GROUP CHILD WITH PARENT SWIM LESSONSShrimp, Kipper, Inia, & Perch Levels This YMCA program provides the highest quality of early water experience for children ages 6-36 months. Four levels of progression will see your child through water adjustment and onto basic skills. Program instruction is directed toward helping you work with your child. Each child is always accompanied by one parent. Classes may be combined based on enrollment.

Level 1: Shrimp Level Age 6-8 months

Level 2: Kipper Level Age 9-12 months

Level 3: Inia Level Age 13-18 months

Level 4: Perch Level Age 24-36 months

Level 1: Pike With Parent (Age: 3-5) Is your child just not ready to be alone for swim lessons? This is a transitional class in which we will wean your child away from mom and dad. The next level from here would be Pike. Your child must be 3-years old during the session. Family membership is required to receive member rate.

Level 1: Pike (Age: 3-5) The first level of lessons is for beginning swimmers. Swimmers should be able to listen to instructions and follow directions. Swimmers will learn the basic paddle stroke on the front, back and sides. They will also be taught kicking skills and putting their face in the water.

Level 2: Eel (Age: 3-5) Swimmers will learn to jump in without assistance, float on their front and back for 20 seconds with or without an IFD. Swimmers will also learn to paddle on front, back and side for 25 yards with an IFD and 15 feet without. Prerequisites: To enter this level, swimmers should be able to front and back float 20 seconds with an IFD. Swimmers should also paddle on their front, back and side for 10 yards with an IFD, and 5 feet without.

Level 3: Ray (Age: 3-5) In this class swimmers will learn to front and back float 30 seconds without an IFD; front alternating paddle with rhythmic breathing 25 yards with an IFD, and 20 feet without. Swimmers will also learn front symmetrical paddle with rhythmic breathing 25 yards with an IFD, and 20 feet without; do a side alternating paddle for 25 yards with an IFD and 20 feet without; back alternating paddle for 25 yards with an IFD and 20 feet without; and back symmetrical paddle for 25 yards with an IFD and 20 feet without. Prerequisites: To enter this level, swimmers should be able to jump in without assistance, float on their front and back for 20 seconds with or without an IFD. Swimmers should also paddle on front, back and side for 25 yards with an IFD and 15 feet without.

Level 4: Starfish (Age: 3-5) In this class swimmers will learn to do a standing dive; basic front crawl rotary breathing 25 yards; basic breaststroke 25 yards; backstroke 25 yards; elementary backstroke 25 yards; basic sidestroke 25 yards; and tread water 1 minute. Prerequisites: To enter this level, swimmers should be able to front and back float 30 seconds without an IFD; front alternating paddle with rhythmic breathing 25 yards with an IFD, and 20 feet without. Swimmers also need to be able to front symmetrical paddle with rhythmic breathing 25 yards with an IFD, and 20 feet without; do a side alternating paddle for 25 yards with an IFD and 20 feet without; back alternating paddle for 25 yards with an IFD and 20 feet without; and back symmetrical paddle for 25 yards with an IFD and 20 feet without.

GROUP SCHOOL AGE SWIM LESSONS (Ages: 6-12)

Level 1: POLLIWOG This is the beginning level for school age children and is appropriate for anyone new to the water or with little formal instruction. Children will learn the basic paddle stroke on their front, back and sides, kicking skills and will become comfortable putting their face in the water.

Level 2: GUPPY In this class swimmers will learn to front and back float 1-minute; front alternating paddle 25 yards with rhythmic breathing with and without an IFD; front symmetrical paddle 25 yards; back symmetrical paddle 25 yards; back alternating paddle 25 yards; side alternating paddle 25 yards; and kneeling dive. Prerequisites: To enter this level, children should be able to front and back float for 30 seconds with or without an IFD; paddle 25 yards on their front, back and side with an IFD, and 15 feet without an IFD; jump in without assistance; be comfortable in deep water.

