The P & C continued to support the School through 2017 in improving the resources and opportunities for students at school. We have worked closely with the Principal and teachers in identifying the best ways to add value to the school community. Fete 2017 The Fete which was held in October 2017 was a great success, and raised over $30,000. Not only did the day raise significant money, it was also a fantastic event for the whole school community. The efforts of the Fete Committee, school staff and all the volunteers was greatly appreciated. Canteen The canteen, and the promotion of healthy eating, has continued, with a varying menu giving children plenty of options. Thank you to the canteen committee, the canteen helpers and Mary Alford and Sam Burns, our canteen supervisors. The menu changes regularly and is audited by Hunter New England Health. The canteen has provided a good income source for the P & C, while fulfilling the important need to provide good food for the students. Classroom Resources The P&C has continued to provide a set amount at the start of each school year for each stage. The teachers in that stage have been able to identify the most desired resources and priorities, which means the money is spent effectively. Grounds The Grounds Committee has again provided an important role in keeping the grounds in good order. We are grateful to Kristin Klimpsch who handed over responsibility for the grounds committee to Carolyn Hodge, who has embraced the role with great energy. Uniforms Thank you to Carly Wiggins who has been operating the school uniform shop each Tuesday. The second hand uniforms sold there continue to provide good income for the school. Friends of Hamilton South Thank you also to Fiona Frangos who has continued to run the Friends of Hamilton South, with the regular Mothers and Fathers Day stalls and the Easter raffles all raising significant funds for the P & C. I would like to thank all of the active members of the school community for their ongoing support of the P & C activities, which significantly enhance the learning environment for all our children. In particular I thank the hard working members of the executive and those who run the sub-committees, your commitment is integral to the success of the P & C.

What a Fete to Remember. The name very much sums up the reality of the day! It was such a

wonderful example of amazing teamwork!! The fete's raised $30000 which is just incredible. So

many people were involved in organising and running the fete. I would like to say a huge ‘Thank

You’ to Malini Stephen, our amazing fete coordinator, who along with the incredible fete committee,

the stall coordinators and helpers, the members of the P&C, the money counters and collectors, the

staff, students, ex-students, members of the wider community, our buskers, and all the people who

have helped in some way for the fete. Another massive ‘Thank You’ goes to all the people who have

donated items to class stalls, fete stalls, given prizes, bought raffle tickets, sold raffle tickets,

cooked, made craft, created amazing pots of plants, designed flyers and provided so many things.

External Validation The External Validation meeting went extremely well. The panel agreed with all our evidence which was linked to the School Excellence Framework. They recommended that the evidence presented showed we were achieving at a higher level in six areas. We adjusted this for five of the areas. We were commended on the processes used to compile the evidence and the quality of the evidence that was provided. The results from the External Validation were presented to the staff and P&C. NAPLAN HSPS Year 3 and Year 5 results showed that our school was significantly above the National average in all areas (Reading, Writing, Spelling, Grammar & Punctuation, and Numeracy).

This is an excellent result. Friends Day Friends Days was another amazingly successful day with lots and lots of visitors. Thinking While Moving activities were on show in classrooms and around the school. A huge ‘thank you’ goes to the canteen committee and helpers, the P&C members and parents who helped with the catering before and on the day. The food was delicious!! Trivia Night Thank you to the Trivia Night committee for all their hard work behind the scenes and on the night. The Trivia Night was a great fundraiser for the school. Anzac Day Hamilton South Public School has been participating in the Hamilton RSL Anzac Dawn Service since 2013. It was at this time that local schools were invited and encouraged to become more involved in the Hamilton service. To see the number of people in attendance at the service, along with the number of school students marching and being part of the service, was wonderful. Coming into the park the smell of the smoking ceremony set the sense of place, and along with the sounds of the birds, the solemnity of the occasion continued throughout the service. Students and their families support this very important occasion through their attendance. Star Struck – Shine On This is a significant commitment from the school and school community to be part of Star Struck. It is also a very memorable one for the students involved. We had a drama group (Years 4-6), Choir (Year 5) and Dance (Year 6). The four outstanding performances showcased the skills and talents of primary and secondary public school students from across the Hunter. Canteen The canteen, and the promotion of healthy eating, has gone from strength to strength. A new Healthy Canteen Strategy was implemented during 2017 for compliance in 2018. School Grounds Thank you to all the parents who have been involved in improving the school grounds. A successful working bees ware held during the year and lots of work happened outside these times. There have been many enhancements to the grounds at the school which have come as a result from the hard work of many people. These have included: installing the stepping log sandpit wall; installing riverbed stones and creating pathway to COLA with mulch; preparing canteen raised veggie beds for planting; scraping up the rock/gravel outside 2B’s classroom so lawn can be planted; weeding the tires near OOSH; putting mulch in garden beds; and lots more. Thank you to Kristen Klimpsch and Caroline Hodge who have been the driving force behind the enhancements to our school grounds and environment. Classroom Resources The P&C provided funds to enhance learning environments through providing resources to each Stage group to purchase resources. These included a number of iPads across the school. The P&C

