ADULT FITNESS TESTING

CLASS AGE DAY(S) TIME FEESBody Composition Testing 16+ Times Vary $15/$30Fitness Assessment 16+ Times Vary $50/$100Metabolic Test 18+ Times Vary $25/$50

Body Composition Body composition is the amount of fat vs. lean muscle tissue in the human body. These are commonly expressed as a percentage of a person's total weight. Body weight alone is not a clear indicator of good health, because it does not distinguish how many pounds are from fat and how many are from lean body mass. Contact the Fitness Center to set up an appointment for a body composition test using the skin-fold measurement method performed by a certified Personal Trainer.

Fitness Assessment Each assessment includes a health screening that consists of blood pressure and resting heart rate measurements. This screening is followed by testing for body composition or measurement, cardio respiratory endurance, flexibility and muscular strength and endurance. A report assessing your current fitness level and an individualized exercise prescription are provided. Contact the Fitness Center to schedule your appointment with certified Fitness Specialist.

Metabolic Testing Testing a personal's metabolic rate reveals how many calories your body burns at rest, giving you the information you need to plan a weight loss, gain or maintenance plan. Each person's metabolism is different based on genetics, eating habits and fitness level. Metabolic testing gives you specific data that will help you achieve your personal goals. Contact the Fitness Center to schedule your test.

THE Y. SO MUCH MORE™ At the Y we are more than a gym. We are a cause dedicated to building strong children, families and communities—inside and out. This includes making our programs available to all regardless of need—because at the Y, everyone belongs. You can help us in the cause. Change a life by making a gift to the YMCA. Because membership dues and program fees support our daily operations, your gift will go directly to serving children and families in need. The impact of your gift will be felt when:

• A kindergartner starts school ready to learn because he attended the Y’s early learning center.

• Kids have a safe, nurturing environment to go to after school and in the summer.

• A dad spends time with his child while coaching basketball.

• A child loses weight–and enjoys it–because at the Y, exercise is play.

MAKE A GIFT. CHANGE A LIFE. Make your gift today at donate.ymcachicago.org.

FAMILY PROGRAMS

DID YOU KNOW THE Y INVENTED BASKETBALL, RACQUETBALL AND VOLLEYBALL?Dr. James Naismith, a Canadian physical education instructor, invented the game of basketball in 1891 while working at the YMCA Training School in Springfield, Massachusetts.

In 1950, YMCA volunteer Joe Sobek invented racquetball in Greenwich, Connecticut, as an alternative to squash and handball. Like previous YMCA inventors, Sobek was not paid for his invention; he bestowed it as a gift to all who play the game today.

In the 1890s, YMCA instructor William Morgan thought basketball was too strenuous for businessmen, so he blended elements of basketball, tennis and handball, and called his invention “mintonette.” In 1896, at the International YMCA Training School in Springfield, Massachusetts, the name “volley ball” was first used to describe the back-and-forth manner in which the ball flew over the net. Today, more than 46 million Americans play volleyball.

Make a date with your friends and family at the Y. Whether you are looking to spend quality time together as a family, looking for fun activities for siblings to bond, and make new friends or looking for special time together as a couple, the Y has you covered.
