PASTOR’S COLUMN
Dear Community of Our Lady of Perpetual Help,
“I come to gather nations of every language … they bring all your brothers and sisters from all the nations …” Isaiah
God came for all people! We might be very different in language and in culture, yet all of us are children of God. God wants us to be united, to help each other here on earth. He has prepared a place for all of us in Heaven. He will always challenge us to live true fraternity with all people.
“My son … do not disdain the discipline of the Lord or lose heart when reproved
by Him … for whom the Lord loves … He disciplines …” Hebrews
He sends us to others, even those that are very different from us. The language of love calls us to communion with all.
“Go out to all the world and tell the Good News …” Psalm 117
If we do not follow His will and become people of division … There will be consequenc-es.
“I do not know where you are from … depart from me … all you evildoers …” Luke Good Shepherd, help us to be like you! Monsignor Lorenzo

Evaluate playgrounds for safety
Before you let a child enjoy the playground, it is important to check the safety features of the park or playground area. Make sure children are using height‐appropriate swings, slides and ladders. Equipment should be mounted on shock‐absorbent materials and not hard surfaces, and children should be able to move easily between equipment. CAN YOU SEE GOD?
Are you aware of God’s presence in your life? Looking for ways in which He blesses us rather than thinking about prayers He hasn't yet answered makes us more aware of how He moves in our lives. Of course, God is always with us whether we see Him or not. Ask Him to give you eyes to see Him.

ISRAEL AND THE NATIONS The Old Testament is the story of God and the peo‐ple of Israel. Today we can also see that other peoples‐‐ the na ons ‐‐are important par cipants in the story. It was a crowded Middle East, and other na ons like Egypt, Canaan, and Babylon were o en close observ‐ers of Israel ’s encounters with God. They witnessed God ’s judgment upon Israel and God ’s restora on of Israel (Ezekiel 36). God ’s reputa on spread widely among them. God ruled them and blessed them (Psalm 47, Psalm 67). In today ’s reading from Isaiah, the author presents a vision that all na ons will one day be gathered to worship God. They will be accepted into God ’s house as full members, and blessed with God ’s salva on (Isaiah 56, Isaiah 19). God ’s inten on all along was to form Israel so as to invite the na ons to par cipate in the great plan. When God first called Abraham, God said I will bless you . . . All the families of the earth will find blessing in you (Genesis 12). We, the Church to‐day, share in this call. THE LAST AND FIRST Jesus phrase in Luke’ s Gospel today‐‐ some are last who will be first, and some are first who will be last ‐‐also appears in similar form in Ma hew (20:16) and Mark (10:31). All are concluding statements of a teaching of Jesus, but each appears in a different con‐text. In Ma hew, the phrase concludes the parable of the vineyard workers, upse ng listeners expecta ons of work and reward. In Mark, wealth is presented as an obstacle to salva on, again reversing expecta ons. In Luke, when asked whether only a few may be saved, Jesus shi s the focus to who is best able to re‐ceive God ’s invita on. Following his healing of a wom‐an on the Sabbath (13:11 ‐17), Jesus emphasizes com‐passion over a narrow interpreta on of Jewish law. To his listeners surprise, Jesus announces that those who prac ce compassion, rather than those in religious leadership, are the first to understand and accept God ’s salva on.
Lucas
¡Buen Pastor, ayúdanos a ser como tu!
Monseñor Lorenzo

A retreat refreshes and revitalizes; offers the chance to spend more time in prayer and con-templation; to rekindle and deepen one’s rela-tionship with God. The word retreat comes from the Latin verb “to pull back.” The Guild’s annual retreat offers you the opportunity to re-lax, get inspired and pull back from the day-to-day distractions we all face.
