Morris was a proud supporter of the Tobacco Action and Healthy Lifestyle Festival (TAHLfest) 2015. TAHLfest is an annual drug and alcohol free festival held in the town of Roebourne. The event raises awareness around health and wellbeing in the community through music, fun and festivities. Morris operated village - Point Samson Road, donated meals and accommodation to TAHLfest, accommodating the Balja Moort dance group and event coordinators over two nights.

Morris was one of the stallholders at TAHLfest, serving delicious food from the ‘Pop Up Morris Kitchen’. Following the organisers’ brief for all food to be healthy and traditional, Morris National Food Services Manager - Darren Adams, created a Green Fish Curry and Kangaroo Larb (Kangaroo mince and Vermicelli noodles served in lettuce cups) recipe.

The festival was action packed with performances from several dance groups, cooking demonstrations, fitness activities and rides for the kids. Headlining the night was Stan Walker (winner of Australian Idol 2009), who closed out the festival performing for the youth of Roebourne.

Event coordinator Tamika Jones said “The night was a huge success and enjoyed by many in Roebourne and quite a few that travelled from Wickham and Karratha.”

A big thank you to the Point Samson Village crew and everyone involved, for setting up the stall in 40 degree heat, for all the behind the scenes work in the lead up to the night and lastly for cooking and serving the delicious dishes at the festival.

Morris will be donating all of the money raised at TAHLfest back into the Roebourne community.

The Brisbane office recently took part in refresher fire safety training, with all new Wardens and staff members testing out their fire extinguisher skills!

SOURCE: http://www.fire.nsw.gov.au

HOME FIRE SAFETYStatistics reveal that almost half of all home fires are started in the kitchen and 43% of all fire fatalities occur in winter. The key to reducing the risk of fire occurring in your home and to surviving a house fire is being prepared. Everyone in your household should understand what risks there are in your home and what to do to minimise them.

SIMPLE SAFETY CHECKLIST TO ASSIST IN KEEPING YOUR HOME FIRE SAFE

• Installing an adequate number of suitable smoke alarms and testing them regularly is the first step in your home fire safety plan.• Having a written escape plan in case of fire and practicing it regularly.• Make sure keys to all locked doors are readily accessible in case you need to escape.• Never leave cooking or any other open flame including candles or oil burners unattended.• Clean the lint filter of your clothes dryer each and every time you use it.• Never smoke in bed and take extra care if consuming alcohol whilst smoking.• In Winter take extra care when using heaters, electric blankets or open fires.• Don’t overload power points and switch off appliances when not in use.• Always keep lighters and matches away from children and educate them that they are “tools not toys” to only be used by responsible adults.

The first mini golf tournament the ‘Collinsville Open’ was held at Collinsville Village. Village Manager, David Goodwin said “ A great time was had with a BBQ dinner and light refreshments after the game.” The winning team was maintenance, with a score of 5 over par. A protest was lodged as one of the winning team members wore sports shoes to the event - the dress regulations at Royal Collinsville Golf Club clearly state that thongs were compulsory. The rematch has been ordered for November. Collinsville are accepting challengers from other sites to come and experience the ‘Royal Collinsville Golf Club” for themselves.

This month Emma identified an incident involving a potential fire. In the accommodation block gardens Emma smelt and saw smoke coming from garden mulch. Emma took immediate action and extinguished the smoldering embers and reported immediately.

The potential was there for this to turn into something very serious without the quick actions from Emma.

FOOD MANAGEMENT PROJECT

MEET THE ASSET MANAGEMENT & FACILITIES MAINTENANCE TEAM

BUILDING MORRIS’S ASSET MANAGEMENT (AM) AND FACILITIES MAINTENANCE (FM)

By way of introduction and for those that do not know me, my name is Marc Raeburn. I am General Manager, Asset Management and Facilities Maintenance and have the charter to deliver the new Morris vision and our value proposition of “A truly integrated asset management solution”.

Morris has established an offering high in technical excellence by employing qualified and experienced personnel. The Asset Management Division is based in the Morris Brisbane office and consists of subject matter experts who are equipped to deal with a full range of issues from problem solving to route cause analysis.

Food management is a key initiative for Morris and supports our value proposition “A sustained focus on operational excellence”. Food Management includes the end to end management of food production with emphasis on our client/customer experience and satisfaction.

Due to the importance of food management and focus on continuous improvement, a project has been established to provide the tools, training and education to support our Head Chefs, Village Managers and Operations Managers in adopting the Morris way to food management. The Food Management Project team is developing a standardised approach to be implemented across Morris, ensuring all food service sites strive towards operational excellence.

The training has been designed to offer hands on learning experience that will allow key staff to gain a greater understanding of the tools and their role in food management. Roll out of the new tools will begin in December with key stakeholders attending training sessions held at Perth and Brisbane office locations.

Our favourite delivery driver Al (alias Santa) has been delivering linen twice a week to the Grove for the past seven years, and this week he turned 70, so we surprised him with an amazing cherry/chocolate cake to celebrate and thank him. Golden Grove utilises the local Geraldton Prison for laundering, and Al’s weekly in depth football analysis, jokes and general words of wisdom are keenly anticipated and enjoyed by all.
