(Happy Father’s Day in Heaven)
From Fr. Davy’s Desk:
This weekend we celebrate the solemnity of Pentecost. Pentecost is the birthday of the Church and the
conclusion of the Easter season. The disciples on the day of Pentecost filled with the gifts of the Holy
Spirit started preaching courageously their faith in the risen Lord.
I usually ask the young adults during the preparation of their confirmation about the gifts and the
fruits of the Holy Spirit. Sometimes they struggle to answer clearly about the gifts and fruits of the
Holy Spirit. On the feast of Pentecost it is better to meditate on the gifts and fruits of the Holy Spirit.
The Gifts of the Holy Spirit:
The listing of the gifts is found in Isaiah 11:2-3. (Saint Paul writes of "manifestations of the Spirit" in
1 Corinthians 12:7-11). During the baptism, every believer is bathed with the gifts of the Holy Spirit.
Wisdom helps to distinguish what is good and bad. Understanding is the gift of comprehension,
Right Judgment, or Counsel, is the gift of prudence. Courage removes fear. Knowledge enables to
choose the right path that will lead to God. Reverence or Piety, is the gift of confidence in God.
Wonder and Awe or Fear of the Lord deepens the faith. It is better to reflect on each gift every day of
the week.
The Fruits of the Holy Spirit:
The reference to the fruits of the Spirit is found the letter of Saint Paul to the Galatians 5: 22-25. The
fruits of the Spirit are; Love, Joy, Peace, Patience, Kindness, Goodness, Generosity, Gentleness, Faithfulness, Modesty, Self-control and Chastity. The twelve fruits of the Holy Spirit are signs that
the Holy Spirit is alive within us and helping us live the Catholic faith in our daily lives. If we prac-
tice each of these fruits every month our life will be conformed and become powerful witnesses of the
faith.
When we cooperate with the graces and gifts we receive from the Holy Spirit we will be able to pro-
duce the fruits. The fruits of the Holy Spirit inspire us to practice of our faith through our words and
deeds.
Wishing you a Happy Feast of Pentecost!
Fr. Kavungal Davy, CMI
bras y obras.
¡Les deseo una Feliz Fiesta de Pentecostés!
Padre Kavungal Davy, CMI