Level 3: MINNOW In this class swimmers will learn to do a standing dive; basic front crawl rotary breathing 25 yards; basic breaststroke 25 yards; backstroke 25 yards; elementary backstroke 25 yards; basic sidestroke 25 yards; and tread water 1 minute. Prerequisites: To enter this level, children should be able to front and back float 1-minute; front alternating paddle 25 yards with rhythmic breathing with and without an IFD; front symmetrical paddle 25 yards; back symmetrical paddle 25 yards; back alternating paddle 25 yards; side alternating paddle 25 yards; and kneeling dive.

Level 4: FISH In this class swimmers will learn to tread water for 3-minutes; swim 50 yards front crawl; swim 50 yards breaststroke with legal kick and arm pulls; swim 50 yards backstroke; swim 50 yards elementary backstroke with a glide; swim 50 yards sidestroke with a scissors kick; and swim 15 yards butterfly. Prerequisites: To enter this level, children should be able to do a standing dive; basic front crawl rotary breathing 25 yards; basic breaststroke 25 yards; backstroke 25 yards; elementary backstroke 25 yards; basic sidestroke 25 yards; and tread water 1 minute.

Level 5: FLYING FISH - In this class swimmers will learn to do a flip turn; swim 100 yards front crawl with bilateral breathing; swim 100 yards breaststroke; swim 100 yards backstroke; swim 100 yards elementary backstroke; swim 100 yards sidestroke alternating sides; swim 100 yards lifesaving sidestroke; and swim 15 yards butterfly. Prerequisites: To enter this level, children should be able to tread water for 3-minutes; swim 50 yards front crawl; swim 50 yards breaststroke with legal kick and arm pulls; swim 50 yards backstroke; swim 50 yards elementary backstroke with a glide; swim 50 yards sidestroke with a scissors kick; and swim 15 yards butterfly.

Level 6: SHARK In this class swimmers will learn to take their own heart rate; learn about open water and backyard pool safety; swim 100 yards from crawl with flip turns; swim 100 yards breaststroke with pull-out; swim 50 yards inverted breaststroke; swim 100 yards backstroke with dolphin kick and pullout; swim 50 yards over arm side stroke; swim 25 yards butterfly with streamline; and swim 200 yards individual medley. Prerequisite: To enter this level, children should be able to do a flip turn; swim 100 yards front crawl with bilateral breathing; swim 100 yards breaststroke; swim 100 yards backstroke; swim 100 yards elementary backstroke; swim 100 yards sidestroke alternating sides; swim 100 yards lifesaving sidestroke; and swim 15 yards butterfly.

Junior Dolphins This class helps develop stroke technique. It is for the advanced swimmer who would like to continue with a swim program and are not currently interested in swim team, are contemplating joining a team, or are currently on a swim team and would like to swim between seasons to stay conditioned. Must be able to swim all swim strokes for a minimum of 200 yards, do flip turns, and tread water. Also includes water sports and games and a safety component.

During the seventh week of the session we will host a mini meet between the 3 class offerings followed by a celebration party. The mini meet and celebration party is optional . Registration will be required. See Marie Straube, Aquatic Director for details.

Goldfish This program is for participants who need more individualized attention and practice time and has 3-to-1 ratio class. The class uses equipment appropriate for students needing extra support and assistance. Class instructors are trained Adaptive Aquatics instructors with experience working with and teaching mainstream, semi-private, and private classes for individuals with special needs.

American Red Cross Junior Lifeguard (Age: 11-15 years) This program is designed for the advanced swimmer. This class will also provide a foundation of aquatics knowledge and skills for future successful completion of the Red Cross Lifeguard Class. Prerequisites: Must be able to swim the front crawl, breast stroke, and backstroke for 25 yards; tread water for 1 minute; submerge and swim 10 feet under water.

Private and Semi Private Lessons 6 Lesson Pkg. Private and Semi Private lessons start at age 3 and up. This package includes 6 lessons that are Thirty-minutes in length. Stop by the front desk for a private lesson request form.

Level 1: Young Adult Beginner Swim Lessons (Age 13-17) This program follows the YMCA of the USA’s guidelines to swim lessons. There is a focus on five main points: personal growth, personal safety, stroke development, water sports & games, and rescue.

