Year 6 Graduation

We are ecstatic that we can invite parents/carers to participate in this milestone event.Year 6 Graduation will go ahead on Monday 14 December under the school COLA starting at 6pm. To meet COVID-19 restrictions it will be a graduation ceremony followed by cake cutting and a disco for students. Each Year 6 student will be able to have two adults attend the ceremony. All adults attending the ceremony will be required to complete a COVID-19 visitor attendance form providing their contact details and sign the attendance sheet on arrival. Social distancing requirements will need to be maintained throughout the ceremony with all adults to remain seated.

Presentation Day 2020At the end of week 4 we will receive further advice on how presentation days are allowed to be conducted in 2020. Our presentation day will be held during school hours on Thursday 10 December. Advice on how parents/carers can be involved will be provided in the week 5 Kalori.

PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE

Dear Parents/Carers

The start of term has certainly been a very busy time for everyone. The students have all done an outstanding job of engaging in their learning, Gala rehearsals, Book Week celebrations and striving to meet our PBL expectations. The number of WOW cards being given out in recognition of all their efforts each week has been amazing and they are certainly well deserved.

In recognition of the efforts our students have made and the impact of COVID-19 on the school year, an excursion has been arranged to Altina Wildlife Park on Friday 13th November as part of ourPBL reward day. This excursion is FREE to allstudents thanks to the P&C offering to fundhalf of the cost. Students will need to be atschool to catch the bus by 8am that morningFurther details and consent forms will beprovided closer to the day.

I thank all parents who provided positive feedback on our school dog initiative. We will be moving ahead and arranging for the initial assessment of Mabel to be undertaken at Henty PS in the next week or two. We hope she will then become a regular member of our school community. Ms Fiona Hoath R/Principal

Staff and students are busy preparing for our production of Shrek. On Tuesday 3rd November (next Tuesday) we will be filming our production for your enjoyment. Year 6 have been busy learning lines and creating props and all classes have been learning some fabulous items.

On Thursday 12th November each family will receive a copy of our production on USB free of charge. We are hoping all families will join us in having a‘Premier Night’ on Thursday 12th November and all watch the production in the comfort of your own home on the same night.

So get the popcorn ready and pop Thursday 12th November on your calendar for a family night in front of the TV screen.

YEAR 4/5 PURPLE

We have begun Term 4 with some changes to the daily teaching and learning structure. Mrs Quinn teaches word study and writing to Year 4 and Year 5 stay with Mrs Malmo. We then split the students into two groups for Mathematics. This program has proven to me most successful and the students have adapted beautifully.

The Geography unit, ‘Our Island Home’ leads the students through tasks that explore environments, climate zones and natural vegetation. So far we have learnt about the different climate zones of the world, average temperatures and rainfall of many cities around the world and thermal conductivity. This is a fascinating unit that is exposing all of us to a vast list of technical word and terms.

The students have been working hard on the class dance and it is coming together beautifully. We can’t wait to perform it next week and we hope all families enjoy our ‘rebellious’ little act!

We are thoroughly enjoying buddy reading with Kinder and Years 1/2. The older students have learned that clever selection of texts will keep their younger peers engaged. They’ve also discovered some excellent readers in the younger years. Apart from the learning experience, it is lovely to make social connections with so many students in our school.

Mrs Malmo

Tennis Tournament

We have put the tennis net up and are beginning to plan the annual tennis tournament for students in Year 3-6. Students will be able to sign up for this event. More info to come.

Cricket Session

On Friday 20th November we are lucky enough to have Mr White come and host some cricket sessions for our sport. Students will rotate through some cricket activities. A great alternative considering we have missed our Super 8’s cricket gala day this year due to Covid-19 restrictions. These cricket activities will run during sport time for our primary classes.

BOOK WEEK PARADEThank you to all the staff and students who came to school on Friday as a book character or curious creature. Luckily the rain held off so we could parade our costumes to those who came to see the parade along the fence line. It was great that we could also share the morning with the preschool. Books purchased from the Book Fair were sent home on Friday. There are a few books that were quite popular and we will need to order these and sent them out when they arrive. Thank you to everyone who purchased. We have earned approximately $400 in books for the school.
