Kalori Term 4 - Week 6 19 November 2019 Respect, Honesty, Responsibility – RHR – That’s Who We Are Meryula St Narromine NSW 2821 P: 02 68894566 F: 02 68894451 E: [email protected] Denise Toohey – Principal AEO Network Meeting Our very talented cultural dance students presented a wonderful welcome to the regional Aboriginal Education Officers who met at Narromine Public school today for their network meeting. Thank you to the students involved. Presentation Day Assembly We would like to invite our school community to join us in celebrating our students’ achievements at our annual Presentation Day on Wednesday 4 December at 9.30am in the school hall. Kungala 2019 Kungala, the school year book, is now available for purchase through the school office for $20. This wonderful collection of memories and activities from the year will also be available for purchase at the Presentation Day Assembly. School Swimming Scheme The students from Year 2 and those students requiring additional confidence in swimming (3-6) have commenced this year’s School Swimming Scheme. Ms Hall and her team of teachers and support staff are encouraging the students to attend all lessons as each day counts in water confidence skills. The program runs for two weeks, the weather forecast is predicting hot days so please slip, slop, slap, slide (sun protection). The School Swimming Scheme is a free service for students; Narromine Public School has pre-paid entry for the pool for each child, therefore please remind your little people to come prepared to swim. It’s a vital life skill in Australia. Attendance Term 4 is well and truly underway and the end of the year is definitely in sight. To all parents, a reminder regarding the importance of ensuring that your children are at school at least ten minutes prior to the morning bell. This is to give them time to be ready for the day. The numbers of late slips being given out in the morning are increasing. It is up to the parent, not the child, to ensure they are on time. Far too many students will be receiving attendance letters this week. I urge all parents / carers who receive such a letter to read it carefully. Absenteeism, especially parent supported absences are one of our biggest concerns. We really need you as parents and carers to support us by ensuring your child/children attend school every day they are well.

School Uniform The warmer weather is upon us and as such, we are having a large increase in the number of jumpers and jackets making their way into lost property. The P&C go through the lost property fortnightly and those items labelled are swiftly returned. Those not labelled obviously are different; they make their way to the second hand uniform box in the canteen. Please check all student uniforms are labelled with your child’s name in an obvious location on the garment. 2019 Wudhagaragarra Awards The Wudhagaragarra Awards celebrate and recognise innovation, excellence and achievement in Aboriginal Education in New South Wales Public Schools and schooling communities. Awards are presented by key DET leaders to selected high-achieving Aboriginal students, Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal teachers, staff, community members and schools. We would like to celebrate and congratulate Jonah Moss, Lily Walker and Kerrie Walden on their recognition and success. 2020 Student Leadership Student leadership plays an important role in the community of Narromine Public School, our student leaders have a very strong voice in the SRC, they assist with formal and informal occasions, assemblies and ceremonies. We are extremely proud to announce of 2020 leadership team: School Captains Jessica Woods and Fraser Gill and Prefects Cody Rose, Bryce Dixon, Connor Daley, Addison Mackay, Heidi Turnbull and Eadie Wilson. I greatly look forward to working with our new team and wish them the very best as they commence their leadership journey. Year 6 Photos We are producing a digital display for our Year 6 Farewell which is being held on Thursday, 12 December at the Narromine Aero Club. For this display we would like three photographs of our Year 6 children, one from their early years, pre-school and a recent photograph. It would be appreciated if the photos were emailed to Mrs Hilder on her school email [email protected] Or you can bring them to the office and we can scan them. Photos need to be at school by Friday 29 November. No late photos will be accepted due to the time it takes to produce the display.

Maths Matters

Students of 2N have explored different healthy options and ideas of foods they could bring for lunch one or lunch two. As a class they thought about important factors when shopping for and packing school lunches. They decided that taste, convenience and cost were the three most important. Together, they created a twist on Miss Briggs’s vegetable frittata recipe and created their own for mini taco quiches. On Thursday 14 November, 2N had a cooking lesson in the high school’s kitchen. They

enjoyed experimenting with different flavours, following the recipe they created, measuring and mixing! All the students were fantastic taste testers!

Fruit UP Our Fruit UP sessions which see our students trying a new seasonal fruit or vegetable each week have been very successful. Students have sampled carrots, celery, blueberries, strawberries, grapes, cucumber sticks, cherry tomatoes, broccoli cheddar bites, cherries and many more. A very big thank you to Miss Rapone who provided the cherries fresh from her family farm last week. We thought you might enjoy making the delicious broccoli cheddar bites so have included the recipe.

Community

Broccoli Cheddar Bites • 1 large broccoli floret (approx. 2-2.5 cups when steamed) • 2 eggs lightly beaten • ½ cup torn fresh bread, crusts removed • 1 cup shredded cheese • ¼ cup mayonnaise

Preheat oven to 180 degrees. Stream broccoli and chop. Place lightly beaten eggs and torn bread into a large bowl. Mix until bread is completely moistened adding mayonnaise and broccoli. Grease muffin tins with olive oil. Distribute the mixture into the muffin tins and bake at 180 degrees for approx. 25 mins or until cooked through and lightly brown on top. If you don’t have a muffin tin you can cook the mixture in large dollops on grease proof paper. Eat and enjoy!
