Parent/Child AquaticsLevel 1: Shrimp Parent/Child Age: 6-8 months. Program instruction in this class is directed toward helping parents to work with their child to feel more comfortable in the water and to develop basic water safety and swim skills. Each child should always be accompanied by one parent. Classes may be combined on enrollment.

Level 3: Inia Parent/ Child Age: 13-18 months. Program instruction in this class is directed toward helping parents to work with their child to feel more comfortable in the water and to develop basic water safety and swim skills. Each child should always be accompanied by one parent. Classes may be combined on enrollment.

Level 4 Perch Parent/ Child This YMCA program provides the highest quality of early water experiences for children age 19-36 months. Four levels of progression will see your child through water adjustment and onto basic skills. Program instruction is directed toward helping you work with your child. Each child is always accompanied by one parent. Classes maybe combined based on enrollment.

Level 1 Pike With Parent Is your child just not ready to be alone for swim lessons? This is a transitional class in which we will wean your child away from mom and dad. Water Fitness Pre/Post Natal Energize your pregnancy! This shallow water class focuses on pregnancy fitness with special focus on improved circulation and flexibility. A combination of low-impact aerobics, toning exercises, and stretching for all stages of pregnancy. No swimming experience is needed. Exercising in water is ideal for pregnant women because it reduces the risk of stress-related injuries, and the compression of the water is soothing on joints and muscles that are stressed by the added bulk of your pregnancy.

Our pool shutdown @ Foglia YMCA runs August 23rd - September 1st. Aquatics Center with both pools reopens September 2nd.

Sunday and Monday classes have only 7 classes during the Fall 1 session. Tuesday thru Saturday have 8 classes during the Fall 1 session.

Preschool AquaticsLevel 1 Pike With Parent Is your child just not ready to be alone for swim lessons? This is a transitional class in which we will wean your child away from mom and dad. The next level from here would be Pike. Your child must be 3-5 years old during the session. Family membership is required to receive member rate.

Level 1 Pike The first level of lessons is for beginning swimmers. Swimmers should be able to listen to instructions and follow directions. Swimmers will learn the basic paddle stroke on the front, back and sides. They will also be taught kicking skills and putting their face in the water.

Level 2 Eel Swimmers will learn to jump in without assistance, float on their front and back for 20 seconds with or without an IFD. Swimmers will also learn to paddle on front, back and side for 25 yards with an IFD and 15 feet without.

Level 3 Ray In this class swimmers will learn to front and back float 30 seconds without an IFD; front alternating paddle with rhythmic breathing 25 yards with an IFD, and 20 feet without. Swimmers will also learn front symmetrical paddle with rhythmic breathing 25 yards with an IFD, and 20 feet without; do a side alternating paddle for 25 yards with an IFD and 20 feet without; back alternating paddle for 25 yards with an IFD and 20 feet without; and back symmetrical paddle for 25 yards with an IFD and 20 feet without.

Level 4 Starfish In this class swimmers will learn to do a standing dive; basic front crawl rotary breathing 25 yards; basic breaststroke 25 yards; backstroke 25 yards; elementary backstroke 25 yards; basic sidestroke 25 yards; and tread water 1 minute.

Youth AquaticsLevel 1 Polliwog - This is the beginning level for school age children and is appropriate for anyone new to the water or with little formal instruction. Children will learn the basic paddle stroke on their front, back and sides, kicking skills and will become comfortable putting their face in the water.

Level 2 Guppy - In this class swimmers will learn to front and back float 1-minute; front alternating paddle 25 yards with rhythmic breathing with and without an IFD; front symmetrical paddle 25 yards; back symmetrical paddle 25 yards; back alternating paddle 25 yards; side alternating paddle 25 yards; and kneeling dive.

Prerequisites: To enter this level, children should be able to front and back float for 30 seconds with or without an IFD; paddle 25 yards on their front, back and side with an IFD, and 15 feet without an IFD; jump in without assistance; be comfortable in deep water.

