Celebration of Swimmers

Congratulations to the swimmers who represented Narromine Public School at the NARRAF

Gobonderry carnival in Warren and a big thank you to our many supporters who cheered our

squad on.

March 16 sees 17 NPS students – Lukas McLauchlan, Ryan McCarney, Miles Leese-Caines, Harry

Irvine, Callum Huchinson, Zac Everett, Jonah Moss, Nyasia Kelly, Heidi McLauchlan, Eadie Wilson,

Fraser Gill, Courtney Kennedy, Teminya Walsh, Peter Wilson, Abby Corderoy, Lily Walker and Eliza Davison -

representing our school and district at the Western PSSA Swimming Carnival in Dubbo. We wish our swimmers all

the very best.

Parent Teacher interviews

Parent teacher interviews play a valuable role in our schools

communication strategy; they provide an opportunity for staff to build

relationships with parents and carers sharing information on the student’s

achievements, and discussions in relation to focus areas for improvement

and growth.

Our term one interviews assist staff in gaining information about personal

interests and passions in learning, and they provide a platform for the

creation of Personalised Learning Plans for the students.

Yesterday was a very successful community event with more than 70

families attending. Parents and carers are encouraged to contact the

school for interviews as required throughout the year. Our planned parent

teacher interviews are in support of our schools Assessment and

Reporting Policy. We value the opportunity to share information and

strategies with our families.

laughter and enthusiasm.

Sharon from Communities for Children/Narromine Community Skills

be engaging with our little people and their families every Thursday in

our school hall from 11am to 12 noon.

The focus is on 3-year-old children however all families regardless of

the age of the little people are very welcome to attend as the program is flexible and play based.

Stage 3 Excursion

This year our Stage 3 students are off to the Illawarra area to discover gold and culture. They will experience the

Mogo Gold Rush Colony including a tour of gold history and gold panning. They will also attend the Mogo Zoo take

part in traditional bush dance, visit the Kiama blowhole and Minamurra Rainforest. On their final day the students

will visit the Three Sisters, ride the Scenic World cable car and railway. This promises to be an excursion full or great

fun and learning. Don’t forget final payments for the excursion are required by Friday 9 March 2018.

Family Literacy Challenge

Crunch & Sip

Just a reminder that during our Crunch & Sip break students are only to eat fruit

and vegetables in their natural form (no roll ups ) and water (no juice). Giving

students a chance to re-fuel with fruit or vegetables helps to improve physical

and mental performance and increase awareness of the importance of eating

vegetables and fruit and drinking water.

SUGGESTED ITEMS

Vegetables

All fresh vegetables are permitted (e.g. celery, carrot sticks, broccoli bits)

Fruit

All fresh fruit (e.g. whole fruits, chopped melon)

Fruit canned in water, juice or with no added sugar (e.g. peach slices). Don't forget a spoon!

Dried fruit like sultanas or apricots are allowed for Crunch&Sip but should be limited. This is because dried

fruit tends to cling to teeth and is a concentrated source of sugar, increasing the risk of tooth decay.

Drinks

A clean, clear water bottle filled with plain water.

NOT PERMITTED

All other food and drinks are not permitted during the Crunch & Sip break including:

Any drinks other than plain water including fruit or vegetable juice, fruit juice drink, fruit cordial, mineral

waters, carbonated water, water with added vitamins and minerals

'Fruit' products (e.g. fruit leather, fruit roll-ups, fruit bars or similar)

Fruit jams, jellies, pies or cakes

Fruit canned in syrup or jelly or with artificial sweeteners

Dips, including those that are vegetable based

Canned or processed vegetables (e.g. olives)

Vegetable or potato crisps, hot potato chips

Vegetable pastries (pies, pasties, sausage rolls)

Vegetable cakes, fritters, quiches, breads or similar

Popcorn

DON’T FORGET!

Please slice small whole fruit and vegetables like grapes and cherry tomatoes into halves or quarters for

younger children to reduce the choking hazard.

Wash all fruit and vegetables before eating

Easy-to-eat fruit and veg is best

Buying fruit and vegetables in season is cheaper and tastes better

Students should wash their hands before eating

Wash water bottles daily

Don't share water bottles

Sport

A huge well done to all students who represented Narromine Public in the district Gobondery/NARRAF swimming

carnival in Warren on Friday 23 February. From this carnival 17 NPS students have advanced through to the Western

Carnival in Dubbo on Friday 16 March. Just a reminder to Years 3-6 that swimming will continue for the remainder of

the term. Students need to bring their swimmers, towel, sunscreen and hat. It is expected that students participate

every week as sport is a compulsory component of the curriculum. If for some reason one week they are unable to

participate please send a note to their classroom teacher explaining why they cannot participate.

Trials and training will start over the next couple of weeks for a variety of sports for Years 3-6. Students need to be

displaying positive behaviour and listening to morning messages to ensure that they arrive at these sessions if they

wish to be considered for these teams.

PBL News

At Narromine Public School, for Positive Behaviour for Learning over the next two

weeks, we will be focusing on being responsible by moving and safely and doing our

best. Our aim is to establish consistent whole-school class lining up when entering and

exiting buildings. Students will be moving to class in an orderly manner.

Also, students will be encouraged to their best. To do this, they will be ‘having a go

completing tasks’. 6Ls – Hands in laps, legs crossed, eyes looking at the teacher, lips

closed, listen to teacher and ready to learn, being organised and having equipment,

challenge themselves, making an effort, taking initiative to ask for help to respond to

things and to enquire, and show good sportsmanship on the sporting field. Thank you

for your support in encouraging your children to follow these expectations.

As part of our reward system students who achieved 100 points by Week 5 received

their reward. In Stage 3 students chose to watch a movie and have hot chips. In Stage

2, students enjoyed board games and construction blocks such as lego under the

outdoor leaning areas and Stage 1 loved their extra play time in the playground. RHR
