveals His Human Heart to St. Margaret Mary Alacoque. When He appears to St. Faustina, He appears without shoes, showing us His Feet. He wants us to trust in Him. In today’s Gospel, He beautifully allows us to feel His humanity.
“Children, have you caught anything to eat? ...”
“Come have breakfast …” “Simon, Son of John, do you love me? ...” John
Let us pray that we will find Jesus, more and more, in our lives, that we might love Him more, and serve our brothers and sisters according to His Heart.
Monsignor Lorenzo

Know the ways predators groom children
One of the ways a predator grooms his poten al vic-ms is by allowing children to do things their parents
wouldn’t — anything from playing video games, seeing R or PG-13 rated movies, or trying drugs and alcohol. To children, it can be exci ng or temp ng when another adult says they get to do something they want to do and have been previously denied. For the predator, this be-gins to set up a perceived rela onship in which the pred-ator becomes a trusted ally to whom the child can turn. Parents should be aware of who their children spend
me with, and what they do together. To learn more from the VIRTUS® ar cle “An Adult Who Allows Kids to Get Away with Things Their Parents Wouldn’t Allow,” visit h p://www.la-archdiocese.org/org/protec ng/Pages/VIRTUS-Current-Online-Ar cles.aspx.

LIFE’S BAGGAGE
Sometimes we hold onto hurts and wrongs for years, carrying them throughout our lives like suitcases. We hold the offenders responsible long after the misdeed. Think how much lighter we would feel if we shed the baggage and went through life forgiv-
ing and forgetting.

GONE FISHING
Today’s Gospel reveals Peter’s reac on to the difficul-
es of being a disciple of the risen Jesus. “I am going fish-
ing,” says Peter. Jesus has been tortured, executed, and
buried—and then gloriously raised from the dead. He
has appeared to the disciples a number of mes, but he
no longer lives among them as their teacher. The disci-
ples do not exactly understand how to proceed in this
unfamiliar and dangerous situa on. So Peter goes fish-
ing. He’s hungry, a er all, and at least he knows how to
fish. Jesus seems to reward Peter’s ins nct, and blesses
their net with one hundred fi y-three large fish.
Seven troubled men went out in a boat in the middle
of the night, when life seemed dark and empty. They
caught no fish. What did they do there, in the dark, at
sea, amid failure? Very possibly, they thought of their
beloved teacher. Silently in their hearts, or together in
stories, they recollected moments in their rela onship
with Jesus. That kind of recollec on is prayer. Each one
of us can spend me in prayer like this when facing our
own challenges.
“COME, HAVE BREAKFAST”
The Gospel goes on to show us how Jesus prepares
breakfast for the disciples. Jesus, in his resurrected body,
surely has no need for food. As usual, he thinks only of
the needs of others. The Gospel describes the charcoal
fire that Jesus has prepared, and we can sense the slow,
in mate pace of the early-morning encounter: we hear
the hissing of cooking fish; we feel dripping clothes dry in
the fire’s warmth; we smell bread roas ng; and we see
Jesus, king of the universe, serving a warm breakfast to
his disciples. In so doing, Jesus demonstrates God’s care
for us. Some mes God provides extraordinary miracles
for us, like burs ng nets. At other mes, the Lord offers
himself in ordinary circumstances, like breakfast. We
follow Jesus’ example by doing what we can to care for
others, in extraordinary and ordinary ways. Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co., Inc
LLENDO A PESCAR
sucitado. “Voy a pescar”, dice Pedro. Jesús fue tortura-
do, ejecutado, enterrado, y luego gloriosamente resuci-
maestro. Los discípulos no en enden exactamente cómo
proceder ante esta situación desconocida y peligrosa. Así
que Pedro va a pescar. Él ene hambre, después de to-
“VENGAN A COMER ALGO”
“Vengan a almorzar …” “Simón, hijo de Juan, ¿me amas? ...” Juan
