As term three draws to close it is worth reflecting on what has been another event filled term for our school community. In the past 10 weeks we have managed to squeeze in the following activities in addition to the ‘normal’ curriculum: In-term swimming lessons, Scitech school visit, Massed Choir, Tales of Times Past visit, Australian Maths competition, Transition program at Greenwood College for Year 6/7, class excursions, Father’s Day extravaganzas, athletics carnivals, school photos, chess club visit and the Safety House incursion. It has certainly been another active and enjoyable term for everyone. Thank you to all parents and community members who have once again supported and assisted our school in so many different ways – much appreciated. I would also like to thank all staff for their continuing hard work and wish them all a well-deserved break. ASSEMBLY Our final class assembly was hosted this morning by our very young, but very capable, Pre-Primary students from PP2. What a wonderfully positive assembly it was with students spreading their message about the importance of being a “bucket filler.” All students (and staff) were dressed in brightly coloured attire, sang, danced, told stories and spoke beautifully on the microphone. It was a fabulous way to finish our assemblies for this term and was certainly a timely reminder for us all to be the most positive person that we can be. Congratulations to all Pre-Primary 2 students and staff. INTER-SCHOOL ATHLETICS CARNIVAL Students representing Dalmain Primary School at the Interschool Athletics Carnival at Halidon are to be congratulated on their efforts and enthusiasm on Monday and yesterday. Everyone gave their best effort and although we were not able to win a shield, it certainly wasn’t through a lack of trying. Congratulations to West Greenwood Primary School on winning the outright shield and to Halidon Primary School for hosting the event. The day was perfect for such an event and I am sure enjoyed by competitors and spectators alike.

Wonderful Water
Water can do wonderful things. It can wear away
soil and rocks. Water can even control Earth’s
weather. There is nothing else on Earth that can
do all the things water can do. Water can be a
liquid, solid or gas. The water you drink is a liquid,
ice is a solid and the steam that comes out of a
kettle is a gas. All those things are still water.
When water is 0°C it is ice. When water is 100°C it
is a gas.
- Natasha
Watery Earth
Water covers more than 70% of the Earth’s
surface. Unfortunately, people can’t drink salty
water or you can get sick. Some of Earth’s fresh
water is also underground.
- Cara
Why we need to be Waterwise
If we didn’t have any water on our planet we would
die of thirst. We need water to survive. Everything
needs water to survive. If we waste water
everything will become extinct as we know it. So be
water wise and turn off water taps, lower your
shower time and don’t waste water.
- Emily
Dirty Water
Dirty water is a huge problem in some countries
because people can’t drink it, especially in poor
countries. If we don’t save our precious water we
will not be able to survive. Nothing could!
- Ashton
Waterwise TA 8
TA 8 has been very busy learning about the importance of being waterwise. We have been discussing and reading informational reports about the nature of water, the water cycle, the dangers of consuming dirty, contaminated water and also ideas for using less water and ideas for causing less water pollution. We also have had the pleasure of a visit from Mr Cowey who spoke at length about ways he has used to reduce garden water usage by adapting technology so that his plants are only watered when the ground is dry. To take this theme further, TA 8 has discussed international programmes in Africa and Brazil where aid
agencies are setting up programmes to help people survive droughts by lending them livestock, by teaching
them how to dig and maintain better wells so that in times of no rain people do not perish from a lack of
water. The agencies are also teaching people how to avoid contaminating their water supplies.
The students’ informational texts are on display in TA 8 if you would like to view them.

Next year Dalmain Primary
School will be
25 years old!
A fete is scheduled to be held on
Saturday 2 May 2015.
The fete will be organised and run by our school community
through the P&C.
Our school has not held a fete in many years, so I am sure
that we will all want to make this one a huge success.
In order for this to happen it will require the support of a
band of willing helpers.
Community members who are interested in being involved can contact
Katie Jones, Jane McIntyre
or the school office.
School Phone App
It is with great excitement that I announce that Dalmain Primary School is trialling the use of a phone app to further enhance communication between home and school.
The phone app is designed and organised through the
company Tiqbiz. The app has a number of features which I am sure that parents will find very useful and informative.
The app is free to download and there are no charges involved for parents during this one month trial or indeed in
the future should this become an integral part of our communication processes.
You will find below instructions about how to install this app on to your smart phone, tablet or computer.
Enjoy the new app and please contact the school with any
feedback that you have regarding this innovation.