This is the beginning level for young adults and is appropriate for anyone new to the water or with little formal instruction. In this class you will learn to front and back float and treading water for 1-minute; front alternating paddle 25 yards with rhythmic breathing with and without an IFD; front symmetrical paddle 25 yards; back symmetrical paddle 25 yards; back alternating paddle 25 yards; side alternating paddle 25 yards; and kneeling dive/standing dive.

PRESCHOOL ENRICHMENT CLASSESFit And Fun Bring your child to the YMCA for a fun time of gym, fitness, swim lessons, art and to meet new children their age to enrich their lives.

Leaping Learners This is designed to get your child ready for preschool and have a separation from parent and child. We offer play-based stations to teach social skills, counting, colors, shapes and the alphabet, small motor skills, art stations, circle time, stories, large motor skills and songs. Must be in pull-ups and parent(s) must be accessible for changing.

Toddler Time! Toddlers and their parent's will enjoy and this weekly program where they experience songs, stories, movements, music and social development amongst other toddlers and their parents.

Weekend Preschool Parents and children can participate together during stations with art, manipulatives, puzzles, books and more while they get to socialize with other parents and children at the same time.

Zumbini™ This program is a child-focused journey into the world of music, movement and dance! Zumbini™ is a music and movement class that children attend with their parent or caregiver(s). Class is fun, energetic, and full of contemporary music with world beats. Children wiggle, dance, sign, and move using their bodies, rhythmic instruments, and scarves, to encourage, develop and enhance their natural rhythm and musicality.

PRESCHOOL ENRICHMENT

Preschool & Youth Elmhurst YMCA

Les Mills BORN TO MOVE™ plugs young people into their innate need to move. It builds confidence and develops skills, using stories, games, team building, performance, problem solving and the magic of music.

Age 4-5: An imaginative, explorative world of music and movement. This 45 minute class is tailored for age groups: 4-5 year olds. Children at this stage respond best to stories, so special music is written for the class with lyrics that act as sung instructions and children are led through simple moves that build body awareness and balance.

Age 8-12: In this 45 minute class, the teacher leads the class in a series of foundation fitness moves taken from dance, martial arts, plyometrics, sports training and yoga. It includes great music and games to keep things interesting while developing fitness skills.

Fall Hockey Leagues Elmhurst Youth Hockey League is a no check league and is designed to teach the great game of hockey to boys and girls ages 6-15 years old. The emphasis is on improving the players skills and having fun! All Fall Hockey League games are played at the Carol Stream Ice Rink. Practices during the week and games on Saturdays or Sundays.

Floor Hockey Learn the basics of floor hockey and play games.

Sport Speed And Agility Class Sport specific class will focus on speed, agility and overall strength and conditioning.

Fall Volleyball League 3rd-8th Grade

Modern Arnis This is a fun martial arts class, blending Filipino stick, karate and jujitsu. Perfect for all ages.

New This Fall Shokotan Karate! - Fitness, Discipline, Strength, and Agility for the whole family

Travel Basketball 7th-8th Grade Looking to see what the competition is outside of Elmhurst? Sign up for tryouts for the Elmhurst YMCA Travel Basketball Team. Tryouts will be in October and season will run November thru March. Teams will travel to other Chicago area YMCA'S and finish season with tournament.

Winter Hockey Registration Begins October 3

GRIT Les Mills GRIT Series includes three 30 minute high intensity interval training that will increase your aerobic capacity and accelerate fat burning while building strength, muscular endurance and power. With every workout, you'll work more muscle tissue and keep calories burning for hours longer than with traditional training.

TRX TRX is the suspension training system that utilizes full core strength to engage every muscle of the body. Our TRX classes vary to suit different levels and different needs. Use your core and TRX to elevate you to new fitness goals. Each class is 45 minutes. Times and days must be selected at time of registration. Due to small class, NO refunds will be given for TRX.

Pilates Pilates is a fitness routine that will increase strength and flexibility. You can expect improved posture, balance, and core strength.

