“I have not had that many opportunities to learn new skills previously. However I am very motivated and eager to learn and build on the skills that I do have to further my knowledge in the workplace and life experiences.”

“My only least favourite part so far would be the late shift which finishes at 2130hrs. It is a bit isolating as there aren’t many activities to do after work with a lot of people a part from the few team members that are on the same shift as me but we make the most of it and still enjoy our time up here.”

“After my HSE Camp Induction, I was greeted in Village Reception by my new Manager, Casey who showed me around the camp and its facilities. He was very welcoming and made me feel a part of the team straight away. Casey provided me with contact details and shift times for the department and made me aware of procedures to be able to start my first shift.

On my experience as a new starter, it would have been more beneficial to have a full day introduction to the camp on the first day instead of a full day of work as it was overwhelming trying to comprehend everything so quickly. Maybe a buddy system for the first week would help new starters to the mining industry adjust and settle in more easily also.”

“I would love the opportunity to get my Law Degree and become a Lawyer but would also enjoy DJ-ing as a career. But at the moment, I am very focused on starting a career in the Mining Industry and learning new skills.”

Morris is a signatory to Generation One’s AEC and is committed to training Indigenous people and creating Indigenous positions within our business. The initial target set for Morris was met well in advance of the target date, with a framework being developed in support of building further opportunities for Indigenous traineeships, scholarships and work experience.

TRACK TO TRIUMPHBouyden Johnson

Morris Corporation are commited to continually working towards establishing positive relationships with Indigenous people within the regions of its operations and surrounding areas. Morris strives to ensure that Indigenous communities receive mutual benefits from its operations. Bouyden Johnson is Morris Corporations newest Track To Triumph candidate. Looking to build a career in the FIFO industry, Bouyden has been training with Morris in the Pilbara region.

“I was born in Western Australia but moved to Echuca, Victoria with my family when I was six years old. I have just in the last two years returned to Western Australia hoping that I would be able to get a chance to start working in the mines doing FIFO. I saw this as a good opportunity to start to build a career in the industry and hopefully learn a lot of life skills.

I came up to site with an open mind because I didn’t know what to expect as this is my first mine site. My team mates have helped me feel welcome and to settle in well to the camp and also into the Retail Department.”

“Since my first day, every time I have needed help there has been no problem in getting support from my team mates, supervisors and Village Managers. If I have a question, there is always someone around to give me the answer or show me how to complete the task. I have enjoyed all of my experiences on site so far however meeting new people and creating new friendships has been the highlight.”

IT’S THE LITTLE THINGS THAT COUNTRhonda Munyard, MGG Village QLD

About a year ago we were cleaning one of the rooms here at MGG Village and remembered that the couple had just returned from their wedding without a honeymoon. I decided to fold their towels a bit differently as a special treat. Later that day they told me they were amused and thankful by what we had done. I’m pleased to say that the couple I speak of have just left to backpack around Europe for a year, so I suppose the honeymoon will be worth the wait. I’d like to wish them Bon voyage and good luck from all of the Morris crew here at MGG Village.

MEET THE TEAM

Many of you, especially in the West would know Nicholas Hall. Nicholas is our IT manager for WA and has a daughter Annabelle-Rose. Annabelle-Rose was born with a rare abnormality and could use some support from the Morris family.

Annabelle-Rose was born with a rare chromosomal abnormality and global delay. Annabelle also has an eye condition which prevents her pupils dilating and retracting with sunlight which means she can’t control how much light goes into her eyes, this is extremely distressing for her, she cannot go to the park or for a walk unless the sun is setting.

Abnnabelle-Rose is unable to sit, crawl or walk due to very low muscle tone and needs some support from the Morris family to put a small therapy pool in the family backyard. The therapy pool would ensure Annabelle can have access to exercise every day.

We never take anything for granted and appreciate every tiny accomplishment our daughter makes. It is our hope that with your generosity we can give Annabelle the extra help she needs to be able to sit, crawl and maybe one day walk. We hope one day Annabelle will be able to walk and run around with her friends.
