Five Ways Environmental Project Last Friday students from Year 4 went to the Five Ways Reserve to work with local members of the Murrumbidgee Landcare Group to plant trees in the Five Ways Laneway Project beside the reserve. There were 18 very enthusiastic students and 3 staff members, who assisted in planting over 300 trees. They were supervised by Peter and Alison Campbell, Steven Scott and Kellie Male. The adults present showed the children how to plant the trees, stake and place the tree guards around them, as well as water them in.The children learned to identify many native plants and shrubs. We were fortunate to see an Eastern Bearded Dragon, much to the children’s’ delight. Thank you to Murrumbidgee Landcare who supported us with transport, facilities and refreshments on the day. We hope to visit the site again soon to check on the progress of the trees. To the local Landcare members, thank you all for your patience and support on the day, we were very appreciative.
School UpgradesYou will start to notice different works beginning around our school from tomorrow. The netball court upgrade, storm water upgrade and painting of buildings are necessary for our school. While they will cause small changes in routine for a short period of time, we look forward to the long term benefits.I ask everyone to show caution and common sense around these areas while the works are being completed.Assessment WeekYour child will participate in different in-class assessments next week. These assessments are just one way teachers collate data to help make judgements for student reports. Please encourage students to do their best and not feel overwhelmed. HatsJust a reminder students are required to wear hats in term 4. Otherwise they will need to play under the COLA.

Kindergarten - Claire RossThis week we welcome pre-school students for our next Kindergarten transition visit from 10:45am-11:45am on Friday. All 2016 Kindergarten students are encouraged to bring a teddy for a teddy bears’ picnic. This week our focus sounds are oy as in boy, ow as in down and ou as in out.Core sight words for this week are red, out and be. Please remember to revise these daily along with your daily home reading. In Creative Arts this term, we are investigating the theme of ‘Fireworks’. We have been looking at different displays of fireworks on the interactive whiteboard and are focusing on the colours, lines and shapes they make. Congratulations to those students who have recently received a WOW value card. These cards link to our whole school behaviour expectations. Please ask your children to explain this to you.
Year 1 / Year 2Emma Byles / Sarah SheatherWell done to those children and thank you to those parents and carers who have helped to ensure we have the essential equipment in the classroom. It is important that our time is used wisely for our learning and not wasted on trying to get organised.This week our spelling focus is oy=boy, oi=coin, eer=deer, ear=ear amd in maths we are continuing to test and develop our addition and subtraction skills. Last week hopefully children began thinking about and planning for their class speech. This week start to prepare your speech and publish if you are happy with your effort! Year 2 / Year 3Jolonna Brand / Justin GrahamOur study of Graeme Base continues this week with us getting closer to solving the mystery of who ate the banquet in ‘The Eleventh Hour’.In Mathematics, we are starting to make connections in relationship between Division and Multiplication.We are building on from our prior knowledge in this terms science unit “Information Technology”

Year 4 / Year 5 - Mary ListonEnvironmental: Last Friday Year 4 students went on the tree planting activity, see main story and photos. A great day was had by all and they are very keen to do the activity again, which we hope to next year.Science, we have commenced using technology as a means of communication and information. We are creating and using Scratch, with most students making terrific progress and discovering how much they can create.We have a new Home Learning contract for this term and while most students are doing well, we have a number of people who are catching up at school. It would be great if all of this work could be completed at home and it will not impact their time at school. Band: Our annual band concert will take place on Tuesday November 29th, from 10.30 to 11.30. Students are busy practising and working on their ensemble pieces together, which is terrific to see their cooperation and enthusiasm.
Year 5 / Year 6 - Joanne MalmoWe began a science investigation last week that requires the students to observe germination of seeds under a variety of conditions. The students will be required to present their observations (taken over a 3 week period) using the Excel program.Last Friday the students received the outline of a project due on Friday 4th November. The project will be assessed according to the student’s knowledge of the discovery of gold, the skills used and the effort expended. I look forward to viewing the various representations of this interesting time in Australia’s European history.Today, the students received the list of requirements for the upcoming excursion. Please read carefully and feel free to see me regarding any queries that may arise. I am interested in hearing from you if your child has particular needs and I will require a comprehensive list of medications your child may bring along.

The school disco for Years 3-6 will be held on Thursday 24th November from 5:30pm-
7.00pm. The theme for the disco is ‘Around The World’ and the Year 3/4 students are
required to bring supper to share. The disco will coincide with the P&C
meeting.

This term our School participated in Ascent Footwear’s Lace Tying Lessons!
Ascent Footwear works closely with the Podiatry community and The Athlete’s Foot to ensure they are meeting the needs of
Australian school kids feet. Part of this commitment is educating students about a range of foot health issues from learning how
to tie shoe laces to basic foot biomechanics.
The lessons are totally free and the kids take home their own lace tying certificate and 9 step guide so they can keep practicing at home!

Henty Public School 2016 Kindergarten Transition Days
Henty Public School is offering the following transition days for pre-school aged children. These days will assist your family in becoming familiar with our school.

COMMUNITY NEWS
Red Ball TennisRed Ball Tennis Gala Day will be held this Friday 28th October. Teams for Years 3, 4 and 5 will be competing. Only students in Year 3 and 4 can advance to next level. Please remember to come in school sports uniform and have a hat, sunscreen,insect repellent and adequate food and drink, as there will be no food available at courts. You do not need to bring a racquet as they are a specific size and are supplied.
Intensive SwimmingThe intensive swim program will be offered again this year and all students from K-Year 4 will be tested on their ability to swim a lap of the pool on Friday 11th November. Students in Year 5 and 6 will be away on excursion but will be tested on Monday 11th November. Remember this is not stroke correction, it just checks that a child can competently swim 25m of the pool. This means all students will need a pool membership or can pay each day. There will be a cost involved for all students participating due to the hire of the pool; this information will be forwarded when we know the numbers participating. Cost of instruction is provided free.

Participants to collect town map detailing houses participating from the Vintage Coffee Shoppe during
business hours on Monday 31st October 2016. ALL TOWNS WELCOME TO PARTICIPATE!
*All children under age of 13 MUST be supervised by an adult.
DESPERATELY need houses to participate as stops for the trick or treaters!! 20 houses would be great! All that is required of a registered stop house is to purchase some treats (please allow for roughly 150 kids) and leave your front lights on between
6.30 and 8.30pm for the kids to easily identify your house. Kids are often advised not to knock if lights not on.
If you are interested in listing your house as a stop and giving our kids a wonderful night of harmless fun, please
