A 45-year veteran in the newspaper industry, Smith also worked for The Village Voice, Newsday and the New York Post prior to being hired by Hearst Newspapers to lead CRWNG. CRWNG is comprised of 10 publications serving Rensselaer, Saratoga, No. Albany and Schenectady Counties with a circulation of over 155,000 and is owned by the Hearst Corporation. HOST FAMILIES NEEDED
CAPITAL DISTRICT - The Doane Stuart School in Rensselaer, NY is in their second year of their inter-national student program. The school recently an-nounced it will be bring-ing in even more students in the fall. So the school is looking for host families within a 30-minute radius of the school. Most of the current students plan to graduate from Doane Stu-art and hopefully get into an American college or university. The schools have noted that being so far from home and doing something so important can be a lot of pressure on these students, and that a good host family can make all of the differ-ence to these students. The students look to their hosts and peers to learn about American culture. For instance, many of the students who have never seen snow have taken an interest in snowboarding and also snow tubing. The students are from various parts of China and have very diverse interests. Some of the students have become very interested in basketball and play on the high school team and others have formed bonds based on a mutual appreci-ation of video games. The
students have even cre-ated a Chinese Club at the school to teach American students about Chinese customs and traditions. To learn more about the pro-gram visit www.gphome-stay.com or e-mail [email protected]

This effort was be-gun by floydwarriors.com founder Lisa Morahan after experiencing Easter Sunday in 2009 too ill to make one basket up for her son while in the middle of chemotherapy treatment. In 2010 enough toys and candy were collected to make up 100 baskets, 135 in 2011, 190 in 2012 and 225 in 2013. Our goal is to collect enough new small toys and candy for 250 baskets this year! Subaru “Share the Love” Check Presentation to Mohawk Hudson Humane Society at Goldstein Subaru
Menands, NY – On Saturday, March 15, Goldstein Subaru and Subaru of America presented a check to the Mohawk Hudson Humane Society (MHHS) and announced the
results of the annual 2013 “Share the Love” campaign which began in December 2013.
To celebrate the record-setting year for the "Empties for Animals" recycling program, the Society also presented a special award to the Goldstein Auto Group for their program partnership, which began in 2011. e "Empties for Animals" bottle and can recycling income was a little over $109,000 for 2013, an increase over 2012 total of $99,000. In 2011, the program totaled close to $74,000. MHHS volunteers sort the bottles and cans by distributor and as a result, the Society receives 8 cents per can and bottle instead of the typical 5 cents. e Goldstein Auto Group encourages people to drop bottle and can donations at each of their dealerships and their special "Empties for Animals" van delivers them to the Society and will even pick up large donations. For every new Subaru purchased or leased from Goldstein Subaru, 1754 Central Avenue in Albany, from November 21, 2013 and through January 2, 2014, Subaru of America donated $250.00 to the owner’s choice of participating charities. Goldstein Subaru partnered with the Mohawk Hudson Humane Society for the annual year-end campaign and kicked-o the program on Saturday, November 23rd with a Share the Love Pet Adoption Event. e Society, located at 3 Oakland Avenue in Menands, is open for adoptions seven days a week, Monday through Friday from 10AM to 6PM, Saturday from 10AM to 5PM and Sunday 1PM to 4PM. In addition, cats are available for adoption at the Society’s satellite locations at the PetSmart stores in Glenmont and Latham as well as the Petco store in Cli on Park. For moreinformation, contact (518) 434-8128 or visit www.mohawkhumane.org.

My name is Dexter. I am a sweet, gentle soul who wants a home of my own. I have had a somewhat
tough, stressful life previous to coming to the shelter. I was found as a stray, and the folks around here
think I’m about 7 years old. I do have alopecia, as you may notice, but I will probably get my coat back once I’m given a good stable home and healthy diet. Please
visit with me and give me some chin rubs!
Skittles is the type of dog you would love to have around your house. She is just a plain, good-old
mutt who also happens to be 'cute as a bug's ear'. Skittles is friendly, loyal, and good-natured.
This girl is easy to be around and will bring a smile to your face.
