Emerich Sales & Service, Inc. was started in 1968 by Anna Mae and Arthur Emerich, Jr. They originally began selling snowmobiles in their house garage. Art wanted a snowmobile and so did his brother in law. So they went to a distributor and were told they would have to purchase six ma-chines in order to be a dealer. Art thought he could sell them so he got the six. They did sell to neighbors and friends so he got six more. At that time he repaired them in the garage and their breeze-way was the offi ce. Anna Mae sold spark plugs and belts during the day or when Art was not there. Art at that time drove tractor and trailer and delivered hay and straw. Snowmobiles sold better than he thought and the repairs were more than he thought. One day he came to Anna Mae and said I have decided to sell the tractor and trailers and stay home with you and do just the snowmobile business. In 1972 he decided to build a building and also to take on lawn mowers and tractors. He started with Snapper and Wheel Horse. He did well with them and soon took on more names. Toro was a good mate for us because the products were made well and sold well.

In 1997 Art Emerich, Jr. passed away with cancer. His son Kevin Emerich took over the business with no problem because he had been working with his Dad for many years. Since then Kevin has taken on many more brands with Kubota as one of the main ones. Toro has been one of our main lines all these years. Over the years Toro has had many accomplishments. It was founded in 1914. In 1930 Toro introduced the fi rst power mower for homeowners, in 1951 the fi rst snowthrower. In 1997 they acquired Exmark Manufacturing. The most popular mower they have now is the Zero Turn mower.

Emerich has a large service department which can service all makes of mowers and tractors. They have factory trained mechanics that perform all repairs. From December 1 to February 28 they have a pre-spring special which gives the customer Free pick up and delivery plus 10% off parts. They are a family owned business to this day with Kevin Emerich, his wife Becky and Anna Mae still hanging in there together. They enjoy being with customers every day and have some of the same customers since they began the business.

Information on Bats Provides a Link to Human HealthCAPITAL REGION – How does information and education about “bats of the world” provide “informative human health news”? Rabies, a viral disease, kills 55,000 people world-wide each year; use of poisons in and around a home or business to rid unwanted wild animals is a potential health hazard for humans; loss of habitat due to increased land development equals loss of spe-cies that pollinate the earth (fruit eating bats are major pollinators & seed distributors); farmers are concerned about the impact of increased pesticide use on crops due to the loss of insect-eating bats. A newly identifi ed fungus, White Nose Syndrome, has killed over one million bats in the last four years. This fungus began near Howes Cave and has spread to 19 states and 4 Canadian Provinces. The US Fish and Wildlife Service is implementing a national plan to coordinate and manage the investigation and response to White Nose Syndrome in bats. Along with research and disease surveillance, this will ensure better health for all. Learn more at www.yearofthebat.org or www.batcon.org (P)

(MS) -- For years, the 3,000 mile mark has been touted as the optimum interval for changing your motor oil and fi lter. It's also an oil change interval that continues to be encouraged by the automotive oil change industry. Automobile manufacturers, oil fi lter manufacturers and lubricant manufacturers are now saying that you can safely extend oil drain intervals, saving you time, money and reducing the impact on the environment.

Breakthroughs in lubrication and fi ltration are two reasons why oil change intervals can safely be extended. Numer-ous factors come in to play in determining the oil change interval you should follow, includ-ing whether your car is under warranty, the car's condition, the way you drive it, as well as oil and fi lter selection.

Every automobile man-ufacturer establishes a recommended oil change interval for each model they manufacture. Oil change intervals are now typically 5,000 to 7,500 miles for many new cars. You should follow your car manufacturer's recommendations on oil and fi lter change intervals while the car is under warranty. If your car is no longer under warranty, you can extend your oil change and fi lter intervals by upgrading to a high quality synthetic motor oil and high performance oil fi lter. This will reduce the number of oil changes, saving you time and money while reducing the amount of oil purchased and disposed.

There are a number of quality synthetic motor oils available from which to choose. High per-formance synthetic motor oils such as Royal Purple, Mobil1, etc., typically have much greater oxidation stability than conventional mineral-based motor oils. Most lubricant manufacturers will give a recommended number of miles you can drive between oil changes under normal conditions.

If you elect to upgrade your motor oil, you should also upgrade your oil fi lter. Inexpensive fi lters are typically made with the 3,000 mile interval in mind. These fi lters often use low-quality paper media for fi ltration and they deteriorate rapidly after 3,000 miles.

There are a number of new high performance premium oil fi lters on the market from manufactur-ers such as Royal Purple, Wix and K&N. These fi lters are made for extended oil drain intervals. For example, Royal Purple uses a proprietary long-life, micro-glass media that provides protec-tion for 12,000 miles. It also provides an increased level of protection due to the density of the fi ltration. You can fi nd out more at www.royalpurple.com

If your car is still under warranty, stick with the car manufacturer's recommended oil change intervals. If your car is no longer under warranty, you can go beyond the typical 3,000 mile oil change or beyond the oil change monitor's recommendations by upgrading to a high performance synthetic motor oil and high performance oil fi lter. Just be sure to check recommended change interval for both the oil and fi lter your purchase.
