This has been an active period for the Chapter, which is what we want it to be. We started off with the
Nebraska Motorcycle Safety Training (NMST) seminar session on Thursday, January 14th
. Two
GWRRA Rider Ed seminars were presented; “Motorcycling for the Mature Rider” (MMR) and “Riding
with New or Inexperienced Riders” (RNIR). Seven Chapter O members attended that session. Next
was a Dinner Ride to Famous Dave’s in Bellevue on January 16th
. That was a lot of fun with ten
Chapter O members attending.
Charlotte and I attended the IL District Winter Warm Up on January 22nd
-23rd
, where we assisted in
judging the talent show, which was fun. After looking at the pictures of the folks on the Dominican
Republic trip enjoying the beach and the warm weather makes us wish riding season is here now. It is,
if you have snow tires on your bike – maybe chains also.
February is shaping up as a busy month. Bill and Nancy have already hosted a pot-luck Super Bowl
party on February 7th
. Charlotte and I visited with Pete and Laura Winter in Minneapolis that weekend
and International Motorcycle Show (IMS) at the Minneapolis Convention Center. Charlotte and Laura
went shopping which they found to be more interesting for some reason. As a result we were returning
home on Super Bowl Sunday and were unable to attend. Congratulations to the Denver Broncos! Woo
Hoo!
We’ve attended two GWRRA Rider Ed seminars (“Dealing with Different Elements” and “Riding in the
Heat”) that I presented at NMST on February 11th
and we’ve had our monthly Get-Together on
Saturday, February 13. The next event is the District winter activity “CabinFever”, in Norfolk, NE
on the 20th
. I hope everyone is planning to attend that fun activity. For those needing Co-Rider Seminar
(CRS) and the Motorist Awareness (MA) seminar to move up in levels or remain current, this is a great
opportunity to get them. There will also be informative and interesting Leadership Training and
Membership Enhancement seminars offered also. These count toward Chapter of the Year, so please
attend if you can. Remember, if you keep thinking of riding and the snow will melt faster.
We still have a fairly open calendar in which members can sign up for Dinner Rides, Rides, Events and
more. The only thing holding us back is our imagination.

Our next Get-Together will occur on March 12th
. We’ve been asked to be out of the room before 10:00

there and eat a little early that would help. We are also looking at moving the get-together to the
Lincoln area every once in a while so please stand by on that. Thanks!

We are two months into the new year and participation at meeting and social functions is
going well. What more can we do to increase the "FUN"?
We are looking for new ideas for rides - both day rides and overnight rides. I'm pretty
sure some of you know of great areas where we can go. It might be that ride or event you
have always wanted to go to and are thinking others might also enjoy. We are not limited
to the number of rides or events each month. Not everyone can do everything but the
more opportunities we have the more FUN we can have.
How about sharing those ideas? You don't need to do all the planning [if you don't want]
to make it happen. There are others available to help you with YOUR ride/event, but first
we need to have those new and great ideas. It might be a flea market, a ball game, park,
picnic or cultural event - the sky is the limit! We need your input as this is YOUR
chapter.
Please share some ideas with me, Bob or John and we will do our best to make sure your
idea happens the way you want it. Remember: The more ideas - the more FUN!

Bill and I believe this program is helpful for ALL members.
It helps everyone get more out of their experience in GWRRA.
Please think about taking this class.
I know many of you have taken it in the past but there is a new, updated OCP that has
some of the latest information.
GWRRA is making some changes and this is a good way to learn about some of them.
The Officer Certification Program [OCP] is 1 -day program for all members explaining
what GWRRA is about and how it is structured.
OCP is an in-depth look at the function of GWRRA. It also explains the officer positions
at all levels and what is required of those positions. Additionally, it will discuss
appointment of officers, memorandum of agreement, how a GWRRA chapter is different
than a club and much more.
It is suggested that officers take OCP within their first six months of office. It is not
mandatory but it really does explain and help a lot.
Nancy and I are OCP certified trainers and have presented
many of these. Let us know if you are interested. I know we are looking at giving an
OCP in the fall here in the Omaha area that you could take.
OCP is also available online by contacting us for the logons and procedures. The
classroom interaction seems more beneficial and questions can be
answered right away.

Noun: any growth, habit, influence, or agency tending to injure, deteriorate, or impair the
mind, character, abilities, usefulness, etc.
Verb: to deteriorate or become impaired, as through inaction or disuse
This doesn’t sound good, either way. We say we’re rusty when our reactions, response
times and/or ability to perform a designated task are not up to par. Can you think of
anything this may pertain to in the world of motorcycling? How about when a long
absence is incurred; like winter! When we haven’t performed a task for some time, the
first time or first few times we do it can yield performance not up to the standard we are
accustomed to. When we haven’t thrown a leg over the saddle all winter and finally get
to ride we are RUSTY. Can this be fixed? Absolutely, and we have the tool to do it. It
is called “Parking Lot Practice”. This is a low key practice session designed to help
restore our skills from that of “Rusty” to how riding tasks were performed before the
winter hiatus. This is a good thing and we are going to do this at the end of March or
beginning of April depending upon the weather, of course.
Tattoo – What is de Plan?
The plan is to hold a day of Parking Lot Practice (PLP) Sessions, for both two wheelers
and three wheelers and also four wheelers! What’s that you say; FOUR WHEELERS?
The PLP is the only riding practice activity where motorcycles with add on kits may
participate. So if your iron steed is equipped with a Voyager or Tow-Pac add-on kit you
are welcomed and encouraged to participate. The four wheelers and three wheelers will
participate during the same session and the two wheelers will be separate.

in Papillion.
We plan to have a Chili lunch between sessions. We will provide the chili, bread, chips,
coffee and water and are asking for a $5.00 donation to cover costs. Any money left over
will be donated to the chapter. If you’d like to bring cookies or another desserty dish to
share that would be great.
Now what we need to know is will you be there? Please respond by the March Get-
Together so we can start rolling the ball.