Level 3 Minnow - In this class swimmers will learn to do a standing dive; basic front crawl rotary breathing 25 yards; basic breaststroke 25 yards; backstroke 25 yards; elementary backstroke 25 yards; basic sidestroke 25 yards; and tread water 1 minute.

Prerequisites: To enter this level, children should be able to front and back float 1-minute; front alternating paddle 25 yards with rhythmic breathing with and without an IFD; front symmetrical paddle 25 yards; back symmetrical paddle 25 yards; back alternating paddle 25 yards; side alternating paddle 25 yards; and kneeling dive.

Prerequisites: To enter this level, children should be able to tread water for 3-minutes; swim 50 yards front crawl; swim 50 yards breaststroke with legal kick and arm pulls; swim 50 yards backstroke; swim 50 yards elementary backstroke with a glide; swim 50 yards sidestroke with a scissors kick; and swim 15 yards butterfly.

Level 6 Shark - In this class swimmers will learn to take their own heart rate; learn about open water and backyard pool safety; swim 100 yards from crawl with flip turns; swim 100 yards breaststroke with pull-out; swim 50 yards inverted breaststroke; swim 100 yards backstroke with dolphin kick and pullout; swim 50 yards over arm side stroke; swim 25 yards butterfly with streamline; and swim 200 yards individual medley.

Prerequisite: To enter this level, children should be able to do a flip turn; swim 100 yards front crawl with bilateral breathing; swim 100 yards breaststroke; swim 100 yards backstroke; swim 100 yards elementary backstroke; swim 100 yards sidestroke alternating sides; swim 100 yards lifesaving sidestroke; and swim 15 yards butterfly.

Level 7 Jr. Aquaducks This level differs from other levels in that the format allows older children and teens the opportunity to develop a program that fits their interests after they complete the Shark Level. Participants will expand upon the five main points of YMCA swim lessons and continue to refine starts, turns, and all 4 competitive swimming strokes while they learn leadership skills and the value of community service.

The Fall/Winter season runs Sept. 9-March 22, 2014. We have experienced and caring coaches with a wealth of swimming backgrounds. The team competes against other YMCAs in the Chicagoland area along with season-ending District and State Championship Meets. Parental assistance is required for both home and away meets. Practice times are based on the swimmer’s commitment level, and all participants must be a Foglia member. Registration for returning/current swim team members for the Fall/Winter 2014-2015 Season will be August 18 & 19 at the Y. Registration must be done in person. Try outs for prospective swim team members will be held August 20 & 21 from 6:30-7:30pm. Registration for try outs is done online and there is no charge for tryouts. Prerequisites: Ages 8 and Under: Must be able to swim 25 yards Freestyle, 25 yards Backstroke, 25 yards Breaststroke, a basic Butterfly. AquaticsPrivate & Semi Private Lessons Private and semi-private lessons are accommodating to the busy schedules of parents and children alike. Both private and semi-private lessons can be purchased in packages of 3, 5 and 7, 30-minute lessons. Private Lessons will not be scheduled during group swim lesson times. You can now register for 1, 2 or 3 lessons per week. We work with all abilities, concentrating on swimming basics for beginners or stroke development for more advanced swimmers. An information form must be completed at the Member Relations Desk in order to be put on the list for an instructor. Lessons are based on a first-come, first-serve basis and on instructor availability. The Aquatics Department will contact those interested when an instructor becomes available.

COMING THIS FALL:

Red Cross Lifeguard Training Age: 15 years and up Learn the skills and knowledge required to become a lifeguard, including how to recognize, prevent and respond quickly to aquatic emergencies. Learn CPR for the professional rescuer, AED and First Aid. Participants will receive certifications after attending all class sessions, passing all written exams, water skills and tests. Certifications are good for 2 years. Class fee includes Red Cross Lifeguarding participant manual and CPR pocket mask.

Prerequisite skills for Red Cross Lifeguarding Training AND for Red Cross Lifeguarding Review/Recertification Course:• Swim 300 yards continously demonstrating breath control and rhythmic

breathing. Candidates may swim using the front craw, breaststroke or a combination of both but swimming on the back or side is not allowed. Swim goggles may be used.

