My genreI have chosen ‘indie rock’ as my genre as it is a genre of music that I frequently listen to and this will make it easier to create a true representation. This genre has a lot of crossover appeal making it quite a broad canvas with lots of options to choose from and different paths to take.

PhotographsFor the main photographs for the article on the double page spread (DPS) I will take photographs on a photos shoot as this will create a professional look. I will then edit them on a program like Photoshop to make them black and white which will enforce the edgy and off the wall fell of the indie genre which I an conveying. The models will have one accessory each which will stand out in this image in in colour, creating a contrast from the bland whit theme. E.g. a bandana worn in the hair in a deep purple colour or lipstick in a rich red against the rest of the photo. The main images will be long shots and medium shots including nearly all of the detail of the model. This is conventional for an indie rock magazine. For the photographs that I will be including in my magazine I want to create a new and fresh look that appeals to young people. Photography is very popular in our society with lots of apps like Instagram and Pinterst becoming more and more popular . I want to capture their popularity and include in my magazine, using he new and the old. I want to create boarders on the photos that I take that are similar to the boarders that people use on their Instagram photos. I will also use similar effects to make it look as if the photos are off a social networking site connoting young people linking my magazine to the target audience. I also want to try to incorporate the ‘photo booth’ look into my magazine as this is another popular social thing among young people. I have tow options, I could either take photos in an actual photo booth giving the magazine a ‘real’ and ‘genuine’ feel, then scanning these photos in and using them for the article. Or I could take photos on a photo shoot and edit them so they look as if they have been taken in a photo booth. I like the first idea better as it would give a more spontaneous effect and would be real life rather than set up which is what I want my magazine to convey. These photos will be added alongside the main photo on the DPS and possible on the contents page as an introduction to the article. These photos will be close ups of the face just showing the main details as these will be quite small on the page. They will also be in colour as a contrast from the main images and to soften the look from the harsh black and white.

Target audienceMy target audience age range is 17 – 22 years old. I think the age range I have chosen is appropriate as the genre falls into it perfectly and the gap isn't too big so I will be able to focus my research and planning down to these ages specifically. Not all people this age like this genre but indie rock does have a lot od cross over range so hopefully everyone will like something about the magazine, it be the competitions or the main article itself.

Magazine titleFor my magazine title I have chosen ‘Rogue’. I chose this after I did a lot with around 40 people in my target audience. The title connotes something a bit rough around the edges and a little wild which is what indie rock music is. The dictionary definition of the word is ‘behaviour which is not expected and people often use the term a ‘rogue bull’ meaning something out of control. I am not enforcing uncontrolled behaviour but something that is a little risky and different.

Front CoverOn the front cover of the magazine I plan to have a main image of the artists. There will be 2 or 3 models who will create a indie group, indie music is mostly made up of indie groups as opposed to solo artists. The photo will dominate the page and unlike magazines like pop music magazines which have a lot of the page I want to keep my cover quite plain and simple, similar to notion magazine that I analysed. When I did my focus group I found that my target audience liked that face that it was quite bare and stripped back, this is what I plan to replicate in my own way. In addition to this, on the front cover I will also include lots of different ways to entice the readers to buy the magazine like sub article titles and skyline s so the readers can pick out my magazine in the news stand. I am going to use a strap line for the main article so that people can get a ‘feel’ for the magazine before they open it. On the front I'm going to have a bright circle with an opportunity of winning something inside it to add interest to the front cover and to front cover and to take a bit away from the harsh black and white.

Contents PageThe contents page I one of the most important pages in the magazine and it has to be attention grabbing for the readers . It will be the busiest page even though I want to keep my magazine simplistic and quite minimal. I am going to include the editorial on this page which will tell the reader what the magazine will include and will also gave them an idea about the main article, if they like the cover artist they will be interested ion this and will want to read further finding out about what's to come in the future for the magazine as well. On this page there will also be page numbers indicating different articles and features. In addition to this there will be a subscription box at the bottom letting the readers know how they can subscribe to the magazine if they like it. This is one of the main ways that the magazine can get money and is a usual convention in a music magazine.

Double page spreadI want to make my double page spread directly link to the genre of music so I will be using a big bold font like the example on the right. The title and image will be quite large creating a good balance between the text and the images as this is something i found my target audience wanted more of when I interviewed them.
