THE FAMILY OF William (Bill) Gaba would like to ex- press their gratitude for the support and prayers during this most difficult time. The family would like to acknowl- edge the professional cour- tesy extended and presence of the Saratoga County Sher- iff’s Department, NYS Troop- ers, local fire departments, lo- cal and long distance towing/recovery companies, ambulances, EMTs, para- medic vehicles, area busi- ness owners, friends and family who expressed their sympathy at Bill’s services and the kindness extended throughout; this has helped to lighten our burden and was a tremendous blessing. Bill will be sadly missed by friends and family. The Gaba Family is honored to continue serv- ing the public with its towing/recovery & auto parts business. A scholarship in Bill’s name is being formed that will assist in funding the education of young firefight- ers. Thank you for your pa- tronage and we look forward to continue serving you. College is a time when many students form friendships and make memories that last a lifetime. College is also a time when students learn to stretch a dollar, and the right gift come the holiday season can have a big impact on a college student’s life. The following are a few gift ideas that may help make your favorite student’s second semester a success.
Help college students this holiday season
* Books and supplies: Textbooks and supplies remain one of the biggest expenses for today’s college students. According to the College Board, a not-for-profit organization aimed at help-ing college students be successful, the average cost for books and supplies during the 2011-2012 school year was roughly $1,200. Such an expense can be daunting for college students, and relatives can help them out come the holidays by paying for a portion or all of their second semester textbooks and supplies. Such a gesture might not make the most sentimental holiday gift, but it’s a practical present that will go a long way toward helping a financially struggling student pay his or her bills.
* Travel: College students who want to study abroad or travel for spring break must bankroll those travels themselves. In ad-dition, some students struggle to pay for their travel back home during the holiday season or during other breaks from class. Adults who want to lend a college student a helping hand this holiday season can offer to help pay those travel costs. Men and women who travel a lot for work might be able to use their airline miles to secure a free or low-cost ticket for the college student in their life.
* Computer accessories and programs: Of course, not all gifts need to be financially oriented. Practical gifts like computer ac-cessories can also make a great gift for college students. Nowa-days, many colleges and universities require incoming students to have their own desktop or laptop computers. Students with
their own laptops might appreciate new laptop bags that make it easier to transport their computers to and from classes and the library. In addition, some majors, such as graphic design, require that students use ever-evolving and expensive com-puter software. These programs are often installed on comput-ers in the university’s labs, but students may perform better in school if they install such programs on their own computers. Upgrading students’ computer software can save them money and help them do better in school.
* Gaming consoles: Another great gift for college students is the latest video gaming console. Though such a gift might not be as virtuous as new textbooks or computer programs, a gaming console can help students unwind from the stresses of schoolwork. Today’s college students grew up with gaming consoles and many are avid gamers, so a new gaming console can also be a great way for them to make new friends who share similar interests.

SpiceDomestic Short Hair Mix
2 Year Old Female, Black/TanHello there, I’m pretty Spice, a tortoiseshell girl. Most
torties have coats that are black with a little orange, but my coat has a real lot of orange, quite unusual. I’m a gentle and mellow cat and I enjoy petting. However, I prefer not to be picked up. Recently I was living the stray life in Albany and
that was no fun. I’m glad to be safe and warm now, and I will be happy to visit with you when you come by.
BabeDomestic Short Hair Mix2 Year Old Male, Orange
My name is Babe, and I am a handsome orange fellow. My tail is very long, and the last few inches are nearly white, quite unusual. I have a lovely pink nose. My for-
mer family could not keep me due to financial problems. I am so looking forward to going home so I can be pet-ted and brushed a lot. I feel shy here in the shelter so I
need a bit of coaxing to relax. Maybe that’s why I haven’t gone home yet. But I assure you I am a very wonderful boy. I am a friendly and playful and I will roll and purr for you. Take me home and we can play ball together!