• Thread water for 2 minutes using on the legs. Candidates should place their hands under the armpits.

• Complete a timed event within 1 minute, 40 seconds.• Staring in the water, swim 20 yards. The face may be in or out of the

water. Swim goggles are not allowed.• Surface dive, feet-first or head-first, to a depth of 7 to 10 feed to retrieve

a 10-poung object.• Return to the surface and swim 20 yards on the back to return to the

starting point with both hands holding the object and keeping the face at or near the surface so they are able to get a breath. Candidates should not swim the distance under water.

• Exit the water without using a ladder or steps.

Munch and Math This class teaches your child the “fun” damentals of math. Topics include comparing and writing numbers, counting and sip counting, as well as simple additional and subtraction. This is a great way to help your child lay the foundation for math success. This class is held during lunch, so please bring a sack lunch.

Fabulous Fairytales Let’s get lost in a far away land, or take a magical journey filled with adventure. These timeless stories will help children learn valuable life lessons, reinforce various skills, and also to “visit” other places and people. Come join me for a fun and imaginative class on fairy tales.

Take Me to the Moon Let’s go on an imaginary trip to outer space. Each week we will learn and discover all we can about a planet in our solar system.

A-Rhyme-A-Week This class focuses on eight of the best known and loved nursery rhymes of our time. The activities we will do provided a stimulating and effective way to help children develop critical and creative thinking skills on language arts and mathematics.

Athletes In Motion - Is your child always playing ball around the house? Let’s get him in the gym for this fun class where the kids are introduced to the simple fundamentals of a sport. Your child will learn the basic skills of an individual sport, and then play mini games based on that specific sport. Held at MSSCFun Zone - Want to get your kids out of the house and active? This class will focus on fun while also learning about the basics of several sports. Half of the class will concentrate on being fit and will consist of stretching and fitness activities. The other half of class will include activities such as soccer, basketball, kickball and more! Held at MSSCGym Playtime Fun - Is for those parents that would like their child to participate in different activities in a class setting, instead of just dropping them off in the Maze, while the parent(s) get a work out in for the day. This is a two hour class where the kids will participate in a variety of different activities such as tumbling, scooters, all sorts of sports, etc. Held at MSSCIntramurals - Your child must be enrolled in the after care program to be eligible for extended care until 6:30 PM! School Age Child CareKindergarten Enrichment We offer AM and PM Kindergarten enrichment programs. Our programs are DCFS licensed. Kindergarten Enrichment provides a broad range of curriculum and activities based on the YMCA’s principles of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility while encouraging children to achieve a healthy spirit, mind and body. Our AM Enrichment Program runs 8-11:30AM and our PM Enrichment Program runs from 11:30am-3pm; those continuing their day with the After School Program will be transported back to their respective schools.

School Age Child Care The Foglia YMCA is proud to be working with School District 95 and St. Francis de Sales School to provide quality child care for children in elementary school, grades K-6. We are a DCFS licensed program. The program operates Mon-Fri from 6:45-8:15am and 2:50-6:30pm for District 95 schools and Mon-Fri 2:15-6:30pm for St. Francis de Sales School.

Ela Township Middle School Club Looking for something to do after school? Try the Ela Township Middle School Club at the Foglia YMCA. The Club is available to all District 95 Middle School children and is now housed in our Teen Room. The new room includes a study room with tables and iMac computers for homework as well as a lounge area with a couch, lounge chairs, a big screen TV with Nintendo Wii and Xbox for entertainment. Along with the Teen Room the Y also offers foosball, ping pong, air hockey, pool and a rock wall. A snack will be provided every day when the teens arrive after school, and pizza will be served on Fridays. The Club is offered 2:30-7:30pm every day school is in session and 12:30-7:30pm on early release days. The program only costs $5 for the entire school year! Youth Sports LeaguesTravel Basketball League Our Foglia Fire travel basketball teams are ready to take down the rest of the YMCA’s in our annual winter association wide travel basketball league! We have separate a 5&6 and a 7&8 grade team, and each team will have two practices a week, along with a game or two throughout the week, mainly on the weekends. The league normally runs November-March, with tryouts occurring first week of November, and the end of season tournament taking place before Spring Break! Youth Sports & Teen Fitness Foglia YMCA