Thank You I would like to sincerely thank the P&C for their invaluable help and assistance throughout the year. The outstanding support of parents and the school community has ensured improved outcomes for our students. Canteen Committee Report 2017 ANNUAL REPORT HAMILTON SOUTH CANTEEN COMMITTEE 2017 flew by in a flurry of toasted sandwiches which continue as our biggest seller. We also kept the hordes fed at the Welcome Breakfast, Winter Solstice, Athletics Carnival and Friends Day. All of these events were a success financially and socially. Finding enough volunteers to keep our canteen running as it continues to grow remains the biggest challenge. We have now added two short shifts of one hour for parents with toddlers or tight work schedules and these at 9-10am and 2-3pm have helped ease some of the work load. Online orders go from strength to strength and we will continue to encourage students/parents to order in this way. Menus are still changed each term with the return of some items if popular. Special days with “special” items are still welcomed by students. Our thanks as always go to May Alford, Sam Burns and the volunteers that make our canteen the great place it is. 2017, with 34 in training band and 38 in concert band. This year was the first year we had student band leaders and both leaders assisted greatly in the organisation and running of the band rehearsals and the annual fund raising disco. Fundraising Our second ‘band run’ school disco was a great success, bringing in a profit of $2,818.66. The band community, were again, outstanding in their support of the disco fund-raiser! We had ample food supplies donated and at least 30 helpers on the night, cooking and serving food and drinks and packing up at the end. It was a great event due to the incredible generosity of the Hamilton South families who donated time and goods for the night. Nadine Bell was, again, tireless in her enthusiasm and support for the committee and we are also grateful to Sue Estens for this excellent fundraising opportunity and also for the additional funds ($2000) she has provided to assist us to buy new instruments for the band New instruments Our band instruments for hire are a valuable component of the band program, allowing access to good quality and well-maintained instruments to any student wishing to participate in the program. This year we hired out 23 instruments to band students and our pool of available instruments grows each year. The funds raised through the annual band disco and the donation by the school this year have allowed us to purchase the following instruments and items for the band;

• Clarinet

• Base clarinet

• Trombone

• Cymbal set

• Conductor’s stand

• Neck strap

Performances Nadine Bell has secured ample performance opportunities throughout the year, including:

• Friends day concert

• Community performance at Charlestown square

• Bandlink

• Bandfest

• Band Presentation Day

• School Presentation day

• Christmas winds at the Newcastle Conservatorium of music Behind the scenes Several Pizza Days were held throughout the year, as an encouragement and a thank you to the dedication of the band students. Thank you to Donna Beiboer who oversees these events. In her role as band secretary, Fiona Frangos has carefully administered the MYOB system for invoicing band students for band fees and instrument hire and this has improved the payment timeliness and completion. Thanks are due to Fiona for her diligence and the incredible amount of time she has devoted to this process. We are also very grateful to have the services of our dedicated band teacher, Nadine Bell, who has been behind the scenes in every aspect of running our band this year. Nadine, assisted by Malini Stephen, has adopted processes for managing the band music folders, which has drastically reduced the volunteer hours needed to produce the folders each year. We are also very grateful to the many parents who assisted with all band activities throughout the year.

Friends of Hamilton South Report Friends of Hamilton South Report for P & C AGM 2018

The Friends of Hamilton South had another busy and successful in year in 2017. We started off in February with organising the New Parents Lunch which was attended by 45 plus parents which is a very high turnout. The Easter raffle had a profit of $4769 which matched the previous record. This will be hard to match in future years. $3000-3500 is average. Easter Raffle is always a great fundraiser as almost everything is donated by families within the school. With well over 50 baskets as prizes, the Easter raffle is always well supported by the school community but this year was truly amazing. We also had a successful Mothers Day and Fathers Day stalls raising a total profit of $3500. We have continued sending the presents home for parents to wrap at home in boxes of 10 or so items and returned to school prior to the stalls being held and this has proved to be very successful, with a large number of parents and grandparents volunteering their time to assist in wrapping presents and then giving their time to help on the stalls. We also packed welcome packs which are handed out to new parents at the Orientation Day and assisted with the morning tea. Thank you to my team of helpers, who helped with the tiresome job of stamping thousands of raffle tickets, helping get organised for the Easter raffle, Mother and Fathers Day stalls throughout 2017, to all the helpers who have wrapped presents, assisted on stalls throughout the year and to the teachers for their ongoing support. A BIG thank you to our office staff who assist us in many ways, but in particular, with photo copying and compiling notices each week. Friends of Hamilton South have raised over $8000 profit in 2017, which will be used by the P&C to assist the many projects undertaken by both the students and staff of Hamilton South Public School. Rachel Jackson and Donna Parmeter have stepped up to learn the ropes of my role, as my youngest is off to High School next year. I will spend the remainder of 2018 helping with their transition. My successors will be able to introduce the class representative system in the future. I have enjoyed being able to put my skills to use in this role, being part of an amazing school community. Thanks to the P & C for the Volunteer nomination. The Volunteer Awards dinner was an enjoyable event. Fiona Frangos, Friends of Hamilton South.