1 Year Old Male, White/BrownPatches is a handsome, young pittie/Dalmatian mix.

THANK YOU ST. JUDE. Acknowledging prayers re- ceived from St. Jude for my daughter SRP. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for your understanding and compassion to my prayers! PRAYER TO THE BLESSED VIRGIN (Never known to fail)Oh, most beautiful flower of Mt. Carmel, fruitful vine splendor of Heaven. Blessed Mother of the Son of God. Immaculate Virgin, assist me in my necessity. Oh, Star of the Sea, help me and show me, herein you are my mother. Oh, Holy Mary, Mother of God, Queen of Heaven and Earth! I humbly beseech you from the bottom of my heart to answer me in this necessity. There are none that can withstand your power. Oh, show me herein you are my mother. Oh, Mary con- ceived without sin, pray for us who have recourse to thee (3x). Holy Mother, I place this cause in your hands (3x). Sweet Mother, I place this cause in your hands (3x). Holy Spirit, you who solve all problems, light all roads so that I can attain my goal, you who gave me the divine gift to forgive and forget all evil against me and that in all instances in my life you are with me. I want in this short prayer to thank you for all things as you confirm once again that I never want to be separated from you in eternal glory. Thank you for your mercy towards me and mine. The person must say this prayer 3 consecutive days, after 3 days the request will be granted. This prayer must be published after the favor is granted. Thank you for favor received. C.P.
THANK YOUThe family of William (Bill) Gaba would like to express their grati- tude for the support and prayers during this most difficult time. The family would like to acknowledge the professional courtesy ex- tended and presence of the Sara- toga County Sheriff’s Department, NYS Troopers, local fire depart- ments, local and long distance towing/recovery companies, am- bulances, EMTs, paramedic vehi- cles, area business owners, friends and family who expressed their sympathy at Bill’s services and the kindness extended throughout; this has helped to lighten our burden and was a tre- mendous blessing. Bill will be sadly missed by friends and fam- ily. The Gaba Family is honored to continue serving the public with its towing/recovery & auto parts busi- ness. A scholarship in Bill’s name is being formed that will assist in funding the education of young firefighters. Thank you for your pa- tronage and we look forward to continue serving you. The Family of Bill Gaba, Sara, Jim & Lori

Did you know?Primary mortgage insurance, or PMI, protects lenders in the event that borrowers default on their primary mortage by ceasing to make payments, resulting in homes ending up in foreclo-sure. But all borrowers do not have to pay PMI. Typically, home buyers must make a 20 percent down payment on a home when they buy it. However, some borrowers are unable to put down 20 percent. In such instances, the lender will require they pay PMI. This is because the lender views a borrower who cannot make an initial 20 percent down payment as a riskier investment, and lenders charge PMI in an effort to protect themselves should the borrower prove worthy of their skepticism. PMI will be factored into the monthly mortgage payment, but borrowers should know they do not have to continue paying PMI once they have paid enough toward the principal amount of the loan. For most, this means once they have paid 20 percent of the principal, then they can ask that the monthly PMI payment be removed. Manyborrowers are unaware of this or even forget to ask, but it’s within their rights as borrowers and can save a substantial amount of money over the course of the mortgage loan.