Fun and Exciting Programs Offered this Fall:Family Fun Nights Family Nights at the Foglia YMCA allow families a time and a place to come together to have a good time; participate in a variety of fun activities; share, communicate and strengthen their relationships; and meet other families. They are scheduled for the 1st Friday of every month from 6:30-8:30 p.m. and can be either structured or free-flowing. Activities include open pool time, arts and crafts, family fitness, games, and so much more. Free to members and the community.

Parents’ Night Out (Ages 6wks -8) Hey Kids! Are you looking to get out and have some fun? On the second Friday of each month, come and play in ‘Mazing Kids Center while your parents enjoy a night out. Each month will be a different theme with arts and crafts, games, stories and much more. Sign up for one session or all! Children will be served dinner (pizza/juice boxes or similar). Space is limited to 30 participants so please register early. Potty trained children are preferred.

Dates: September 12, October 10, November 14 & December 12. Activities will be posted closer to the date.

Times: 6-9 p.m. Fees: $15M/$20NM (per child)

Teen Fitness ProgramsTeen's age 12 through 15 are REQUIRED to complete the Teen Fitness program. The program will consists of learning how to properly use the cardiovascular and selectorized weight equipment. The program consists of four separate appointments based on the goals and time frame of the individual. Upon completion of the program all teens must pass a written exam. Teens must wear proper identification at all times while going through the program and after completion. If identification is lost, contact the wellness center for a replacement.

Teen Free Weight Option After completion of the Teen Fitness Program and proof of passing the exam, all teens ages 14 or 15 are permitted to use the Free Weight based on the following conditions: (NO EXCEPTIONS)• Written Informed Consent • Medical Clearance Form• Proof of Age • Proper ID (wrist band)• Abide by the code of conduct• MANDATORY supervision by a parent or guardian at ALL times.

New Private Basketball Training The Foglia YMCA is proud to announce a new offering to build on those basketball skills throughout the year, a private basketball skills training! Whether you are in the middle of the season and just want to get more practice in, or it’s the offseason and need to keep those skills sharp for the next season, the Foglia YMCA basketball staff is happy to keep those previous skills sharp, as well as learn some new individual skills to help you for the next year. This program is open to 3rd-8th graders, and will run any day of the week that works with both yours and the trainers’ schedules. We are offering 30 or 60 minute packages which are listed below. We have a few different staff within the youth sports department that have played or currently play high school basketball, including a couple staff that have coached numerous teams over the course of the last few years.

Flag Football -This coed league is for those football players that can’t get enough football, and aren’t ready for the tackle football program. We will break up into different age groups depending on numbers, and each team will have a weeknight practice for an hour, including a game on Saturday mornings/afternoons for an hour long. They will learn all the basic fundamentals of the game of football, in a fun game setting. Held at Foglia Y Fields

Fall Soccer -This coed league is for those soccer advocates that can’t get off the field. We will break up into different age groups of 3-4, 5-6, 7-9, & 10-12 (pending registrations) and each team will have a weeknight practice (except for the rookies league) for an hour, including a game on Saturday mornings/afternoons for an hour long. Small Group Personal TrainingCross Training Utilizing functional training to make a more functional you! The human body is designed to run, jump, lift, roll, twist...basic skills that traditional methods don’t address. When you train your body to meet the demands of an active healthy lifestyle you will see marked improvement in: body awareness, endurance (physical and mental), strength, power, agility, and flexibility...all the good things that make life a little more enjoyable! All skills can be scaled to meet your individual fitness level.

