Principal’s News

How fantastic it was last week to welcome 272 students back for the start of the 2020 school year. Despite the heat and humidity the students have already made a positive start to the year and are involving themselves in school life. Congratulations to the students who were successful in being elected to become senior and junior house leaders for 2020. It was great to see not only these students, but also those that nominated, be prepared to stand up and lead their peers throughout the year. This year the school will be conducting a program for our Aboriginal students based on developing greater understanding of culture and leadership. Last week, myself and the staff involved had our first meeting and this week we will have our first sessions. We look forward to being able to share the successes of our students over the coming months. For the past few years our school has been running a breakfast program available to all students paid for by the school

and several generous donations from the community. This year the school has been informed we are eligible for the

inclusion in a government funded program to provide breakfast for all students at no cost to the school. The program

provides a selection of bread products, cereals, long-life milk and some fruit which must be consumed at school and not

distributed through the canteen.

Canowindra High School

Swimming Carnival 2020 Canowindra High School’s annual swimming carnival will be held on Wednesday 12th February at the Canowindra Pool. Students are to go straight to the pool as roll

marking will be held at 9.00am. Please note that for students, attendance is compulsory, as it is a “normal school day”. Bus travellers will need to exit the buses at the Primary School and walk to the pool. Non season ticket holders will be required to pay $1.00 to enter.

Students can bring their own lunch and are encouraged to bring plenty of water to drink throughout the day. For those wishing to purchase food, there will be a number of items, including hot food, ice creams, drinks and sweets, available from the pools kiosk which will be open throughout the carnival. Students are encouraged to wear house colours (Hall-blue; Gilbert-green; Gardiner-red) however, NO inappropriate dress (including singlet tops) will be accepted. During all stages of the carnival it is strongly recommended that students have a hat, shirt and sunscreen on. Shade tents will be placed up and around the grass area and students may bring their own if concerned about the sun exposure. At the end of the carnival, students who catch a bus will be dismissed at 3.00pm so they can board their bus from the primary school. It is important that all other students stay until 3.24pm as this is a school day and all the normal school rules and conditions apply. We are all looking forward to a great day!
