Genre

The genre of my magazine will be a mixture of electronic/dance music and rock music and all of their subgenres.

I have chosen these two genres as these two genres are a really popular, compared to genres such as country and jazz.

Another reason why I chose this genre is because during doing some research of magazines, I have found that there isn’t a magazine with these two genres yet.

Most magazines are exclusively dedicated to one genre most of the time, and this would be my USP (unique selling point).

The name of my magazine

I had many ideas for the title of the magazine, however I could only choose one. My ideas include Indie-cisive, Electro-Rock, Amped, Mist and Pause & Play. The one I chose is Amped because I found it suitable for the genre of my magazine.

Amped links to both genres as dance and rock songs’ volume can be increased and made more enjoyable and it isn’t specific to one genre of music.

Content ideas My magazine is going to have a range of types of interesting content. I am going

to include a wide range of features such as artists (interviews) and regulars. The regulars I would include could be giveaways/competitions, interviews, lists

(of for example best 10 songs of the week), advice, letters/drawings/photos/social media posts that the readers sent to the magazine, reviews and recommendations, posters and gig information.

I would also include posters (as a regular thing in my magazine) of popular artists from the two genres.

Examples of artists included in the magazine are Twenty One Pilots, Calvin Harris, Zedd, Daft Punk, Bring Me The Horizon and more.

Colour scheme & Font Style The colour scheme will consist of grey, red and black. Grey is the colour of electronic/dance music Red and black are the two main colours of rock. I chose these 3 colours as I think they look nice together but

also connote the genres of the magazine. The masthead will be red as it stands out the most out of the

three colours I’ve chosen. The cover lines are going to be mostly black and the main

cover line is going to be grey. The fonts are mostly going to be sans-serifs as they reflect the

two genres’ informality and casual vibes.

Publisher At first, I thought the publisher of my magazine would be Bauer

Media Group as they publish the most music magazines out of all publishers I have researched. Their music magazine brands include Mojo, Kerrang! and Q. Mojo and Kerrang! cover different subgenres of rock. Q is a pop music magazine. However, as they already have two other rock magazines, I thought I should look for another publisher that doesn’t have many rock magazines. That is why I chose Emap as my publisher. They don’t have any music magazines, and so I thought that this could be their first one, broadening their magazine genres.

Target audience The magazine’s primary target audience would be 14-18 year old

males as most males between these ages like rock and/or electronic music, especially as electronic music has been getting more and more popular in recent years. Their social class would be ABC1 as lower classes don’t tend to buy magazines hence their lack of money. The hobbies of the primary audience would include playing instruments, going to concerts/gigs, socialising, being on social media.
