atWork AUSTRALIA EMPLOYER OF THE YEAR

Morris has been awarded atWork 2014 Employer of the Year. The awards were held early in the month at Cottesloe Beach, Western Australia. The atWork event recognises the achievements and contributions of companies who provide employment opportunities for Indigenous job seekers and those with mental health issues, disabilities or other barriers to employment.

Track To Triumph was highlighted as a leading programme in helping prepare job seek-ers with practical skills specific to the work they will be employed to do.

atWork stated a major reason for Morris receiving the award was the “company’s innovative approach to induction and people management, supporting workers holistically - both on and off the job - in order to sustain employment.”

“Morris Corporation’s recruitment, mentoring and team building policies stand as a shining example to other companies in Australia, and make them a worthy winner of a second atWork Australia Employer of the Year Award.”

With the receipt of various recycling units, Morris Yandi has been recycling glass, cans, cardboard and in recent months polystyrene. We also have the capacity to dehydrate food wastes which can be given back to the local community to be used as fertiliser and shred pallets/44 gallon drums. We recycle for approximately 850 people.

FACTS AND FIGURES (AVERAGE):

• 500kg of Plastic Bottles per 2 Months• 12000kg of Crushed Glass per Month• 4200kg of Bailed Cardboard per Month• 350kg of Aluminium Cans per Month

YTD:• 53.9 Tonnes Recycled Waste• $3591.88 Dollars Raised for RFDS

“The way we look at recycling is that it’s a gift that keeps giving back to mother earth. Every bottle we crush, every box we flatten, we feel as though we are helping the world spin for that little bit longer. This means our kids, our grand kids and our great grand kids can one day have the opportunity to work on a mine site like us and hopefully share our same outlook on recycling. It’s the small things the minority do, which will hopefully inspire everyone else to do the same and keep out planet alive.” - Josh Gall (The Man) and Dylan Thwaites (Bigdog)

“Here at Yandi we are doing our little bit in recycling all the glass, cardboard, cans, food scraps and polystyrene. By setting a good example we will hopefully get other companies and individuals to follow the same lead either on site or at home. Individuals here at Yandi can assist by placing recyclable items in the appropriate recycling bins that are placed in the common areas and throughout the village. All these little things together will make a big difference to our local and global communities.” - Henk vanderLei (Henky)

MORRIS CHRISTMAS GIFT APPEALMorris Windibri and Kenya have partnered with the Baptist Church to help bring some cheer to local families in need over Christmas. The two sites have organised a Christmas Gift Appeal to help struggling families and children in need this Christmas. Donated presents will be distributed to families in the local Chinchilla region in time for Christmas.

Assistant Village Manager, Shelley Ludeke said “When we started this appeal, we had two beautiful Christmas trees at each camp without presents underneath them – it has been great to see them

slowly filling up with donations by Morris staff and QGC residents.”

The gifts will be presented on behalf of QGC (Tina McMah – QGC Camp Coordinator) and Morris (Shelley Ludeke – Kenya Assistant Village Manager) at the Chinchilla Baptist Church on the 23rd December.

CHRISTMAS @ BASE CAMPBy Kim MacElroy (Village Manager)

Our lucky residents at Base Camp Chinchilla enjoyed a spectacular Christmas treat complete with seafood and delectable desserts.

Leanne (Base Camp Chef) worked tirelessly to complete the desserts for the ‘Christmas Seafood Extravaganza’. Leanne is one of the most flexible yet committed employees that I have ever had the privilege of working with.

For December, the table cloths in our dining room have been transformed with the help of the Chinchilla State School Year 6 students (pictured below right). It is wonderful to provide a personal touch to our residents who are away from family and it even got the attention of the local paper.

Merry Christmas everyone from the Base Camp team! :)
