From the Principal’s Desk PARENT INFORMATION MEETING (Tuesday 16 February) Next Tuesday evening teachers will be holding informaon sessions for parents in their classrooms. These sessions are designed to provide parents with an insight into how classes will be run and informaon on areas such as homework and communicaon. An informaon flyer was forwarded home to parents last week and is also available on our school website. ASSEMBLY Our first assembly will be held next Thursday 18 February in the undercover area. At this assembly our school leaders will be announced following the compleon of the elecon process. This is always a much ancipated occasion and will be followed by morning tea in the library for all Year 6 parents and students. STUDENTS RIDING BIKES I would like to clarify our school policy regarding students riding a bike to school. The recommended age group for students to start riding independently without an adult is from Year 4 (10 years old). The reason for this being children younger than Year 4 may not have developed the road safety awareness necessary to cross roads. This includes making judgements about the speed of cars, having the necessary peripheral vision and awareness required to negoate traffic. This is of course a guideline only but based on the recommendaons of Kids Safe WA. P&C AGM (Tuesday 1 March) I look forward to meeng with parents at our P&C AGM on TUESDAY 1 MARCH commencing at 7.00pm in the staffroom. All parents are most welcome to join us. Dalmain Primary School Needs You for 2016!

The Dalmain Support a Reader programme has been a great success at our school since 1998, when it was first introduced as a means of giving children extra help and assistance with their reading. This great success is due to the kindness and generosity of our parent community who have generously given of their time on a volunteer basis. Without parental help the programme would not be a success. However, in order for this worthwhile programme to continue as successfully as it has over the last seventeen years, we need more reliable helpers who can give one hour a week of their time to hear several students read on a one to one basis. As you can see from the roster advertised in our newsletter, we have several days that still require tutors.

As this is a teaching programme, training is available in order to provide volunteers with the necessary skills. The strategies you will learn are very useful when hearing your own children read at home. Training requires only forty minutes of your time. We invite all parents, grandparents and friends to volunteer for this unique programme.