“Ghost Rider” – The Pattern Is Full!
Who remembers the term “Ghost Rider” and what kind of vehicle it referred to?
Everyone does I’m sure as we also immediately start humming the tune “Danger Zone”.
Tom Cruise did ride a motorcycle in that movie, as he has in many of his movies, and
true to form, there were some pieces of protective gear missing from his ensemble. As
safety conscious riders we wouldn’t forget items like a helmet or gloves but it works for
the big screen. One of the things we do want to do is to be ready. Maverick was ready
for his encounter with the pseudo-MIGs (they were actually our aircraft painted to look
like MIGs) by receiving training at the premier Fighter school – TOP GUN. Well maybe
there isn’t a possibility of being shot down on our Wings and chasing someone else to do
so would be considered road rage, but we can still prepare ourselves for the riding season
by brushing up on technique.
We are planning to do just that and I hope everyone will take advantage of the “Parking
Lot Practices” we have planned for April 2nd
and if needed April 3rd
. We will do this at
the NMST range in front of the Sarpy County Law Enforcement Center (County Jail).
We will hold one session in the morning and one in the afternoon. One will be for two-
wheelers and the other for three-wheelers. Please plan on coming out to get the rust off
during this event. Sign-ups will occur during the March Get-Together or you can e-mail
me at any time. Safety is important! It saves lives and helps us keep riding!

Here are two great opportunities to help your fellow Chapter Members; Rider Educator
and Parking Lot Practice Facilitator.
Rider Educator: The Chapter needs to fill the Rider Educator vacancy. Ghost Rider is
busy doing other things and can’t devote support to this important task. Being Rider
Educator is extremely important and essential to the Chapter. It is also immensely
satisfying. You don’t have to be a Seminar Presenter or a Rider Course Instructor
although that helps. What the job requires is that you give a brief talk to the Chapter at
each Get-Together and coordinate Rider Ed activities such as seminars, riding courses
and such through the District Educator, Mark Burwell. A simple monthly report is
submitted to the District Educator and the Chapter of the Year Coordinator. Please give
filling this important position serious consideration. Thanks.
Parking Lot Practice (PLP) Facilitator: To begin, this is not a Rider Course Instructor.
The PLP Facilitator organizes and conducts one or more PLPs during the riding season.
No coaching or instruction is involved just reading the requirements for each exercise and
monitoring the range (riding area) for safety. The training consists of a three hour session
conducted by the District Educator and a PLP. This is fun and doesn’t take much time.
Please consider this position for your Chapter mates. Thanks.
Nebraska Motorcycle Safety Training (NMST)
Presents
“Motorcycling Is Fun” FREE Seminar Series for 2016–
Learn more about the details of riding and how to extend your
riding abilities through these seminars. NMST continues our free and informative motorcycling safety community outreach program for 2016. These seminars provide information on riding a motorcycle for both the rider and the co-rider. During this seminar series we will cover numerous topics concerning riding techniques and risk management . Some months will include two seminars (S1 and S2). The seminars are free and all are welcome to attend. Riders and non-riders can to benefit from this information. Come out and learn a little more about riding or just enjoy the camaraderie and discussion of other riders and co-riders. The seminars will be held monthly at the Sarpy County Law Enforcement Center Motorcycle Safety Classroom (1
st floor, southwest corner) on the second Thursday of the month (except as noted).
Seminars begin at 7:00 PM and end not later than 9:00 PM. Since our classroom space is limited, please contact our registrar, Pam (402-593-1564), and let her know if you will be attending. Seats will be allocated on a first come first served basis.

Punxsutawney Phil, the Seer of Seers, Prognosticator of All Prognosticators, was
awakened from his borrow to the cheers of his thousands of faithful followers….
In Groundhogese, he directed the President and the Inner Circle to the precise prediction
Scroll, which translated reads:
The inner circle goes to great ends
To keep me abreast of latest trends
Down in my burrow I never get bored

And I sure have fun flying my drone
But weather forecasting is my comfort zone
Is this current warm weather more than a trend?
Per chance this winter has come to an end?

Phil has stuck a fork in winter so it is now OK to go out to the garage and break out the oil changing tools. You may want to wait on the hose, soap and bucket a little while longer or at least until the snow melts. Should be any day now!

GOOD NEWS! For those going to Glacier N.P. this fall, very little road construction.
The following is from the parks. I emailed them and this is their response.
Hi Doug,
While road construction is continuing in summer of 2016, it is focused around the St.
Mary Visitor Center and there will not be any gravel sections along the length of the
road. Comparatively speaking, the work this year is minimal, and all the alpine sections
have been completed.

Aug 25 ~ District Rally, Wall SD.

Wall, SD - Main Attraction – Wall Drug
Wall Drug is what makes Wall, SD a “MUST” travel stop on I-90 as you travel through South Dakota.
Not only is it situated such that you will need a break, but there is much to do once you get there. Wall,
SD is also the destination for all NE-SD District members and also members from every district over the
last week in August. This is when and where the NE-SD District Rally will be held. Not only will the
rally be fun because there is lots to do, Wall Drug, Badlands National Monument, and more, but we can
renew annual acquaintances and have fun making new friends. This year will be a banner year. If that
wasn’t enough, after the NE-SD District Rally ends Wing Ding 38 begins a couple of days later. Wow,
two whole weeks and it is in our back yard! Please plan on attending the NE-SD District Rally and also
WD 38 this year. It is guaranteed to be talked about for long afterwards.
