Aquatics Policy:

TEST * MARk * PROTECTAt the SOUTH SHORE YMCA, we are committed to

keeping all patrons as safe as possible while swimming.

As such we have implemented a swim safety program

in the Aquatics Department called Test  *  Mark  *Protect. All children under 14 will be given a swim Test.Based on the swim test, or their age, individuals will be

given a colored band to wear in the pool that will Markwhat areas of the pool they may use. Using this system

will help us further Protect the children who use our pool.

Swim test results will be stored and members will also receive a colored

membership tag to bring with them to the pool to receive their bracelet. This

will allow a convenient way for us to know each child’s color and swim ability

each time they arrive at our pool or the Y. Swim Tests will not need to happen

every time you come to swim unless the child wants to try for a higher level

or their swim ability has changed drastically.

For questions or more detailed information regarding this program,

please contact the SOUTH SHORE YMCA Aquatics Department:

Preschoolers Guided Discoveryof the Water

We are very excited in our new state of the art facility to roll out changes within

our Aquatics Department. Our preschool swim program will no longer be using

bubbles. Our new shallow water pool is a perfect learning environment for these

youngsters to make progress.

The preschooler’s ability to learn and adjust to the water will be enhanced by

being able to explore the water where they can comfortably stand, guided by

their instructor. Our shallow water pool ranges from 32” to 48” at its deepest.

If your child has not participated in swim lessons anywhere during the fall it

would be most beneficial to have them evaluated. This way we would know

where they would comfortably fit in our new program. Our program will now

closely match our sister branch, the EMILSON YMCA, who has not used bub-

bles in quite some time.

For more detailed descriptions of each level please visit our website at

Since 1982, the Germantown Neighborhood Center (GNC) hasbeen providing critical support services, needed resources, programs and workshops to the youth and families of theGermantown and neighboring communities of Quincy. Locatedwithin one of Quincy’s largest public housing developments, the GNC serves a community of mostly low-income, single-parent households and works with support and guidance fromthe SOUTH SHORE YMCA to identify and develop strategies toaddress community needs.

Our youth programs give kids a safe environment where they cangrow and learn positive values that they will carry with them fora lifetime. Our after school youth programs run from Septemberto June and include: Sports Blast, Fun Size Fitness, ReadingRound Up, Dancing Divas and Girl Scouts to name a few. Schoolvacation camps run during February, April and during the sum-mer months for grades K–12. Women’s programs are designedto get women out of the house and build relationships with otherwomen who are in the same situation. Childcare and dinner areoften provided. Women are encouraged to bring the whole fam-ily while mom engages in skill-building workshops with otherwomen. Our Family Lifelong Learning programs encourage liter-acy and educational achievement through our GED programs, orTeen Success programs. Our food pantry serves residents allover the City of Quincy with food assistance.

We continually work to raise more money, add more programs, anddo all that we can to help. Our programs and services work towardgiving community members the skills, confidence, and resources totake action and improve their lives.