Les Mills Grit Strength™: Using barbell, weight plate and body weight exercises, LES MILLS GRIT™ Strength is an intense 30-minute team training workout that will blast all major muscle groups and take your strength into another zone.

Les Mills Grit Plyo™ Plyo is a plyometric-based workout that delivers fast results! Combining the principles of explosive plyometrics and power agility training, you’ll build a powerful,agile and athletic body.

Les Mills Grit Cardio™ Cardio is a high-impact cardio workout like nothing else. Designed to burn fat and rapidly improve athletic capability, this explosive, 30-minute workout combines high impact body weight exercises and uses no equipment.

Kettlebell This class will teach you the foundation kettlebell lifts. Proficiency in these lifts will ensure your success in losing body fat, increasing your strength, correcting strength imbalances and overall general fitness.

Lose Weight & Keep It Off This training program can provide you the personalized attention of a trainer at a lower cost in a supportive group environment. All of the exercises in the program can be scaled in difficulty to fit your individual needs. The program will help you get in shape in a fun and challenging atmosphere. Each participant will receive a fitness assessment at the beginning & end of the program, nutritional guidance and group workouts twice a week.

TRX Body Blast This class takes your workout to a whole new level utilizing the TRX suspension trainer along with additional tools (will vary week to week) to build total body strength and cardiovascular endurance while increasing flexibility and challenging your core all at the same time.

TRX Bootcamp This class takes your workout to a whole new level utilizing the TRX suspension trainer along with additional tools (will vary week to week) to build total body strength and cardiovascular endurance while increasing flexibility and challenging your core all at the same time.

Group Personal Training Join a group of no more than fifteen for scheduled thirty minute group personal training session. Sessions will provide you with the expertise of a personal trainer at an affordable price.

Adult Fitness TestingBody Composition Body composition is the amount of fat vs. lean muscle tissue in the human body. These are commonly expressed as a percentage of a person’s total weight. Body weight alone is not a clear indicator of good health, because it does not distinguish how many pounds are from fat and how many are from lean body mass. Contact the Wellness Center to set up an appointment for a body composition test using the skin-fold measurement method performed by a certified personal trainer.

Fitness Assessments Each assessment includes a health screening that consists of blood pressure and resting heart rate measurements. This screening is followed by testing for body composition or measurement, cardio respiratory endurance, flexibility, and muscular strength and endurance. A computer report assessing your current fitness level and an individualized exercise prescription are provided. Please allow one hour for your evaluation. Stop by the Wellness Center to schedule your appointment.

Metabolic Testing Testing a person’s metabolic rate reveals how many calories your body burns at rest, giving you the information you need to plan a weight loss, weight gain or maintenance plan. Each person’s metabolism is different based on genetics, eating habits and fitness level. Metabolic testing gives you specific data that will help you achieve your personal weight control goals. Register at the Wellness Center.

Adult Specialty Group ExerciseBarre Burn This 45-minute class is a total body workout that slims your hips, tightens your thighs, lifts your seats and mobilizes your metabolism. Utilizing ballet movements, intelligent isometrics, challenges in rhythm, range of motion and progressive core training, your body heals, tightens, strengthens, so your look, feel and move better!

Reformer I An ideal entry level workout designed for all fitness levels and abilities, this workout combines beginning Pilates reformer exercises with stretches and postural patterns.

Reformer II Delivers the Pilates experience in a fun and balanced fitness workout that is perfect for intermediate to advanced participants. An effective fusion of beginning Reformer exercises with traditional weight exercises, teaching participants to work from their core and gain new body awareness and definition.

Karate Ages 7 and up are welcomed. Class consists of stretching, punching skills, blocking, kicking, etc. Participants will learn self-defense, discipline, esteem & respect while having fun & getting a great workout.

Mommy & Me Yoga Mommy & Me will strengthen your body and the bond between you and your baby. Using interactive postures that incorporate your baby, you will strengthen your core, improve your posture, build confidence and relax using inspirational postures and breathing techniques. Ideal for babies 6 weeks to crawling.
