The sacraments of initiation are re-ceived at the Easter Vigil. In 2012, the Easter Vigil will take place on Saturday, April 7. RCIA is de-signed for the following persons:

Non-baptized persons desiring to become Cath-olic. Non-baptized persons receive all three sacraments of initiation at the Easter Vigil.

LIFT UP YOUR HEARTS… continued from page 4

So, beginning next Advent, we will no longer respond with “Christ has died, Christ is risen, Christ will come again.” Instead, there will be one of three acclamations that corre-spond with the Latin text: 1. We proclaim your Death, O Lord, /and profess your Resurrection, /until you come again. 2. When we eat this Bread and drink this Cup, /we proclaim your Death, O Lord, /until you come again. 3. Save us, Saviour of the world, /for by your Cross and Resurrection /you have set us free.

FAZtor’s Notes By Fr. Arnold Zamora Two Funerals and a Baby! That’s how I would describe the past week. It re-minds me of the 1994 movie, “Four Wed-dings and a Funeral” which was a Love story. Mine is a Life story!

The first funeral I had was that of a fifty-year old Holy Name school father and soccer coach, Dennis Gleavy, married to Carol Murphy, who is a very active parishioner and school parent. They have two beautiful children, Em-ma, who is an altar server and Sean, one of the athletic star players in his class. Dying at an early age is shocking and devastating. Indeed, fifty is a short life, but he lived it to the fullest. What matters most are not the years in our life, but life in our years. Now he enjoys the fullness of life with that promise of eternal life. The second big funeral of the week was for Jose Dominguez, a long-time Holy Name parishioner and for-mer parish bookkeeper, school father and grandfather. With his wife Isabel, they are regarded and called “Daddy” and “Mommy” by many. For one thing, they have pro-duced lives of their own, having ten children. But most es-pecially, they are the life of the lives of their children, grand-children, and to their extended family, including the priests. Two funerals for two great and wonderful fathers. Both lived a full life in this world. As those two lives continue to exist in another and better place, a new life was placed on the face of the earth with the birth of a newborn baby, Mateo, son of Alcira Ber-mudez, our Extended Care Director, and Jason Bermudez. Welcome to the world baby Mateo and congratulations to his proud parents and happy big brother Diego. In our world and in our time, “Two Funerals and a Baby” is more realistic than “Four Weddings and a Funer-al.” Most churches have more funerals than weddings, or even baptisms. In my two years at Holy Name, I have offi-ciated at two weddings, but not here at our church. One was at St. Mary’s Cathedral and the other was at St. Jo-seph’s Cathedral. One was for Mary and one was for Jo-seph. Glad to say, I will be having one for Jesus this year. Come October, I will be officiating at a wedding for the first time at our Holy Name of Jesus Church. Attending a wedding for the first time, a little girl whis-pered to her mother. “Why is the bride dressed in white?” “Because white is the color of happiness,” her mother explained, “and today is the happiest day in her life.” The child thought for a moment and then asked, “So why is the groom wearing black?”

LIFT UP YOUR HEARTS! Preparation for the revised Roman Missal, third typical edition by Jerry Back

During the Eucharistic Prayer, the priest will say or sing, "Let us proclaim the mystery of faith.” We re-spond by saying or singing one of the four English-language Memorial Acclamations, most often “Christ has died, Christ is risen, Christ will come again.” Importantly, this particular Acclamation will not be in use when the revised Roman Missal, third typical edition goes into effect this Advent be-cause it is not a direct translation of any of the Latin acclamations in the Missale Romanum.

Question: What does the Memorial Acclamation express? Answer from the Archdiocese of San Francisco: A 1972 document from the U.S. bishops once stated, “People in love make signs of love, not only to ex-press their love but also to deepen it” (Music in Catholic Worship, n. 4). A similar thing could be said for people with faith — they act and speak (make signs) of faith. This is at the heart of the Eu-charistic Prayer’s memorial acclamation. At this point in the great prayer, the priest has spoken the institution narrative (This is my body… . / This is the cup of my blood … ) He then invites the assem-bly to join him in acclaiming the “mystery of faith.” Essentially, the mystery of faith expresses what is known as the paschal mystery. It is the mys-tery of Christ’s “pasch” (Greek) or Passover — the mystery of his definitive passage to eternal life through his passion, death, resurrection, and ascen-sion. When we acclaim, “Dying you destroyed our death, …” or “When we eat this bread and drink this cup, ...” or “Lord, by your cross and resurrec-tion, you have set us free. You are the Savior of the world”, we make a sign of faith — a “Yes!” to the mystery at the center of our faith and a “Yes!” to the presence of the living Christ in the Eucharist. Christ’s mystery is now ours. His dying, rising and return in glory are what redeem our lives. ----------------------------------------------------------------------REMEMBERING the WORD of GOD “For as often as you eat this bread and drink the cup, you proclaim the death of the Lord until he comes.” 1 Corinthians 11:26 ARTICLE CONTINUED ON PAGE 3...