PIYO STRENGTH PiYo Strength is an up tempo, non-spiritual approach to mind/body exercise. This unique format combines Pilates, Yoga, Strength Training, Core Conditioning, Flexibility, and Dynamic Balance.

Sh’Bam is the perfect way to shape up and let out your inner star - even if you’re dance challenged. Set to a soundtrack of great jams, Sh’Bam is the ultimate fun and sociable way to exercise. Each 45-minute class is vibrant, unique and varied so all you have to worry about is cutting loose and dancing off the calories. All ages welcome!

Y Boot Camp This program won't just help you strengthen, tone, and increase your cardio fitness - it'll make you feel fabulous in your skin. Be prepared to sweat and have fun!! Free to members, but advanced registration required.

Y Cycle A revolutionary stationary bike class which is set to music and simulates a real bike ride. This non-competitive, cardiovascular workout is designed for all fitness levels.

Yoga Join us for flowing, controlled yoga moves; stringing poses together with deep breathing to experience a sense of well being and reawakening of the mind and body.

Zumba A fusion of latin inspired music and dance will find you dancing day, night, and calories away.

Zumba Toning When it comes to body sculpting, Zumba¿½ Toning raises the bar (or rather, the toning stick). Learn how to use lightweight, maraca-like Toning Sticks to enhance rhythm and tone all the target zones, including arms, abs and thighs.

The MIXX Come mixx up your fitness training each week. Each class is a mix of cardio and strength training; however, you will never know what the instructor has planned. Formats will include Drums Alive, Zumba Gold, Gentle Yoga, and much more!

Forever Fit A low impact class including cardiovascular and resistance training. A great class for seniors as well as those new to exercise.

WATER FITNESSAqua HIIT NEW! Aqua Hit- High Intensity Interval Training - Are you looking to add variety to your workout, hit a plateau or want to burn more calories? Then this intensity interval water workout is for you. This high intensity interval workout utilizes intervals of hard work and rest for a total body workout. Not recommended for beginners.

Aqua Kickboxing Aqua Kickboxing: Challenge yourself to a high-level cardiovascular, strength training and muscle endurance class. Not recommended for those with joint problems.

Aqua Zumba The Aqua Zumba program is the "pool party" workout for all ages. A workout that integrates the Zumba formula and philosophy onto traditional aqua fitness disciplines.

Aquafit Aqua Fitness: Our most popular class is Aqua Fitness. This class combines stretching and toning with a moderate cardiovascular workout and some strength training. Good for all ages and fitness levels.

Deep H2O Training Deep H2O Training: We use floatation devices to aid in a low-impact, total body workout that includes aerobics and muscle strengthening. Must be able to swim 25 yards.

H2O Sculpt H2O Sculpt is a high-level cardiovascular, strength training and muscle endurance classes. Not recommended for those with joint problems.

Level 1: Beginner ADULT BEGINNER LEVEL I You’ve always wanted to learn how to swim. Now is the time to learn. This level focuses on the beginner swimmer. During this class, swimmers will be taught how to propel themselves in the water with little to no assistance on their front, back, and side.

Level 2: Intermediate ADULT BEGINNER LEVEL II Perfect for the advanced beginner swimmer. This level is for swimmers who easily move through the water, but do not have a defined form to their stroke or just want to improve their stroke. During this class swimmers will work on stroke form. They will learn breathing techniques and proper body positioning for the front crawl, elementary back stroke, back crawl, sidestroke and breaststroke.

100 Mile Club Challenge yourself to swimming 100 miles or more in a year. This program is free for members and great for conditioning. For more details call the Aquatic Department.

Private Lessons Single Private lessons start at age 3 and up. This package includes 1 lesson that is Thirty-minutes in length. Stop by the front desk for a private lesson request form. Limit two lessons per calendar year.

Semi-Private 6 Lesson Package Semi-Private lessons start at age 3 and up. This package includes 6 lessons that are Thirty-minutes in length. Participants must be at comparable levels.