(StatePoint) Job hunting can be a frustrating experience. Many times you can apply for what seems like the perfect job only to never hear back. With most open positions receiving an overwhelming number of applicants these days, it’s extremely important to set yourself apart from the pack.
The most essential part of landing an interview is your résumé. Often your résumé is the only representation of you a hiring manager has. Typi-
Four Essential Tips To Make The Most Of Your Résumé
cally, employers don’t spend more than a minute or two looking over a résumé -- a small amount of time to make a great impression.
“Landing an interview for the job you want is hard enough, especially now with so many people going after the same position,” says Michael McAuliffe, President of Family Credit Manage-ment, a non-profit consumer credit counseling service. “If your résumé contains flaws, from poor choice in wording to an overly-complicated format, then your chances of getting a call go from slim to none.”
Give yourself every chance possible to get the job. Make your résumé stand out among the crowd by following these four tips.
Proofread!
A misspelling or grammatical error on a resume could lead to your résumé getting tossed out at first glance. Use spell check and have a friend or family member look it over as well. You never know where an error could be lurking on the page.
Get Expert Help
Expert résumé review, such as the service offered by Family Credit Management, can be an invaluable resource for any job-seeker. Seasoned hiring professionals look over résumés to cor-rect any mistakes and offer advice as to how the résumé can be improved and be better received by prospective employers. Some companies charge for this service, but non-profits like Family Credit Management offer their expertise for free.
You can e-mail [email protected] to get feedback on your résumé and cover letter. You can also find contact information and more information about Family Credit Management’s services at www.familycredit.org.
Be Appropriate
A major red flag for hiring managers is an inappropriate email address. You don’t want to be remembered as a joke, you want to stand out for your abilities. “With free email services like Hotmail, Gmail and Yahoo, there is no reason not to have a generic email address consisting simply of your name,” says McAuliffe.
Formatting
Hiring managers need to be able to quickly find the information that matters most to the position. Using an unusual format could cause some of your accomplishments to get lost in the jumble. Make it as simple as possible for the hiring manager and stick with a traditional format.
So take good care of your résumé. It is the first step to landing the job you want.

Albany, NY (October 15, 2012) –Do you have a love for animals and want to support a great local cause? Join with the Goldstein Auto Group and bring your empty bottles and cans to a Goldstein dealership and support the Mohawk Hudson Humane Society. The Mohawk Hudson Humane Society’s “Empties For Animals” campaign helps support the mission of the organization, including sheltering, adoption, education, advocacy and the prevention of cruelty to animals. This year’s goal is to raise $125,000, in honor of the Society’s 125th Anniversary. To reach the goal, the Goldstein Auto Group will need to collect more than 1,500,000 cans and bottles. The 2012 "Empties For Animals” campaign has raised over $73,000 thru Sept. 2012, an increase of $17,638 or 33% over the same period last year. The 2011 campaign raised a total of more than $74,000 and col-lected 925,000 cans and bottles. Volunteers sorted all those bottles and cans, based on the originating distributor, which in turn gener-ated $.08 per can or bottle instead of the regular $.05 redemption
fee paid at stores. Monies from the program were used to benefit the more than 6,500 animals cared for by the Society in 2011. “We are very pleased to continue our partnership with the Mohawk Hudson Humane Society and support the 2012 “Empties For Animals” campaign. We would like to thank all of our customers and the members of the community who have generously donated to such a worthy cause,” said Alan Goldstein, President of Goldstein Auto Group.

AAAAAWARDWARDWARDWARDWARD W W W W WINN I NGI N N I NGI N N I NGI N N I NGI N N I NG W W W W WINESI N E SI N E SI N E SI N E SSix years ago when owners Sue Goold Miller and her husband Ed opened the BrookviewStation Winery, they hoped for 2 things… first, that the wine would be good... andsecond, that the winery would become a year-round destination for tourists and arearesidents alike.Shortly after introducing their first wine, a semi-dry apple wine “Whistle Stop White”was honored as 2007’s “Best Hudson River Region Wine.” It was an amazing honor forthe first Brookview Station wine and just the boost the winery needed to keep guestscoming to its tasting room. This past year Brookview Station wines garnered 16 morenational and international wine medals. The highlight of the award season came inSeptember when “Whistle Stop White” was again named “Best Hudson River RegionFruit Wine.”Since opening in 2006, wine operations have expanded to twelve different wine variet-ies and three varieties of wine grapes grown at the farm. “This fall we released ‘JoeDaddy’s Hard Cider’. We have been asked since we opened the winery about making ahard cider. Goold Orchards is known for our fresh apple cider, so it really was an easydecision to try a hard cider,” said Sue Goold Miller. “It’s only offered at the winery andhas been quite popular. This holiday season we are offering ‘Joe Daddy’s Apple Cran-berry Hard Cider’.”Brookview Station Winery is open year round and is available to host private parties, bus groups and corporate events. It is the first stop along the Hudson Berkshire Bever-age Trail. For more on the Brookview Station Winery, please visit www.brookviewstationwinery.com
