Information on Bats Provides a Link to Human HealthCAPITAL REGION – How does information and educa-

tion about “bats of the world” provide “informative hu-

man health news”? Rabies, a viral disease, kills 55,000

people world-wide each year; use of poisons in and

around a home or business to rid unwanted wild animals

is a potential health hazard for humans; loss of habitat

due to increased land development equals loss of species

that pollinate the earth (fruit eating bats are major pollina-

tors & seed distributors); farmers are concerned about the

impact of increased pesticide use on crops due to the loss

of insect-eating bats. A newly identifi ed fungus, White

Nose Syndrome, has killed over one million bats in the

last four years. This fungus began near Howes Cave and

has spread to 19 states and 4 Canadian Provinces. The US

Fish and Wildlife Service is implementing a national plan

to coordinate and manage the investigation and response

to White Nose Syndrome in bats. Along with research

and disease surveillance, this will ensure better health for

all. Learn more at www.yearofthebat.org or www.batcon.

Immaculate Virgin, assist me in my necessity. Oh, Star of the Sea, help me and show me, herein you are my mother. Oh, Holy Mary, Mother of God, Queen of Heaven and Earth! Oh, Mary con-ceived without sin, pray for us who have recourse to thee (3x). Holy Mother, I place this cause in your hands (3x). Sweet Mother, I place this cause in your hands (3x). Holy Spirit, you who solve all problems, light all roads so that I can attain my goal, you who gave me the divine gift to forgive and forget all evil against me and that in all instances in my life you are with me. I want in this short prayer to thank you for all things as you confirm once again that I never want to be separated from you in eternal glory. Thank you for your mercy towards me and mine.
