Well, we’re in the depths of winter (wah, wah). New Year’s has passed and for those of us still grinding away at work there are no holidays until Memorial Day (unless you get MLK, President’s Day, and Good Friday off). BUT WAIT!!!! That doesn’t mean our D2 family can’t have some fun!!!!!! As I mentioned at the January gathering, your D2 team has decided to shake things up a little this year and maybe once a quarter move our monthly gathering to some exotic location (exotic being someplace other than Pizza Hut). We’re going to start the shakeup in February by holding our gathering at Liberty Diner. I’ve already sent out an email and when I do the One Call I’ll try to make sure to grab your attention. I was thinking of having someone stand by at Pizza Hut to keep track of those of us who go to the wrong place! There could be an award involved! Speaking of shaking things up, at the January gathering, we passed around a signup sheet for folks to sign up to take charge of a Chapter dinner ride. This can be anything you want it to be. We can meet someplace and ride to the restaurant of your choosing, we can meet at your chosen eating establishment and ride afterwards, or we can just meet to eat (the rest of us have the eating part down pat!. YOU have the power and get to do whatever YOU want to do for that week’s outing. Please look at your calendars and think about participating and signing up at the February gathering. You can sign up for as many days as you want! When Dave/Howard get this newsletter out (THANKS guys!), there is still time to register for Winter Rendezvous! I know a lot of the Chapter has not gone to many District rally’s but Debbie and I would like to encourage you to expand your Gold Wing family and give a rally a chance. There is something to do for everyone. Two of our Chapter members are presenting craft Seminars (thanks Cheryl Williams and Janice Routt!) and two of us are presenting Rider Ed seminars (Mike Nelson and myself). There are a lot of fun activities planned and if nothing trips your fancy, you have the fun town of Shipshewana to explore. You’ll also get to meet and interact with other GWRRA folks and expand you friend-base dramatically. Until next time……. Rick & Debbie

HI D-2 Members!! We are having s little trouble here in Indiana with being able to ride our bikes!! All due to the 13 BELOW weather one day, to 50 DEGREES the next, the temperature fluctuates about like my checkbook!!! So with this being said, I don’t have any ride updates for the month, except for a date we have set for the RIDE PLANNING MEETING!!!! YIPPEE!!!! This is scheduled for Saturday, March 17th at 5:00pm. The place of the meeting will be at the New Haven Park Department/Community Center. The address is 7500 930 EAST- right behind McDonalds!!! Stick around and play some games afterwards as well!!! WE still have almost 2 months before this meeting, so it’s time to come up with some Great Ride Ideas and Trips!!! Hope to see you all there!!!

There’s not much to maintain on a day-to-day basis on most modern motorcycles, but do what you can, including your pre-ride checks. Your bike has a regular service schedule, listed in the owner’s manual. Unless you are an accomplished mechanic, we recommend that these services be done by an authorized dealer. Keeping your bike clean is a good idea. It’s astounding how dirt can cover up something that is about to go wrong. Check your battery every month. Make sure the fluid level is where it should be. If it is low, top it up with distilled water. Always take your tool kit along when you go for a ride. You never can tell when it will come in handy. Use the tools to go over the bike occasionally and make sure no screws or bolts are loose.

Typical Valentine’s Day Greetings In addition to the United States, Valentine’s Day is celebrated in Canada, Mexico, the United Kingdom, France and Australia. In Great Britain, Valentine’s Day began to be popularly celebrated around the 17th century. By the middle of the 18th, it was common for friends and lovers of all social classes to exchange small tokens of affection or handwritten notes, and by 1900 printed cards began to replace written letters due to improvements in printing technology. Ready-made cards were an easy way for people to express their emotions in a time when direct expression of one’s feelings was discouraged. Cheaper postage rates also contributed to an increase in the popularity of sending Valentine’s Day greetings. Americans probably began exchanging hand-made valentines in the early 1700s. In the 1840s, Esther A. Howland began selling the first mass-produced valentines in America. Howland, known as the “Mother of the Valentine,” made elaborate creations with real lace, ribbons and colorful pictures known as “scrap.” Today, according to the Greeting Card Association, an estimated 1 billion Valentine’s Day cards are sent each year, making Valentine’s Day the second largest card-sending holiday of the year. (An estimated 2.6 billion cards are sent for Christmas.) Women purchase approximately 85 percent of all valentines.

Ingredients 1 box Betty Crocker™ SuperMoist™ white cake mix Water, vegetable oil and egg whites called for on cake mix box 1 container Betty Crocker™ Whipped fluffy white frosting Red food color Steps 1 Heat oven to 350°F (325°F for dark or nonstick pans). Grease or lightly spray bottoms only of one 8-inch round and one 8-inch square pan. 2 In large bowl, beat cake mix, water, oil and egg whites with electric mixer on low speed 30 seconds, then on medium speed 2 minutes, scraping bowl occasionally. Pour batter into pans. 3 Bake square pan 25 to 29 minutes, round pan 29 to 34 minutes or until toothpick inserted in center comes out clean. Cool 10 minutes; remove from pans. Cool completely, about 1 hour. 4 Cut round cake in half. Put square cake on tray with one point toward you. Place cut side of each half against one of the top sides of square cake to make a heart as shown in diagram. 5 Tint frosting with a few drops food color. Frost cake with frosting. Store loosely covered.
This pretty heart-shaped cake is the perfect way to say "I love you!"
